SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This spec
2、ification covers the requirements for aircrew eye protective visor assemblies which provide protection against multiple fixed laser wavelengths. The visors may be used by all fixed and rotary wing aircrew. 1.2 Classification. The type designators of the visor assemblies covered by this specification
3、 are as follows: EEU-8/P (HGU-68/P fi xed wing aircrew helmet assembly) EEU-12/P(HGU-lZP and HGU-67/P rotary wing helmet assembly) EEU-13/P(HGU-68/P(V) fixed wing helmet assembly) EEU-14/P(HGU-68/P fixed wing aircrew helmet assembly) EEU-15/P(HGU-87/P fixed wing aircrew helmet assembly) AIHS (HGU-56

In the event of a conflict between the text of this document and the references cited herein (except for related associated specifications, specification sheets, or MS standards), the text of this documen
12、t takes precedence. Nothing in the document, however, shall supersede applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Individual visor requirements. The individual visor requirements shall be as specified herein. 3.2 First article inspection. When s
13、pecified, (6.2) samples shall be subjected to first article inspection (6.4) in accordance with 4.3. 3.3 Materi al s. Materi al s shall conform to the appl icabl e procurement documents as specified herein. Materials which are not covered by these documents or are not specifically described herein,
14、shall be of the best quality, of the lightest practical weight and suitable for the purpose intended. It is encouraged that recycled material be used when practical as long as it meets the requirements of this specification. 3.3.1 Visor matefia. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), the polycarbonat

The design and dimensions of the
16、 visors shall be as specified herein. The visor shall have the same physical dimensions, fir and function as the visors identified in figures 1 through 7. The visor shall afford protection for aircrew against the specified wavelengths to the required densities (6.2) throughout the entire safety zone
17、 (see 4.5.4.2). The front and back surfaces of the visor shall have a clear coating which meets the abrasion resistance, adhesion and environmental requirements specified herein. The front and back surfaces of the visor shall have an anti-reflection coating. All cockpit displays, phosphors (P43) and
18、 lights shall be visible when the visor is worn. 3.4.1 Area of vision. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), the visor shall have three areas of vision which are identified as: critical area, non-critical area and the area outside of these areas of vision (no optical requirement). The center point f
19、or the left and right critical areas (area 1L of a visor and is intended to serve as a guide for purposes of determining matching areas of the left and right sides of the visor. The left and right in 4.5.3 shall match in prism, power and transmittance to the requirements of 3.7.1 and 3.7.2. b one in
20、 the center and one in each of the critical vision areas. The ballistics test shall be considered valid only if it meets any of the following: a. The impact velocity of the projectile is between 550 feet per second and 560 feet per second. b. The impact velocity of the projectile is less than 550 fe
21、et per second and the impacted visor fails to meet the requirements in 3.7.4.1. c. The impact velocity of the projectile is more than 560 feet per second and the impacted visor meets the requirements in 3.7.4.1. Before and after the surface abrasion procedure, the transmittance and haze shall be determined as specified in 4.5.4 and 4.5.4.4. The surface abrasion procedu
23、re shall be performed as specified in ASTM D1044 or by an equivalent method using the instrument illustrated in figure 15. The standardized eraser shall be held approximately normal to the surface and rubbed across the surface of the coated visor over the same path from one point to another for 20 c
24、omplete cycles with a force of 2.0 to 2.5 pounds continuously applied. Wherever possible, rubs of about 1 inch length are preferred. After the rubbing has been completed, the visor shall be thoroughly cleaned to remove dirt, film, fingermarks and grease marks using a mild detergent and distilled wat
