30、teels, such as Grades 1 or 2 per CEMS A-6, Part I. They are generally alloyed with micro additions of niobium (Nb) (columbium), vanadium (V), titanium (Ti), nitrogen (N), or combination thereof, in conjunction with controlled rolling temperatures. The lower carbon content improves weldability. They

31、are normally furnished to mechanical property requirements rather than to close chemical composition limits or ranges. These steels are not intended for quenching and tempering, but all types can be so treated for specific applications. A.1.1 The higher strength of these steels makes them suitable f

32、or applications where weight reduction is desired. Since the elastic modulus of low carbon structural and HSLA steels is the same, the amount of allowable elastic deflection must be considered when reducing section size to take advantage of increased strength. A.1.2 These steels are generally availa

TABLE I NAVISTAR Type Designation Characteristics 42X, 45X, and 50X These are semikilled, columbiu

38、m and/or vanadium treated steels. Type 50X is the most common HSLA type used by Navistar, and is generally readily available in various product types and sizes. The NDTT* ranges for these steels are similar to mild steels. 60X, 65X, and 70X These steels are similar to the above types, with higher st

39、rength obtained by increased amounts of strengthening elements such as carbon or manganese or by the addition of nitrogen up to about 0.015 percent. This increased strength involves reduced formability, decreased weldability, and higher NDTT*. 50A and 50R These types are intended for applications wh

40、ere critical requirements justify the extra cost. The properties of these steels are insured by minimum required Charpy V-Notch impact values (and/or NDTT*) and by the restriction of yield strength. Type 50A requires less stringent impact properties than Type 50R. These steels may be treated with al

41、uminum, columbium, vanadium, nitrogen, or other alloying elements. Stress relieving, normalizing, quenching and tempering, or other thermal treatment, as necessary, to achieve the required mechanical properties is permitted. The imposition of welding restrictions may be necessary to maintain the req

42、uired mechanical properties in the final product. Sources of these types may be restricted by the controlling design engineering department. 50F, 60F, 70F, and 80F These steels are fully killed and exhibit high strength combined with excellent ductility. They are characterized by their low carbon co

43、ntent, very fine ferritic grain size (ASTM 11 or finer) and controlled inclusions. 48、ses greater than 0.55 inch (13.0 mm) or for bends more severe than shown. When bending with axes perpendicular to the grain flow, slightly greater thicknesses may be cold bent. Hot bending performed at a temperature of approximately 1550F (840C) may result in some loss of strength when the columbium-vanadium treated types are heated to this temperature. Loss of strength may occur for Type 50R or 50A d
