12、nal i _ Foreword This NACE International standard practice presents guidelines for establishing requirements to ensure proper application and performance of plant-applied single -layer fusion-bonded epoxy (FBE) coatings to the external surfaces of carbon steel pipe. It is intended for use by corrosi

13、on control personnel concerned with mitigation of corrosion on buried and submerged piping used for transportation and storage of oil, gas, water, and similar products. This NACE standard was originally prepared in 1994 by NACE Task Group (TG) T-10D-10, a component of Unit Committee T-10D, “Protecti

14、ve Coating Systems. “ It was revised in 2002 and 2013 by NACE TG 031 (formerly TG T-10D-10), “Pipeline Coating Plant-Applied Single Layer Fusion-Bonded Epoxy: Review of NACE Standard RP0394,” administered by Specific Technology Group (STG) 03, “Protective Coatings and Linings Immersion/Buried.” It i

23、 epoxy (FBE) coatings to the external surfaces of pipe. 1.2 The function of such coatings is to prevent corrosion when used in conjunction with cathodic protection. 1.3 This standard describes methods for qualifying and controlling the quality of FBE pipe coatings, provides guidelines for proper app

24、lication, and identifies inspection and repair techniques to obtain the best applied FBE coating system. 1.4 Appendixes A through N describe the methods for testing various properties of coatings and all are mandatory for compliance with this standard. _ Section 2: Definitions Applicator: The organi

25、zation responsible to the purchaser for the coating application. Batch: The quantity of coating material produced during a continuous production run of not more than 8 hours. Coating: (1) A liquid, liquefiable, or mastic composition that, after application to a surface, is converted into a solid pro

26、tective, decorative, or functional adherent film; (2) (in a more general sense) a thin layer of solid material on a surface that provides improved protective, decorative, or functional properties. Coating Material: Epoxy powder. Cutback: The length of pipe left uncoated at each end for joining purpo

27、ses (e.g., welding). Holiday: A discontinuity in a protective coating that exposes unprotected surface to the environment. Inspector: The authorized agent of the purchaser. Purchaser: The owner company or the authorized agency that purchases the coated pipe. Supplier: The manufacturer or distributor

28、 of the coating material and its authorized technician. _ Section 3: Coating Materials 3.1 Supplier Information The suppliers must provide the following: (a) Directions for handling and storage of the coating materials; (b) Material safety data sheets (MSDS); (c) Certification of the determined phys

29、ical properties of batch (batch certificate) in accordance with Table 1 (see Paragraph 3.3); (d) Product quality certificate in accordance with Table 2 (see Paragraph 3.4); and (e) Technical data sheet (TDS) with basic physical properties including operating temperature limits of the product. 3.2 La

30、bels All boxes of epoxy powder supplied shall be labeled with the following information: (a) Epoxy powder manufacturers name; SP0394-2013 2 NACE International (b) Product description; (c) Product number; (d) Batch number; (e) Manufacturing location; (f) Shelf life/expiration date; (g) Manufacturing

31、date; and (h) Temperature requirement for storage and transportation. 3.3 Batch Certificates Each batch of powder shall be provided with a test certificate in accordance with Table 1. The test s

35、pecimens shall be either laboratory-prepared coupons in accordance with Paragraph 3.5, or coupons collected from pipe coated at the factory. A minimum of two test specimens are needed unless otherwise specified in each test requirement. 3.4.2 The product qualification tests must be repeated if the e

36、poxy powder formulation, composition, or manufacturing location changes. 41、based on the product TDS and recommendations by the coating manufacturers. 3.4.3 Laboratory specimens should be prepared in accordance with Paragraph 3.5. 3.5 Laboratory Specimens 3.5.1 Surface Preparation Test panels shall be hot-rolled carbon steel (UNS G10200,(1)AISI(2)1020, or approved equivalen

42、t) and have dimensions in accordance with the cited test method. The surface shall be abrasive blast cleaned in accordance with NACE No. 1/SSPC(3)-SP 51and NACE Standard RP02872using steel grit that shall be used during production to provide a surface profile of 50 to 100 m (2.0 to 4.0 mil), measure

43、d from peak to valley in accordance with these standards. 3.5.2 Coating Application 3.5.2.1 Coating application and curing shall be in accordance with the suppliers recommendations. (1)Unified Numbering System for Metals and Alloys (UNS). UNS numbers are listed in Metals however, the specified minim

44、um average shall be above 350 m (14 mil). NOTE: Greater FBE coating thickness can limit field bending, coating application in the plant, and in the field. 5.5.1 When FBE coating is used in systems in which the service temperature of the coated surfaces exceeds 65 C (150 F), thicker FBE minimums may

45、be used. Refer to the suppliers guidance for thickness recommendations for service temperatures above 65 C (150 F). 5.5.2 Other situations that may require a greater FBE minimum thickness are: (a) The pipe is to be concrete coated; (b) The pipe is placed through a drilled crossing; (c) Rocky or high

46、-impact backfill; or (d) Mechanical damage during construction. 5.5.3 The cutback limits shall be specified by the purchaser. _ Section 6: Production Inspection and Testing 6.1 Plant Access The inspector representing the purchaser shall have free access to all parts of the applicators plant concerne

47、d with the storage, application, testing, and handling of the FBE powder and coating of the purchasers pipe, while work on the contract of the purchaser is being performed. The inspection should be performed by a person qualified by experience and training in coating inspection methods. The applicator shall afford the inspector, without charge, inspection facilities to satisfy the inspector that the coating is being applied in accordance with the requirements of this standard.
