8、-capable Passive Optical Networks (G-PON): ONT management and control interface specification Summary Recommendation ITU-T G.984.4 provides the optical network termination (ONT) management and control interface (OMCI) specification for gigabit-capable passive optical network (G-PON) systems as defin
9、ed in Recommendations ITU-T G.984.2 and G.984.3. Firstly, it specifies the managed entities of a protocol-independent management information base (MIB) that models the exchange of information between the optical line termination (OLT) and the optical network termination (ONT). In addition, it covers
10、 the ONT management and control channel, protocol and detailed messages. This revised version incorporates the material from Amendment 1 (2005), Amendment 2 (2006), and Amendment 3 (2006). In addition to the purely editorial collection work, this revision endeavours to remove all references to the o
11、ptional ATM transport capabilities of G-PON, since all modern systems do not support it. ITU-T G.984.4 (02/2008) FOREWORD The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is the United Nations specialized agency in the field of telecommunications, information and communication technologies
13、 (ICTs). The ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) is a permanent organ of ITU. ITU-T is responsible for studying technical, operating and tariff questions and issuing Recommendations on them with a view to standardizing telecommunications on a worldwide basis. The World Telecommunica
14、tion Standardization Assembly (WTSA), which meets every four years, establishes the topics for study by the ITU-T study groups which, in turn, produce Recommendations on these topics. The approval of ITU-T Recommendations is covered by the procedure laid down in WTSA Resolution 1. In some areas of i
15、nformation technology which fall within ITU-Ts purview, the necessary standards are prepared on a collaborative basis with ISO and IEC. NOTE In this Recommendation, the expression “Administration“ is used for conciseness to indicate both a telecommunication administration and a recognized operating
16、agency. Compliance with this Recommendation is voluntary. However, the Recommendation may contain certain mandatory provisions (to ensure e.g. interoperability or applicability) and compliance with the Recommendation is achieved when all of these mandatory provisions are met. The words “shall“ or so
17、me other obligatory language such as “must“ and the negative equivalents are used to express requirements.
