9、ic in Recommendation ITU-T G.988, so that it can cover multiple access system technologies, one of which is G-PON. From January 2010, all new enhancements to the OMCI will be described in Recommendation ITU-T G.988, and so Recommendation ITU-T G.988 will be the latest and best specification. The poi

10、nt of this amendment is to direct the readers of Recommendation ITU-T G.984.4 to consult Recommendation ITU-T G.988 as their primary reference. That said, Recommendation ITU-T G.984.4 remains “in-force“ for those features that are not covered in Recommendation ITU-T G.988. History Edition Recommenda

13、, information and communication technologies (ICTs). The ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) is a permanent organ of ITU. ITU-T is responsible for studying technical, operating and tariff questions and issuing Recommendations on them with a view to standardizing telecommunications o

14、n a worldwide basis. The World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA), which meets every four years, establishes the topics for study by the ITU-T study groups which, in turn, produce Recommendations on these topics. The approval of ITU-T Recommendations is covered by the procedure laid d

15、own in WTSA Resolution 1. In some areas of information technology which fall within ITU-Ts purview, the necessary standards are prepared on a collaborative basis with ISO and IEC. NOTE In this Recommendation, the expression “Administration“ is used for conciseness to indicate both a telecommunicatio

16、n administration and a recognized operating agency. Compliance with this Recommendation is voluntary. However, the Recommendation may contain certain mandatory provisions (to ensure, e.g., interoperability or applicability) and compliance with the Recommendation is achieved when all of these mandato

17、ry provisions are met. The words “shall“ or some other obligatory language such as “must“ and the negative equivalents are used to express requirements. Recommendation ITU-T G.988, the generic OMCI specification, is intended to cover a variety of access systems, including G-PON. However, Recommendation ITU-T G.988 does not docu

26、ment all of the legacy features that were contained in Recommendation ITU-T G.984.4. Definitions and features contained in Recommendation ITU-T G.984.4 that do not appear in Recommendation ITU-T G.988 remain valid for legacy ITU-T G.984 applications.
