Parts covered by this specification shall meet all requirements defined herein for the appli- cable product and grade. CONTROL ITEM. Parts designated by the sy
12、mbol “0” are Control Items; affects compliance to Federal Regulations. 1. GRADES. Grades are designated by industry recognized numbers, where increasing numbers rep- resent increasing tensile strength, and by decimals of whole numbers representing variations at the same strength level. Table 1 shows
13、 required strength, chemistry, hardness, and grade identification marking on parts for each grade. Applications of grades to products are: Bolts and screws are limited to Grades 1, 2, 5, 5.2, 8, 8.1, 8.2 and 9. Grades 4 and 8.1 are limited to studs. Studs can also be specified in any other grade exc
14、ept 5.1. Grade 5.1 is limited to machine screws (sizes No. 4 through 318 inch diameter), and to sems (sizes No. 6 through 318 inch diameter) which are heat treated following assembly of the washer on the screw. Where Grade 5.1 is specified for machine screws or sems, either Grade 5 or Grade 5.2 is a
15、n accept- able alternate. 71 16 inch diameter sems are limited to Grade 5 or Grade 5.2. When Grade 5 is used for sems, screws and washers shall be heat treated before assembly. 23、l be present in the steel in sufficient quantity to assure that the specified strength proper- ties are met after oil quenching and tempering. Caution is advised when considering the use of class grade 9 bolts and screws. Capability of the bolt manufacturer, as well as the anticipated in-use environ
24、ment, should be considered, High strength products such as class grade 9, require rigid control of heat treating operations and careful monitoring of as-quenched hardness, surface discontinuities, depth of partial decarburization, and freedom from carburization. some environments may cause stress co
