APPLICATIONThis specification was released originally for materials used for thefabrication of the windshield washer, coolant overflow reservoirs andfuel filler housing.3

REQUIREMENTS3.1 RAW MATERIAL3.1.1 Density, min 0.950 g/cm3(ASTM D 792)3.1.2 Melt Flow Rate, max 0.6 g/10minutes(ASTM D 1238)3.1.3 Melting Point, min 121 C(FLTM BO 021-02)3.2 MOLDED PART3.2.1 CONDITIONING AND TEST CONDITIONSAll test values indicated herein are based on materialconditioned in a cont

4、rolled atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 Cand 50 +/- 5 % relative humidity for not less than 24 hprior to testing and tested under the same conditionsunless otherwise specified.3.2.2 AppearanceThe color, pattern, and finish shall match the approvedDesign Center master sample, or shall be as specified onthe eng

6、TM D 2240)3.2.5 Low Temperature Shock ResistanceThere shall be no evidence of cracking or any permanentdeformation of the assembly.Test Method : Condition part specimen in the coldchamber for 5 h at - 29 +/- 1 C. Quickly remove thetest specimen from the chamber, (test observer shallwear gloves) plac

7、e the sample on its side, and then dropa 50 mm steel ball weighing 535 g from a height of 1.22m onto the specimen. The ball shall be directed asnearly as possible to the central portion of the testsurface.3.2.6 Heat ResistanceThere shall be no visible distortion or color change.Test Method: The part

8、 specimen shall be subjected to 3h at 102 +/- 3 C in a mechanical convection oven. Thetest specimen shall be shielded by suitable means fromthe direct high temperature air velocity.3.2.7 Solvent ResistanceThere shall be no visible deleterious effects such ascracking, crazing, color changes or other

9、surfaceimperfections.Test Method: Immerse a 25 mm portion of a sample 25 x75 mm, for 2 h at 23 +/- 2 C in the solvents listedbelow:. Petroleum naphtha M-14J147. Trichlorethylene ESB-M5B99. 11、. 3 h at 102 +/- 3 C. 5 h at 23 +/- 2 C. 16 h at - 29 +/- 1 CObservations shall be made at the completion of eachcycle.3.2.9 Environmental Exposure (Washer reservoirs only)Test Method: The container assembly shall be filledwith 20 % commercial windshield washer solution,covered.3.2.10 Environmental

12、Exposure (Coolant overflow reservoirsonly)The container assembly shall be filled with a 45 %solution of ESE-M97B18-C coolant concentrate in tapwater and covered.3.2.11 Environmental Exposure (Fuel filler housing only)There shall be no evidence of cracking, crazing,distortion, or color change.Test Me

13、thod : Cut five 25 x 75 mm strips from theassembly, and subject them to 5 complete exposure cyclesas follows:. 4 h at - 29 +/- 1 C. 4 h at 102 +/- 3 C. 16 h immersion in ASTM Reference Fuel BObservations shall be made at the completion of eachtest cycle.3.2.12 Impact Strength, Tensile, min(ASTM D 18

Washer and Coolant Reservoirs : At the completion ofthe environmental exposure cycles specified in para3.2.8, cut a minimum of 5 tensile S impact testspecimens from the body of the assembly and determinethe impact strengt

15、h. Fuel Filler Housing : Cut a minimum of 5 tensile Simpact test specimens from the body of the assembly andsubject them to 5 complete exposure cycles as specifiedin para 3.2.11. 16、3948-b Page 4 of 43.3 QUALITY SYSTEM REQUIREMENTSMaterial suppliers and part producers must conform to QualitySystem Requirements, QS-9000. Material specification requirementsare to be used for initial qualification of materials. A ControlPlan for ongoing production verification is required. This pl

17、anmust be reviewed and approved by the relevant Ford Materialsactivity and/or Ford Supplier Technical Assistance (STA) prior toproduction parts submission. Appropriate statistical tools mustbe used to analyze process/product data and assure consistentprocessing of the materials.Part producers using

18、this material in their products, must useFord approved materials and must conform to a process control planwhich has been approved by STA and/or the relevant MaterialsActivity.3.4 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBILITYAll materials supplied to this specification must be equivalent inall characteristics to the mat

19、erial upon which approval wasoriginally granted.Prior to making any change in the properties, composition,construction, color, processing or labeling of the materialoriginally approved under this specification, whether or not suchchanges affect the materials ability to meet the specificationrequirem

20、ents, the Supplier shall notify Purchasing, Toxicology andthe affected Materials Engineering activity of the proposedchanges and obtain the written approval of the MaterialsEngineering activity. Test data, test samples and a new codeidentification are to be submitted with the request.Substance restr

21、ictions imposed by law, regulations or Ford, applyto the materials addressed by this document. The restrictions aredefined in Engineering Materials Specification WSS-M99P9999-A1.4. APPROVAL OF MATERIALSMaterials defined by this specification must have prior approval by theresponsible Materials Engin

22、eering activity. Suppliers desiring approvalof their materials shall first obtain an expression of interest from theaffected Purchasing, Design and Materials Engineering activity. Uponrequest, the Supplier shall submit to the affected Materials Engineeringactivity a completed copy of their laborator

23、y test reports, signed by aqualified and authorized representative of the test facility,demonstrating full compliance with all the requirements of thisspecification (test results, not nominal values), the materialdesignation and code number, and test specimens for Ford evaluation. Fords engineering approval of a material will be based on itsperformance to this specification and on an assessment of suitability forintended processes and/or applications. Upon approval, the material willbe added to the Engineering Material Approved Source List.
