21、 and processesWhen selecting coating materials and processes, consideration shall be given to the different working temperaturesand operating environments that may be found.For example in any temperature range a coating may be required to resist: oxidation; other chemical attacks or; a combination o

22、f oxidation and other chemical attacks.Typical coating materials will include the following: nickel/chromium alloys; iron/chromium/aluminium alloys; metal/chromium/aluminium/yttrium alloys.NOTE The metal can be nickel, cobalt, iron or alloys of these.Other inert wear resistant materials such as chro

23、mium carbide, may be blended with these alloys to provide acombination of properties.When selecting coating materials, the following reactants and their effects either individually or when combinedshall be considered: oxygen; sulphur; chlorine; vanadium; potassium; sodium.Taking each of these in tur

24、n, the following points shall be considered:a) depending upon the presence or absence of oxygen, the corrosion characteristic can change significantly.Purely oxidising conditions indicate the use of aluminium alone;b) where high sulphur contents (mass fraction 0,5 %) are present, the use of iron bas

25、ed alloys is recommendedrather than nickel based unless their chromium content is a mass fraction 30 %;c) where high chlorine contents (mass fraction 0,5 %) are present, the use of nickel based alloys isrecommended rather than iron based unless their chromium content is a mass fraction 30 %;d) molte

26、n salts such as sodium or potassium vanadate require the addition of chromium to iron based materials.The chromium content shall be a mass fraction 25 % and the aluminium content a mass fraction 0,5 %;e) generally coating thicknesses of 0,2 mm shall be considered for aluminium and 0,4 mm for other m

27、aterials.With regard to the choice of process, the oxidation resistance of chromium bearing alloys is inversely related to theamount of chromium lost to oxide formed during the spraying process and the level of porosity. Thereforeprocesses that create lower oxide and porosity levels will tend to per

28、form better than others. Nevertheless thisshould be balanced against the fitness for purpose of the coating and economic factors.EN ISO 17834:2003 (E)54 Application of coatingThe coating shall be applied to the clean and dry surface, prepared in accordance with EN 13507.The sprayed coating shall be

29、applied as soon as possible after surface preparation and before visible deteriorationof the surface has occurred. If in comparison with a freshly prepared surface of material of similar quality visibledeterioration has occurred, the surface preparation shall be repeated. In no case shall delay betw

30、een surfacepreparation and coating application exceed 4 h unless special precautions, agreed between manufacturer andpurchaser, are taken to ensure a suitably controlled storage atmosphere.NOTE An initial thin coating of the sprayed metal can be applied to preserve the prepared surface; the requirem

31、ents ofclause 6 would then apply.The surface of the sprayed coating shall be of uniform texture free from lumps, coarse areas and loosely adherentparticles.Contamination or corrosion of the sprayed coating shall be avoided at all stages during the application of thecoating and the coating shall be m

36、l be as given in Table 1 for the appropriate class of coating. When determinedby the method described in prEN ISO 2063, the minimum local coating thickness shall be not less than 75 % of thespecified nominal coating thickness, and the maximum local coating thickness shall not exceed the specifiednom

37、inal coating thickness by more than 0,1 mm.Coating thickness measurements shall be taken after the application of each coating metal and before anysubsequent treatment is applied.5.2 Service temperature, environment and subsequent treatmentRequirements on service temperature, environment and subsequ

38、ent treatment are given in Table 1.6 Re-treatment of defective areasAny area found to be defective immediately prior to subsequent treatment shall be blasted clean of all sprayedmetal prior to respraying, except that where the rejection has been solely due to too thin a coating, sprayed metalof the

39、same quality may be added, provided that the surface has been kept dry and is free from visiblecontamination.EN ISO 17834:2003 (E)7Annex A(informative)Design recommendations for objects to be metal sprayedComponents and structures to be metal sprayed should be designed from the outset with thermal s

40、praying clearlyin mind. Failure to do so is almost certain to increase the difficulties and cost of application and also to reduce theoverall service life.Three major guiding principles should be observed:a) design should ensure that all surfaces are fully accessible for surface preparation and perm

41、it complete anduniform application of the sprayed coatings;b) structure should be designed so that corrosion and oxidation have the greatest difficulty in establishing anyfocal point from which they can spread. This requirement demands cleanness of design and the elimination ofall features that migh
