25、 layers ofelectric cableshas been developed overmanyyears of practical experience.The operation of the equipment using the verification method described in this standard hasproved tobe satisfactory. This method employs an artificial fault simulatorand itsperformance has been shown to be comparable t

26、o that using operational efficacy testsinvolving the detection of artificiallyprepared defects (i.e. faultsinthe insulation/sheathing material)in lengths of cable. 4 EN 62230:2007BS EN 62230:2007+A1:2014EN 62230:2007+A1:2014 - 4 -ELECTRIC CABLES SPARK-TEST METHOD1 Scope The spark-test method specifi

27、ed in this standard is intended for the detection ofdefects in theinsulation or sheathing layers of electric cables. For single core cables withnoouter metalliclayer, the general process is accepted as beingequivalent to subjecting samples of thosecables to a voltage test in water.This standard spec

28、ifies theoperational requirements for the spark-test equipment, as well asthe principal characteristics, functional parameters and calibration procedures for each type oftest equipment. 2 Types of voltage waveform For the purposes of this standard, the typesof voltage waveform used for spark-testing

29、 aredivided into the following groups:a.c. an alternating current (a.c.) voltage of approximately sine-wave form, attheindustrial frequency of 40 Hz to 62 Hz;d.c. adirect current (d.c.)voltage;h.f. an alternating current (a.c.) voltage of approximately sine-wave form, atfrequencies between 500Hz and

30、 1 MHz;pulsed a voltage waveform comprising a fast rise time and highly damped wave-tail, asdefined in 4.2.NOTE Provided the manufacturer can demonstrate equivalent effectiveness, h.f. voltages at frequencies below500 Hz may be used.3 Procedure The insulated conductor or sheathed cable shall be pass

31、ed through an electrode energized atthe test voltage. The method detailedin this standard provides for the application of a.c., d.c.,h.f. and pulsed voltages.The requirements for voltagewaveform, frequencyand testvoltage are given in4.2 and Clause 5. The maximum speedatwhich the cable shall pass thr

41、alternative to a voltage test in water, the test shall be restricted to layer thicknesses not greater than 2,0 mm unless otherwise specified in the cable standard Only the ac or dc voltage waveforms shall be usedAnnexA provides recommended voltages for each voltage waveform, to be used in theabsence

42、 of any alternative voltages in the relevant cable standard. 4 Equipment4.1 Safety To limit the effect of electric shock to personnel, for all types of voltage source, the equipmentshall be constructed insuch a way that the short-circuit current is limited to less than 10 mAr.m.s. orequivalent.This

43、requirement is additional to, ormay besuperseded by, any national regulation that prevails atthe time. NOTE Guidance on the limiting of shock currents can be found in IEC 60479-1 and IEC 60479-2.Further aspects of operational safety are given in Annex C. 4.2 High voltage sourceThe high-voltage elect

44、rode shallbe supplied in one of the following forms, as defined inClause 2: a.c., d.c., h.f. or pulsed.Fora d.c. test, connection to the test electrode shall be by means of a low capacitance unscreened lead.For d.c.and pulsed voltage testing, the test electrode may be either positive or negative pol

45、arity, the other pole being earthed. The requirements for pulsedwaveforms are presented in Figures 1, 2 and 3. Forpulsed waveforms, the rise time of the wave front shall reach 90 % of the specified peakvalue in less than 75 s see Figure 1. Fluctuationsof the actual peak value, due tovariations of in

46、put power intothe generator, shall not exceed 2 % of the specified peak value see Figure2. Thepeak value shall not showmore than 5 % reduction in theevent of anincrease ofcapacitive load of50 pF, during the operation,froman initial load of 25 pFbetweenelectrode and instrument ground. The time thatea

47、ch pulse remains at avoltage greater than80%of the specified peak voltage shall be between 20 s and 100 s see Figure 3. Thepulse repetition frequency shall begreater than 170 per secondand less than 500 per second. This corresponds to pulse separations between 2 000 s and 5 880 s.Visible or audible
