13、ee 61, was submitted to the Unique Acceptance Procedure and was approved by CENELEC as EN 60335-2-78 on 2003-05-01. This European Standard replaces EN 60335-2-78:1997. The following dates are applicable: - latest date by which the EN has to be implemented at national level by publication of an ident

14、ical national standard or by endorsement (dop) 2004-05-01 - date on which national standards conflicting with the EN have to be withdrawn (dow) 2006-05-01 This part 2 has to be used in conjunction with EN 60335-1, Household and similar electrical appliances Safety Part 1: General requirements. For products having mechanical moving parts,

25、 a risk assessment in accordance with the Machinery Directive, 98/37/EC, has shown that the risks are mainly of electrical origin and consequently this directive is not applicable. However, the relevant essential safety requirements of the Machinery Directive are covered by this standard together wi

32、y13 BS EN 60335-2-78:2003+A1:2008 Page 5INTRODUCTION It has been assumed in the drafting of this International Standard that the execution of its provisions is entrusted to appropriately qualified and experienced persons. This standard recognizes the internationally accepted level of protection agai

33、nst hazards such as electrical, mechanical, thermal, fire and radiation of appliances when operated as in normal use taking into account the manufacturers instructions. It also covers abnormal situations that can be expected in practice and takes into account the way in which electromagnetic phenome

34、na can affect the safe operation of appliances. This standard takes into account the requirements of IEC 60364 as far as possible so that there is compatibility with the wiring rules when the appliance is connected to the supply mains. However, national wiring rules may differ. If an appliance withi

35、n the scope of this standard also incorporates functions that are covered far as is reasonable. If applicable, the influence of one function on the other is taken into account. An appliance that complies with the text of this standard will not necessarily be considered to comply with the safety prin

36、ciples of the standard if, when examined and tested, it is found to have other features that impair the level of safety covered by these requirements. An appliance employing materials or having forms of construction differing from those detailed in the requirements of this standard may be examined a

37、nd tested according to the intent of the requirements and, if found to be substantially equivalent, may be considered to comply with the standard. in Part 1, Part 1 applies. NOTE 1 not necessary to specify particular requirements for the appliance in question over and above the general requirements.

38、 This standard is a product family standard dealing with the safety of appliances and takes precedence over horizontal and generic standards covering the same subject. NOTE 2 Horizontal and generic standards covering a hazard are not applicable since they have been taken into consideration when deve

39、loping the general and particular requirements for the IEC 60335 series of standards. For example, in the case of temperature requirements for surfaces on many appliances, generic standards, such as BS EN 60335-2-78:2003+A1:2008 Page 6 When a Part 2 standard does not include additional requirements

41、r Part 2 standards. HOUSEHOLD AND SIMILAR ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES SAFETY Part 2-78: Particular requirements for outdoor barbecues 1 Scope This clause of Part 1 is replaced by the following. This International Standard deals with the safety of outdoor barbecues for household and similar use, their rate

42、d voltage being not more than 250 V. Appliances not intended for normal household use but that nevertheless may be a source of danger to the public, such as appliances intended to be used by laymen in shops, in light industry and on farms, are within the scope of this standard. NOTE 101 Examples of

43、such appliances are those used by restaurants and hotels. As far as is practicable, this standard deals with the common hazards presented by appliances that are encountered by all persons in and around the home. However, in general, it does not take into account NOTE 102 Attention is drawn to the fa

44、ct that for appliances intended to be used on board ships, additional requirements may be necessary; in many countries, additional requirements are specified by the national health authorities, the national authorities responsible for the protection of labour and similar authorities. NOTE 103 This s

45、tandard does not apply to barbecues for indoor use (IEC 60335-2-9); appliances intended to burn charcoal or similar combustible fuels; appliances intended exclusively for industrial purposes; appliances intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a corr

46、osive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas). 2 Normative references This clause of Part 1 is applicable except as follows.
