2、ll federal agencies. 1. SCOPE. This CID covers: (1) headless magnetic pipe plugs having recessed hex heads, up to one inch size, conforming to Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Standard J531, and (2) headless magnetic pipe plugs having recessed square heads, for sizes over one inch, conforming t

3、o American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Standard B16.14. These magnetic pipe plugs are intended for use in automotive engine oil systems, transmissions, gear boxes, and circulating oil systems, and other systems of circulating fluids in which ferrous metal particles and/or chips 2. CLASSIF

4、ICATION a. Type b. Type nay be present. Magnetic plugs shall be of the following types: - Aluminum Alloy. I - Malleable Iron, Cast Iron, or Cold Finished Steel. 3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS. 3.1 Desian and Fabrication. Casting, forging, or machining may be used to fabricate the magnetic pipe plugs. Th

5、e plug design requirements for dimensions and tolerances, pipe thread size, and magnetic lift shall be in accordance with Figure 1 and Table I. The aluminum alloy plugs shall be anodized, in accordance with the contract or order. The ferrous plugs shall have a plain, uncoated finish, or other finish

6、 in accordance with the contract or order. 3.2 Material. The material for aluminum alloy plugs shall be in accordance with QQ-A-225/1, QQ-A- 225/3, QQ-A-225/6, QQ-A-225/8 or QQ-A-367. The material for malleable iron plugs shall be in accordance with ASTM-A-47. The material for cast iron plugs shall

7、be in accordance with ASTM A48. The material for cold finish steel plugs shall be in accordance with ASTM A 148. The magnet shall be a permanent magnet in accordance with Magnetic Materials Producers Association (MMPA)

9、Standard 0100. The magnet lift rating is defined as the weight of soft steel having one smooth side, that the magnet will retain after contact has been established, and for at least 48 hours after magnetization. The magnet shall be attached to the plug in such a manner as to require physical displac

10、ement of metal before the magnet can be removed. The maximum diameter of the magnet shall be at least 0.100 inch smaller than the pitch diameter of the plug thread. 3.4 Threads. The threads shall be NPTF for plugs up to and including the three (3) inch size and NPT for the four (4) inch size. 3.5 To

11、xic Chemicals/Hazardous Substances. The use of toxic chemicals, hazardous substances, or ozone depleting chemicals (ODC) will be avoided, when feasible. 4. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS. 4.1 Recvcled/Recovered Materials. The offerer/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximum extent

12、 practical, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). 5. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS. 5.1 Product Conformance. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this commercial item description, conform to the producers own drawings, specificatio

13、ns, standards, and quality assurance practices, and be the same product offered for sale in the commercial market. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance. 5.2 Market AcceDtance. The producer shall meet the following market acceptance criteria. 5.2.1 The producer produ

14、cing the item must have been producing similar commercial grade items meeting the requirements of this CID for at least two (2) years. 5.2.2 The producer must have sold one hundred (100) similar commercial units that meet or exceed the requirements of this CID over the past two (2) years. 6. PACKAGI

15、NG. 6.1 Preservation, Packina, and Markinq. Preservation, packing, and marking shall be specified in the contract or order. 7. NOTES. 7.1 Part Identification Number (PIN). The PIN shall be used for Government purposes to buy commercial products described by this CID. The following part identificatio
