Abstract. This commercial item description covers one type of

2、welders mitten with a one-finger leather gauntlet. The mittens are intended for use by Department of Defense personnel. Classification. for either the left or right hand as specified (see Notes). The mitten shall be procured in one size only, Salient characteristics Description. The mitten shall be

3、of a one-finger slip-on style, consisting of a two-piece leather front (gauntlet and palm), a one-piece leather back, two-piece thumb, welted leather inseams, fabric cuff lining, and a knitted insulated lining on the inside back of mitten extending from the wrist to the tip of the fingers. The mitte

4、n shall also have a leather fourchette between the index finger and the three-finger section. The thumb shall have a leather reinforcement piece attached over the face of the thumb (see Figure i). Leather welts shall be placed in between the following seams: fourchette/one-piece back seam, back thum

5、b/face thumb seam, gauntlet/palm seams, and the front/back seam. be 8-10. The mitten shall be neatly laid-off on a heated form. 8、lit cattlehide, conforming to Type IV, class 2 or Type VI11 of KK-L-2004, suitable for use in gloves. Elongation requirements shall not apply. Both sides of the leather shall be smooth and free of loose flesh. Middle splits, head splits, belly splits and shoulder splits shall not be used. The color

9、shall be the color resulting from chrome tanning. The leather thickness testing shall be as specified in the contract or order. The thickness of the leather shall be not less than 3.5 ounces nor more than 5 ounces, except for the fourchette and welt strips of the mitten where a minimum of 3 ounces i

10、s permitted. i Thread. The thread for seaming and stitching the mitten shall be cotton, 105 Tex (in accordance with ASTM D204), 4 ply yarn (visual certification) with a minimum breaking strength of 5.0 pounds (in accordance with ASTM D2256), conforming to A-A-52094. Gauntlet lininq. The gauntlet lin

11、ing shall consist of an unbleached cotton duck fabric, or a gauntlet lining fabric composed of two thicknesses of unbleached cotton fabric securely laminated together. The weight of the hard textured unbleached cotton duck fabric shall be between 17.6 ounces per square yard (minimum) 19.4 ounces per

12、 square (maximum) (in accordance with ASTM D3776 option C I/), utilizing plied warp and filling yarns (visual certification). The laminated fabric shall be composed of a cotton twill fabric weighing not less than 3.7 ounces per square yard and a plain weave cotton backing fabric weighing not less th

13、an 1.7 ounces per square yard (in accordance with D3776 option C). The finished fabric (laminated) shall contain not less than 14 ounces per square yard of natural rubber, synthetic rubber, or synthetic resin (in accordance with ASTM D3776 option C l/), and weigh not less than 19.4 ounces per square

14、 yard (in accordance with ASTM D3776 option C l/). I/ All test results on the weight of the basic untreated cloth and finished cloth shall be averaged separately to determine the respective lot average weights. These values shall then be utilized in calculating the percent increase in the finished c

15、loth weight. Results shall be calculated to the nearest 0.1 percent. Hand liner. The inside back of the mitten shall have a knitted fleece fabric liner. The knitted fabric shall have an unbleached cotton ground with a napped wool pile face, shall be light gray in color, and shall weigh not less than

16、 6.0 ounces per square yard (in accordance with ASTM D3776 option C). Label/markinq. Each mitten shall be marked with a combination identification and size label conforming to type III or IV, class 4, of DDD-L-20, except that the size is not applicable. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practicable. Quality assurance Certification. The contracto

25、r shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and that the product conforms to the producerIs own drawings, specifications, standards and quality assurance practices. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to the

26、first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract. Reliance on contractor quality assurance systems shall not relieve the contractor of the responsibility of ensuring that all products or supplies submitted to the Government for acceptance comply wit

27、h all requirements of the contract. Certificate of compliance. Unless otherwise specified, a certificate of compliance shall be submitted and will be acceptable for the stated requirements. Where certificates of compliance are submitted, the Government reserves the right to check test such items to

28、determine the validity of the certification. Visual examination. Each mitten shall be examined for the defects listed below. Defects. Any hole, cut, tear, spot or stain (outside); thread ends not removed; any open seam; label/marking omitted, incorrect, illegible, incomplete, or misplaced; measureme

29、nts of mitten not as specified; gauntlet lining not type specified; hand liner not type specified; any thumb, first (index) finger or remaining finger areas distorted or twisted, affecting comfort of wearer; any welt omitted; any welt protruding more than 1/8 inch from finished seam; 3 or more needl

30、e holes or pinholes; needle chews; stitches per inch not as specified; any mitten not neatly laid-off, any operation omitted or not performed as specified; misplaced; leather: any brittle or bony area, thin or weak spot, open vein, wrinkles, grub or tick marks, loose spongy or flanky area; any mend
