1、I INCH-POUND 1 A-A-55106A March 03,1998 SUPERSEDING December 15,1992 A-A-55106 COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION WHISTLE, PLASTIC The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description as a replacement for MIL-W-1053. 1. SCOPE. This document covers a plastic whistle

2、 with a cork ball and lanyard. The plastic whistle is intended for use by military personnel performing police, guard, drill instruction, and other duties that require the use of a whistle. 2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS. The Whistle shall be made of high impact plastic with a ring opening for a lanyard

3、 attachment. The whistle shall be approximately -930 inches wide by 2.500 inches long by 1.250 inches high. The color shall be black or as specified in the contract or order. The Whistle shall have a smooth, high luster gloss finish, a cork ball and must emit an audible or tone when blown as intende

4、d. See Figures 1 and 2. 2.1. Materials 2.1.1. Plastic. The whistle body shall be made of high impact plastic and shall be tested in accordance with ASTM D 256 standard requirement of 6.5 +/- IZOD. 2.1.2. Cork ball. Cork for the ball shall be a quality natural cork or a clean soft grade uniformly gra

5、nulated cork composition. 2.1.3. Lanyard. The lanyard for the whistle shall be made from cotton/nylon/polyester tubular braid. The length of the braid shall be 37(+ 1/2) inches (1 8 inches hang finished with whistle). The lanyard shall be black in color and have a colorfastness with a scale of “4.0”

6、, tested in accordance to AATCC 61, Test 3A-1989 “Colorfastness to laundering” and AATCC 8-1989 “Colorfastness to crocking”. The lanyard shall be resistant to fraying. The slide keeper shall be flexible, black in color OC as specified, 1/2 inches in length or commercial acceptable length and compatible with the lanyard. 2.2. Marking. Each whistle body shall be permanently and distinctly marked with th

9、e letters “U.S.“, the name of manufacturer or brand name and the year of manufacture. The size of the letters shall be approximately 3/32 inch high. 2.3. Labelaq. The Labemag shall be as specified in the contract or order. 3. REGULATORY REOUIREMENTS. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recov

10、ered materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1. Product Conformance. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this comercial item description, conform to the

11、 producers own standards and quality assurance practices, and be the same product reserves the right to require proof of such conformance. 4.2. Visual examination. The whistles shall be examined for the defects listed below. DEFECTS: Any required component or design characteristic missing or not as

12、specified herein; any aspects of design, construction, assembly, function or finish not in accordance with good commercial practice; color not as specified; free of flashing, burrs, scratches, dents, cracks, cuts marking missing, incorrect, or illegible; measurement of item not as specified; failure

13、 to perform, function, and/or fulfill intended purpose; bar code omitted or not readable by scanner; human-readable interpretation (HRI) omitted or illegible; bar code not visible on packaged item; bar code causes damage to the item; any item not packaged in accordance with the contract or purchase

14、order, any other defect that will adversely affect function, performance, appearance or cause injury to the user. 4.3. Acceptance criteria. Acceptance criteria shall be as specified in the contract or purchase order. 5. PRESERVATION. PACKING, AND MARKING. The preservation, packing, and marking shall
