1、b a A-A-55099A = 9999974 0373434 164 I INCH-POUND I A-A-55 099A A-A-55099 December 16,1992 COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION ROD AND CLAMP, INSECT BAR The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description as a replacement for MIL-R-2341 for all Federal agencies. 1.

2、 SCOPE. This commercial item description covers a rod and clamp assembly used in supporting insect bars over certain types of military beds and cots. 2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS. The rod (upright, crossbar, ring) and clamp (body, clip, carriage bolt/wing nut) assembly shall be in accordance with Figu

3、res 1,2, and 3 to be able to interfacc x.kk .:xisting military cotskds. The clamp body and clip shall be manufactured from comiiiercial qualit! c+on s!cc.l shrct or strip. The upright (1/2 inch in diameter) and crossbar (3/8 inch in diameter) shall be manufactured from standard quality carbon steel

4、bar. The carriage bolt (2 inches in length, 0.3125-18 UNC-2A) and the wing nut shall be made of steel. 2.1 Materials 2.1.1 Steel bar. The carbon steel bar shall conform to grades 1010 through 1020 of ASTM A- 108 or 1008 through 1020 or M1008 through M1020 of ASTM A-575. 2.1.2 Steel, sheet or striD.

5、The composition of the steel sheet shall conform to ASTM A-366. The composition of the steel strip shall conform to ASTM A-109. 2. i .3 Primer. The primer shall be a quick-drying, corrosion-inhibiting, high solids alloyed primer for pretreated ferrous metals. The primer shall be lead and chromate fr

6、ee and contain no more than 420 grams per liter of volatile organic compounds (VOC), as applicable. 2.1.4 Enamel. The enamel shall be an air-drying, semi-gloss enamel for use on primed exterior metal. The enamel shall be lead and chromate-free and shall meet the air pollution requirements for solven

7、t emission. The enamel color shall be No. 24084 in accordance with FED-STD-595. As an alternate to the primer and enamel, the crossbar and upright may be coated with a commercial epoxy coating. 2.2 Finish 2.2.1 Clamus. The clamp assembly shall be thoroughly cleaned and electro-zi

9、nc plated and chromated in accordance with type II, service condition-3 of ASTM B-633. 2.2.2 Rods. Ali rod surfaces shall be prepared for painting by any suitable commercial method. The prepared rod surfaces shall be given one coat of primer and thoroughly dried prior to application of the enamel. T

10、he primed surfaces of the insect bar rod shall be coated with enamel and baked. 2.3 Marking. The letters “U.S.“ and the manufacturers identification shall be indented prior to finishing on each clamp assembly, crossbar, and upright. 2.4 Instruction sheet. An instruction sheet illustrating the method

11、s of mounting the insect bar clamps on various types of beds shall be packed with each box of clamps. See Figure 4. 3. REGULATORY REOUIREMEhTS. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recot ered materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance with pai agraph 23.403 of the Federal Acqu

12、isition Regulation (FAR). 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Product conformance. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this commercial item description, conform to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and be the same prod

13、uct offered for sale in the commercial market. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance. 4.2 Visual examination. Each rod and clamp assembly shall be examined for the defects listed below. 4.2.1 Defects. Enameled or epoxy coating not finished, wrong color, area of no fi

14、lm, or not smooth, uniform, or adherent; surfaces not plated, not uniformly plated, area of no plating, or dirt or foreign matter imbedded; any inoperative functioning component; any ring missing or not as specified; any component missing; component not in proper alignment, broken, fractured, or spl

15、it; any sharp edge, burr, or sliver; any comers on clamp not rounded as indicated; hole not the proper size; any end of bar not chamfered as required; any sharp comers not broken or rounded where required; marking missing, incorrect, or illegible; dimensions of item not as specified; any items not p

16、ackaged in accordance with the contract or purchase order. 4.3 Acceptance criteria. Acceptance criteria shall be as specified in the contract or purchase order. 5.
