32、ng and snowboarding helmets1 Scope1.1 This Standard applies to helmets intended to provide head injury risk reduction for recreational alpine skiers and snowboarders. These helmets can also be worn for other non-motorized recreational snow sport activities. This Standard defines the areas of the hea

33、d that are to be protected for impact injuries. It covers the basic performance requirements for shock absorption, helmet stability, and retention system strength as well as marking and labelling requirements.1.2 Visors and detachable accessories are not included in this Standard.1.3 Although a helm

34、et that meets the requirements of this Standard will help reduce the risk of some types of injuries to the head, protection is limited. Users are responsible for participating in a sport within their abilities and taking into account snow and other environmental conditions, which can vary widely. Co

35、mpliance with sport safety rules and applicable responsibility codes can help reduce the risk of personal injury.1.4 In CSA Standards, “shall” is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; “should” is used to express a r

41、he point where the central vertical axis meets the top of the headform.Drop height the vertical distance from the lowest point (impact point) of the elevated helmet to the impact surface on a drop test apparatus.Fastening system the devices used to connect the components of a helmet.Frankfort horizo

42、ntal plane a plane used in craniometry that is determined from the highest point on the upper margin of the opening of each external auditory canal and the low point on the lower margin of the left orbit and that is used to orient a human skull or head usually so that the plane is horizontal.Frontal

43、 plane the vertical plane that is perpendicular to the median and reference planes and passes through the crown (see Figure 1).Headform a model of the human head that is constructed from rigid materials and on which protective equipment is mounted for performance testing.Helmet a device worn on the

44、head that is intended to reduce the risk of head injury to alpine skiers and snowboarders. Note: Helmets can include a) a shock-attenuating system;b) a retention system; andc) manufacturers attachments.Helmet model a category of helmets that have the same essential characteristics. Note: Essential c

45、haracteristics include materials, dimensions, construction, retention systems, and protective padding.Helmet positioning index (HPI) the vertical distance measured at the median plane, from the front edge of the helmet to the basic plane, when the helmet is placed on the appropriate headform.Median
