3、ong its member countries on all matters relating to the art and science of lighting. Its membership consists of the National Committees in 40 countries and one geographical area and of 12 individual members. The objectives of the CIE are : 1. To provide an international forum for the discussion of a

4、ll matters relating to the science, technology and art in the fields of light and lighting and for the interchange of information in these fields between countries. 2. To develop basic standards and procedures of metrology in the fields of light and lighting. 3. To provide guidance in the applicatio

5、n of principles and procedures in the development of international and national standards in the fields of light and lighting. 4. To prepare and publish standards, reports and other publications concerned with all matters relating to the science, technology and art in the fields of light and lightin

To maintain liaison and technical interaction with other intemational organisations concerned with matters related to the science, technology, standardisation and art in the fields of light and lighting. The work of the CIE is camed on by seven Divisions each with about 20 Technical Committees

7、. This work covers subjects ranging from fundamental matters to all types of lighting applications. The standards and technical reports developed by these international Divisions of the CIE are accepted throughout the world. A plenary session is held evety four years at which the work of the Divisio

8、ns and Technical Committees is reviewed, reported and plans are made for the future. The CIE is recognised as the authority on all aspects of light and lighting. 19、 auf dem Gebiet der Wissenschaft, Technik und Kunst der Lichttechnik betreffen. 5. Liaison und technische Zusammenarbeit mit anderen internationalen Organisationen zu unterhalten, die mit Fragen der Wissenschaft, Technik, Normung und Kunst auf dem Gebiet der Lichttechnik zu tun haben. Die Arbeit der

20、 CIE wird in 7 Divisionen, jede mit etwa 20 Technischen Komitees, geleistet. Diese Arbeit betrifft Gebiete mit grundlegendem Inhalt bis zu allen Arten der Lichtanwendung. 36、rders of magnitude between 250 nm and 400 nrn. A CIE etythema action spectrum was proposed in 1987 but no ewhemal quantity and radiometric equivalence was agreed till up to now. The present report proposes the term standard erythema dose (acronym: SED) and its numerical value: 1 SED is equivalent to

37、 an erythemal effective radiant exposure of 1 O0 J.m-2. The Technical Report provides the background of this proposal, the definitions are summarised in an accompanying standard. Introduction The problem of dosimetry in skin photobiology lies in the fact that the ability of ultraviolet (UV) radiation to elicit erythema in human skin depends strongly on wavelength, encompassing a range of four orders of magnitude be

44、tween 250 nm to 400 nm. Thus a statement that a subject received an exposure dose of 1 Jcm-z (IO4 J.m-) of UV radiation conveys nothing about the consequences of that exposure in terms of erythema. If the radiation source was a UVA fluorescent lamp, no erythemal response would be seen apart from in

45、people exhibiting severe, abnormal pathological photosensitivity. The same dose delivered from an unfiltered mercury arc lamp or fluorescent sun-lamp would result in marked violaceous erythema in most white skinned individuals. Consequently, photobiologists have long recognised the need to express t

46、he exposure as an erythemally-weighted quantity. 2. Historical Background The problem is not new. In 1942 the Council on Physical Therapy of the American Medical Association responded to earlier discussions and proposed that 10 FWcm-2 of homogeneous radiation having a wavelength of 296,7 nm be calle

47、d an Erythemal Unit (U). The Council also proposed that, by using values from the table of relative erythemal factors published by the Commission Internationale de IEclairage (CIE) in 193!j2, the erythemally-effective irradiance from any ultraviolet source of known spectral emission could be deduced

48、 and expressed in Erythemal Units. Other units related to the erythemal effectiveness of ultraviolet radiation which were introduced around the same time included the E-vifon and the Finsen . The E-viton was a unit of erythemal flux and was defined as such an amount of radiant flux as will give the

49、same erythemal effect as 10 pW of radiant power at 296,7 nm. The name erytheme was also proposed for this quantity. The Finsen was the recommended practical unit of erythemal flux density and was equal to 1 E-vitoncm-2, or 1 EU. The significance of the reference wavelength of 296,7 nm is that it is the wavelength of one of the emissions from a mercury vapour lamp, and not some accurately det
