8、.A list of organizations represented on LBI/1/1 can be obtained on request to its secretary.The UK committee advises that prior to purchasing a fume cupboard, a risk assessment should be performed to assess the risks associated with the substances that are to be manipulated. This would ensure that t

9、he fume cupboard is suitable for its intended purpose and that current exposure limits for toxic substances are not exceeded. It is suggested, therefore, that users may need to draw up a specification appropriate to their particular re-quirements, within the overall permissible limits of this draft

10、for development and the information on installation included in the National Annex. For users with little experience of purchasing fume cupboards, it may be helpful for trade associations, employers bodies or other organizations associated with a particular activity to give guidance on a suitable sp

11、ecification. An example would be Building Bulletin 88 from the Architects b) protection against splashes; c) cleanliness of the fume cupboard and cleaning of baffles; d) integrity of mechanical assembly, corrosion; e) pressure relief, if supplied;f) air flow and VAV system, if appropriate; g) indica

12、tor function/sensor response; h) leakages; i) hygiene;k) services;l) illumination; m) noise; n) electrical isolation; o) fire alarm devices, if appropriate.Further aspects may be necessary to address all maintenance needs. Routine test methods for most items of this checklist are given in EN 14175-4

13、:2004, Clause 6 and the routine test report should comply with EN 14175-4:2004, 9.2 or 9.4. Additional routine test methods for VAV fume cupboards are given in EN 14175-6:2006, Clause 6.In addition, the surroundings of the fume cupboards should be examined in respect of furniture or large equipment

14、installed after the installation of the fume cupboard which do not comply with the requirementsgiven in Clause 4. 16、boards supersede the BS 7258 series of standards and these are now withdrawn. However, to ensure completeness of the requirements in the British implementation of these European standards, the safeguards contained in the BS 7258 series (i.e. recommendations for the exchange of information, installat

17、ion, selection, use and maintenance) are retained. This informative national annex reproduces clauses 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 3.2and3.3 of BS 7258-2:1994, plus clauses 4.2 and 5 of BS 7258-3:1994.NA.2 Exchange of informationNOTE Clause NA.2 reproduces clauses 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 3.2 and 3.3 of BS 7258-2

18、:1994.NA.2.1 GeneralIt is strongly recommended that, for laboratory fume cupboards, the informationgiven inclauses NA.2.2to NA.2.4 of this national annex should be exchanged by the purchaser and the vendor/installer.NA.2.2 Information to be obtained from thepurchaser by the vendor/installerNOTE For

19、the purposes of this British Standard, it is assumed in this clause that the vendor is the same party as the installer. Ifthis is not the case both parties should obtain the information listed in items a) to g) but it is necessary only for the installer to obtainthe information listed in items h) to

20、 n).The following information should be obtainedfrom the purchaserbythe vendor/installer:a) the material of construction for any part of the fume cupboard that willbe affected by fumes emanating from the processes for which the fume cupboard will be used;b)any specific requirements such as minimum f

21、low rate;c) the minimum dimensions of the work surface;d) the normal sash working height, the maintenance sash height, and the width of the opening in theplane of the sash;e) the services to be fitted;f) the maximum external dimensions of the fume cupboard, and its dismantled components if appropria

22、te, andthe dimensions available for access into the building and internal access to where the fume cupboardisto be installed;g) whether the fume cupboard is to be used for manipulation of highly flammable liquids or other particularly hazardous substances;h) the following details of the siting of th

23、e fume cupboard:1) general details of the building inwhich the fume cupboard is to be installed, the location ofthe laboratory and the intended siting of the fume cupboard(s) within the laboratory;2) the locations of doors, windows, other fume cupboards, other laboratory furniture, ventilation grill

24、es, diffusers, or other air movingequipment;3) the absence of any features listed in item 2);i)general details of the intended method ofsupplyinglaboratory make-up air andof the room ventilation existing or to be provided;j) the environment requirements of the laboratory including:1) requirements fo

25、r the room in which the fumecupboard is to be installed including maximum sound-pressure levels;2) requirements, e.g. noise levels, for other rooms in the building;3) requirements under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 1 for emissionexterior to the building;k) the accommodation spaces, routes a

26、vailable and any specific design requirements of the fume extract system, including the range of working temperatures and the fittings to beprovided, such as flow control devices, alarms and indicators, condensate collectors, and duct washing facilities;l)the locations anddetails ofanyexisting mecha

27、nical, electrical, plumbing and drainageservices to be utilizedin connection withthe complete fume cupboard installation;DD CEN/TS 14175-5:2006 BSI 200711m) the following details of the fume cupboard:1) the required air extract volume flow rates, corresponding face velocity(ies) and pressure drops a

28、cross the fume cupboard(s);2) whether a facility to vary the set extract volume flow rate is required and, if so, the range that is required;3) whether the fume cupboard extract system is to be for continuous or intermittentuse;n) the commissioning tests to be undertaken by the installer. NA.2.3 Fur

29、ther exchange of information before installationNOTE For the purposes of this BritishStandard, it is assumed in this clause that the vendor is the same party as the installer. Ifthis is the case, the information listed should be supplied to the purchaser by the vendor/installer. If this is not the c

30、ase, the vendorshould supply the information listed to the purchaser, and the installer should obtain the information listed from the purchaser (who will have received it from the vendor).The following information should beexchanged before the fume cupboard is installed (see note):a) dimensioned dra

31、wings of the fume cupboard (including maximum sash opening for accessand normal maximum working sash opening corresponding to the sash positions at the maintenance sash height andthe normal maximum sash heightrespectively);b) an identification of all materials of construction;c) fume cupboard type a

32、ndserial number;d)all the informationreported on successful completion of the type test procedure;e) operating and maintenance instructions for all the equipment provided, including the pressure losscharacteristics of the fume cupboard;f) any specific limitations on use.NA.2.4 Information to be supp

33、lied to the purchaser uponinstallationThe following information should besupplied to the purchaser uponinstallation of the fume cupboard:a) drawings showing the completefinal installation provided;b) an identification of the materials of construction of the extract system;c) the results of the commi

34、ssioning tests undertaken by the installer, and any proposed amendments to the purchasers requirements;d) operating andmaintenance instructions for the extract system and for any laboratorymake-upair systems provided by the installer.NA.2.5 Fume extract systemsNA.2.5.1 GeneralNA.2.5.1.1 The primary

35、function of the fume extract system is to safely contain and convey potentially dangerous or obnoxious fumes from the fume cupboard to an outside discharge point from which they can be adequately dispersed at an acceptably low concentration.NA.2.5.1.2 The extract system comprises a connection or con

36、nections to each fume cupboard, the ductwork, a fan or fansand a discharge flueor multi-flue stack. It may, as appropriate, also include equipment for regulating and indicating the extract rate, preventing reverse flow, preventing spread of fire and smoke, fume filtration, fume scrubbing, heat recov

37、ery, condensate collection, washdownand drainage.A satisfactory installation can beachieved onlyif all the obligations of these interrelated aspects are met.NA.2.5.1.3 The extract system (together withthe arrangements for laboratory make-up air) shouldbeso designed as to minimize the sensitivity of

38、the fume cupboard to the effects of outdoor wind and other sources of air disturbance. The discharge flue should be sited with due regard to the flow pattern of air around the building and should be sufficiently highto minimize the risk of fumes being drawn into buildings through open windows or air

39、 intake grilles.DD CEN/TS 14175-5:200612 BSI 2007NA.2.5.1.4 When in use, the extract system within the building should be at negativepressure. Fans should bemounted at roof level with their outlets connected tothe discharge flues andtheir inlets connected to the ductwork. If a fan and its associated

40、 equipment cannot be accommodatedon the roof, itshould be installed at ground level, oron an easily accessible platform andthe connections arranged suchthat, in use, a negative pressure is still maintainedin all ductwork within the building. If ductwork is unavoidably under positivepressure it is es

41、sential that it is so arranged that if aleak does occur it cannotcreate a hazard. NA.2.5.1.5The design of the ductwork (and its resulting resistance to the passage of air) and the fan shouldbe such as to satisfy the maximum air flow requirement at operating temperatures for all fume cupboards served

42、 by the system. Fan capacities should exceed the operating requirements by at least 10%.NOTE Where highly toxic materials are handled, automatic changeover to a standby fan may be desirable.NA.2.5.1.6Extract systems should incorporate an air flow control device for each fume cupboard served. If the

43、control device is mounted in an easilyaccessible position it may be necessary to incorporate a locking arrangement to prevent unauthorized interference.NA.2.5.1.7It is often the case thatnot all the fume cupboards in a building are in use at any one time, andeconomies inrunning costs can be achieved

44、 by providing independent extract systems for groups of fumecupboards. Flues beyond the extract fans may be groupedand encased in multi-flue discharge stacks butusually at the expense of longer and more complicatedflue runs and higher discharge stacks.In order to prevent mixing offumes that could gi

45、ve rise to unacceptable hazards such as risk of fire or explosion, fume cupboards should be grouped according to the processes to be undertaken.However, the connection of more than one fume cupboard toan extract fan involves the provision of larger and usually more complicated ductwork with anincrea

46、sed maintenance liability. The need for a standbyfan and additional controls and indicators shouldbe considered. A collection/dilution system may be used for the dispersal of fumes from a number of individual extract systems or from common extract systems. The collection/dilution duct, discharge fan

47、 and common discharge flue shouldhave a capacity (after allowingfor the frequency of fume cupboard use) in excess of the total capacity of the extract fans connected to the duct, this excess depending on the quantity of air needed to be drawn in at the openend of the duct in order to restore the con

48、centration of fumes in thecommon sections of the system to an acceptable working level. Withthisarrangement also,the need for a standbyfanand additional safety controls andindicator should be considered.NA.2.5.2 DuctworkNA.2.5.2.1 Ductwork should have a smooth, obstruction-free interior and should b

49、e circular in cross-section.NOTE For recommendations regarding services accommodation ducts see BS 5588-9 and BS 8313.NA.2.5.2.2 The cross section of the ductwork and the routeing of the ducts within the building should be such thatthe noise leveliswithin the environmentalrequirements of the laboratory. Air velocities within the ducts should not exceed 7,5 m/s and where the noise level requirement is low, the air velocity shouldnot exceed:a) 5,0 m/s for single unit systems andbranches to fume cupboards on multiple unit systems;b)5,5 m/s for main ducts within buildings;c) 6,0
