20、eofchosenwoodpreservativesinfieldandlaboratorytestsandthe affectonbiologicalperformance.Theworkconsistedoffourcoretasksandassociatedsubtasksdesignedto providethescientificbackgroundtotheproposalsmade. Task1 Thisconsistedofastudyofartificialweatheringtechniquesfortheconditioningoftreatedtestblockspri

21、orto biologicaltest.Itwasoriginallyhopedthatitmightbepossibletorelatedifferentweatheringcyclestothedifferent climaticconditionsfoundwithinEurope.Howeverthisdidnotprovepossiblebutitispossibletorecommenda singleweatheringcycletoreplacetheuseofEN73andEN84.Adraftexperimentalstandardhasbeenprepared based

22、onthefindingsofthiswork. AllthesupportingdataandassociatedstudiesaresummarisedinthisTechnicalreportinclauses5and6. Task2 ThistaskconsistedofanextensivefieldtestbasedonENV12037andassociatedsubtasks.Themethodproved veryrobustbutsignificantmodificationsarerecommendedandtheENVistoberedraftedinthelightof

23、results containedinthisreport.Thisfieldtestshouldbeconsideredassimulatedservicetrialratherthananaccelerated fieldtest;aconceptthatneedscarefulconsiderationwithintheEN599framework. Subtasks2.3and2.4examinedthesuitabilityofthemethodforcompositesandthetestingofnaturallydurable timbers.Atthisstageitisto

24、oearlytomakerecommendationfortheirinclusioninthestandardbuttheresultslook promisingandthemethodwillprobablybemodifiedatalaterrevision. Tasks3and4 Thesetasksexaminedtheroleofbioconditioningoftestsamplesinuseclass3and4.Theresultsarepresented inclauses8and9andclearlyindicatetheimportanceofthissubject.I

30、ber.Alsocurrent preconditioningsystemsareinadequateandinsomecasesarenotrelevanttocertainuseclassesorindustrys needs.Thereexiststherefore,aneedtoestablishasuitablefieldtestandasingleprogressive,preconditioning systemsuitableforeachoftheuseclassesinwhichconstructiontimbersareexposed.Thedevelopmentofne

31、w, environmentallysafewoodpreservativesisurgentlyneededasthepressureontheoldersystemsincreasesandthe useofdurable,tropicaltimbersbecomelessacceptable.
