The design crit

9、eria established in the 1960 edition of BS3215 have become generally accepted such that urinals conforming to the standard are compatible with bed pan washers specified in BS2745. However, there had been criticism of the first edition of this standard because it was specific to one design and, hence

10、, in this revision the outdated design and material specification for male urinals has been replaced by performance criteria in order to allow for greater flexibility in the design and manufacture of portable urinals. The standard has also been expanded to include both male and female urinals as wel

11、l as specifying a smaller urinal for those males of small stature. The provision of a cap for a urinal has been made optional. This British Standard specifies performance and marking requirements and also specifies the surface finish as the quality of finish is of particular importance from the stan

12、dpoint of resistance to corrosion and of ease of cleaning and disinfection. The Committee preparing this standard was aware that the entry to the urinal should not damage the patients skin and this is referred to in note1 to clause6. However, no appropriate objective test procedure was available to

13、assess this quality. It has been assumed in the drafting of this standard that the tests for assessing compliance will be carried out by those who are appropriately qualified or under the supervision of experienced personnel. Product certification. Users of this British Standard are advised to consi

14、der the desirability of third party certification of product conformity with this British Standard based on testing and continuing product surveillance which may be coupled with assessment of a suppliers quality systems against the appropriate standard in the BSENISO9000 series. Enquiries as to the

15、availability of third party certification schemes are forwarded by BSI to the Association of British Certification Bodies. If a third party certification scheme does not already exist, users should consider approaching an appropriate body from the list of Association members. Alternatively, users of

16、 this British Standard may wish to consider the desirability of assessment and registration of a suppliers quality systems by a third party certification body against an appropriate standard in the BS EN ISO 9000 series. 19、uirements for reusable portable urinals intended for use by females (type1) and males (type2). A smaller size (type3) for males is also specified. The urinals specified in this standard are intended to fit into bed pan/urinal washer-disinfectors conforming to BS2745-2. NOTEAnnex A gives details of t

23、cle, essentially bottle-shaped, designed to be held close to or in contact with the human body, adjacent to the genitalia, for the collection of urine only 3.2 disinfection process used to reduce the number of viable micro-organisms in a product but which may not necessarily inactivate some viruses

24、and bacterial spores 3.3 sterilization process used to render a product free from viable micro-organisms 3.4 cap removable closure used to prevent spillage from a urinal NOTEThe cap is not intended to provide a watertight seal. 3.5 bedside urinal holder device provided to prevent the overturning of

25、a urinal when placed in a vertical attitude, i.e. with its major axis approximately vertical 4 Classification Urinals shall be classified as follows: a) type 1: urinals with a minimum capacity of1000ml, intended for use by female persons; b) type 2: urinals with a minimum capacity of1000ml, intended

26、 for use by male persons; c) type 3: urinals with a minimum capacity of650ml, intended for use by male persons. 5 Materials NOTE 1In selecting materials that are liable to come into contact with a patients skin, the purchaser and the manufacturer should be aware of the need to minimize thermal shock

27、 to the patient. (See alsoAnnex A.) Materials used for the construction of any part of the urinal shall conform to the requirements given inTable 1. Expanded or cellular (foam) plastics materials shall not be used. NOTE 2The materials used should preferably be transparent or translucent in order to

28、enable users to check that the urinal is clean or full, and to enable users to visually inspect the urine contents. (See6.1, 8.5 and Annex A.) 6 Construction and surface finish NOTE 1All external surfaces of the urinal and especially the entry rim should be designed so that the unprotected skin of a

29、 user will suffer no damage. (See foreword.) NOTE 2Abrasives can significantly scratch some materials and the manufacturer should warn the purchaser when a surface is particularly vulnerable and is to be cleaned with extra care. (Seealso11.3 and clause12.) 6.1 The surface finish of the urinal, both

30、internal and external, shall present a smooth surface, free from any discontinuities and free from crevices having a radius of curvature of less than3mm. It shall be possible to visually inspect all surfaces without the aid of instruments or equipment (seenote2 to clause5). 6.2 All urinals shall hav

31、e one opening only and shall be of one-piece construction with no supplementary components that require fitting before use. 32、als 6.3 The design shall provide unobstructed access through the orifice by which all surfaces can be washed by any washer-disinfector conforming to BS2745-2:1993 (see8.5). 6.4 With type 1 urinals, any part of the surface that is intended to come into direct contact with the users skin shall be not

33、less than4mm wide or4mm thick. 6.5 If the urinal is fitted with a handle see clause10 and item e) inAnnex A, either: a) it shall be of solid construction; or b) if hollow: 1) it shall be securely sealed against the entrapment of liquid or vapour; or 2) it shall permit cleaning as specified in6.3. Th

34、e handle shall be not less than100mm long and the separation between the handle and the wall of the urinal shall be not less than25mm for at least75mm of its length. With the urinal containing water not less than60% of the maximum capacity and held by the handle for60s with the principal axis at45 5

35、 to the horizontal, the handle shall not flex by more than10% in any direction. 7 Design (dimensions and capacity) NOTE 1It is assumed that the urinals specified in this British Standard will be bottle-shaped and that at least part of the wall of the urinal will have a nominally flat area which perm

36、its the urinal to be laid down in an approximately horizontal attitude without rolling about. NOTE 2As all types of urinal may be used when supine, this should be borne in mind when considering the design. 7.1 Dimensions The overall dimensions of the urinal shall permit the urinal to fit any washer-

37、disinfector conforming to BS2745-2:1993. (See also6.3.) For a type1urinal, the orifice shall be not less than70mm at its widest and not less than40mm at its narrowest. For types2 and3 urinals, the distance across any axis of the orifice shall be not less than45mm. All radii shall be not less than3mm

38、. 7.2 Capacity 7.2.1 Nominal capacity When placed on a firm horizontal surface with its principal axis essentially vertical or when held vertical in a bedside urinal holder (if supplied), a type1 or type2 urinal shall be capable of containing not less than1 000ml of water without any overflow and wi

39、thout leakage. When placed on a firm horizontal surface with its principal axis essentially vertical or when held vertical in a bedside urinal holder (if supplied), a type3 urinal shall be capable of containing not less than650ml of water without any overflow and without leakage. 7.2.2 Tilt capacity

40、 When a type 1 or type2 urinal containing not less than950ml of water, positioned vertically as described in7.2.1 is tilted at an angle of10 from the vertical in any direction, there shall be no spillage. When a type 3 urinal containing not less than600ml of water, positioned vertically as described

41、 in7.2.1, is tilted at an angle of10 from the vertical in any direction, there shall be no spillage. 44、ce, the urinal shall be capable of containing900ml of water without any overflow and without leakage. When a type 3 urinal is placed in a horizontal attitude with the flattened side on a firm horizontal surface, the urinal shall be capable of containing550ml of water without any overflow and without

45、 leakage. 7.2.4 Horizontal tilt capacity With the urinal placed in a horizontal attitude with the flattened side on a flat horizontal surface, type1 and type2 urinals shall retain not less than550ml of water and type3 urinals shall retain not less than350ml of water when tilted at an angle of10 in a

46、ny direction. 7.3 Graduations Each urinal shall be marked with graduations at intervals of at least100ml (see note). With the urinal in a vertical attitude or free-standing with its principal axis approximately vertical, the accuracy of the graduations shall be 15% or 25ml, whichever is the greater.

47、 Each graduation shall be not less than2mm wide and not less than4mm long. Each graduation shall be not more than1mm high or1mm deep. NOTEOther graduations are not precluded. 8 Performance 8.1 Strength When tested as described inAnnex B, no dimension of the urinal shall have changed by more than3%.

48、8.2 Stability With the urinal containing water at not less than its nominal capacity (see7.2.1) and when placed in a vertical attitude on a flat horizontal surface or free-standing with its principal axis approximately vertical, the urinal shall not overturn when tilted to an angle of10 in any direc

49、tion. 8.3 Drainage When the urinal, containing not less than100ml of water, is inverted with its principal axis at an angle of110 to the horizontal, no more than1ml of water shall be retained after2min. 8.4 Temperature stability When the urinal is tested as described inAnnex C, no dimension shall have changed by more than5%. 8.5 Cleanability When the urinal is tested as described inAnnex D, there shall be no visible residues of the test soil. 8.6 Durability When the urinal containing not less than 750ml of water at a temperature of between15 C and25
