11、 the 2006 edition encompassednew production methods that were not reflected in the requirements of the2001 edition. The 2006 revision attempted to address these new productiontechniques by requiring hot water bottles to be tested as products and not thematerials they are manufactured from.The “full

12、thickness” tensile strength and the full thickness tear strengthintroduced in the 2006 edition are requirements that assess the material,production method and mould design. The aim of this standard is to provide theminimum specification for safe hot water bottles and, in so doing, prevent someof the

13、 injuries that might have been a consequence of unsafe products.Presentational conventionsThe provisions of this standard are presented in roman (i.e. upright) type. 24、 Standards Institution 20124 Physical properties4.1 Visual examinationSee Figure 1 for hot water bottle components.When inspected with the naked eye, the hot water bottle shall not exhibit:a) inclusions of foreign matter;b) tears, blisters, cuts; orc) any other defects that could adversely affect th

25、e safe performance of thehot water bottle.NOTE Attention should be paid to the neckbody intersection where trimming canresult in a nick which acts as a stress raiser that weakens the product in this area.The visual examination shall continue during the preparation of test pieces asthe discovery of a

26、ny of these detrimental defects will constitute failure toconform to this standard.4.2 ThicknessThe hot water bottle shall, at no point on its surface, have a thickness less thanthat shown in Table 1, according to its capacity and the material of construction.Thickness shall be determined in accorda

28、 2 000 1.7 2 000 1.84.3 Filling characteristicsThe minimum filling aperture shall not be less than 18 mm diameter.If the diameter of the filling aperture is less than 20.3 mm, the bottle shall beequipped with an integral filling funnel having a minimum capacity of 60 mLwith the stopper fitted, and e

29、xtending beyond the height of the stopper.When the hot water bottle is filled with the recommended volume of water at(23 2) C, the inside faces shall not stick or block together and the bottle shallfill to its recommended capacity within 30 s.5 Closures5.1 GeneralThe hot water bottle shall be provid

30、ed with a stopper that, when tested inaccordance with C.3, Test 1 and C.4, Test 2 shall show no visible leakage and novisible damage to the closure.When tested in accordance with C.5, Test 3, the closure and any of itsdetachable parts shall not fit entirely in any orientation within the small partsc

32、k block;c) the neck block and the body of the hot water bottle.There shall be no other visual defects that could impair the integrity of thebottle.5.3 Rubber componentsIf a rubber washer is used as part of a screw stopper or if a rubber plug (push-inrubber stopper) is provided, the rubber shall have

33、 a hardness of between55 IRHD and 80 IRHD, when determined in accordance withBS ISO 48, Method N.The rubber compound from which a plug or washer is manufactured shall havea compression set of not greater than 30%, when determined in accordancewith BS ISO 815-1, using Type B test pieces, for 24h with

34、 a temperature of(70 1) C maintained during the compression period.When tested in accordance with C.4, Test 2, the rubber washer shall not exhibita loss of thickness greater than 30%.6 Performance6.1 LeakageThe hot water bottle body shall show no visible leakage when inflated with airto a minimum pr

35、essure of (14 0.5) kPa and immersed in water for a minimumtime of 5 s.6.2 Strength of bonded (or welded) seamsIf present, bonded (or welded) seams shall withstand a minimum tensile force of72 N when tested in accordance with Annex E.6.3 Pressure testThe hot water bottle shall show no visible leakage

36、 when tested in accordancewith Annex F.6.4 Tensile stressstrain properties6.4.1 GeneralRubber hot water bottles shall be tested in accordance with 6.4.2. The fullthickness tensile properties as specified in 6.4.2.1, 6.4.2.2 and 6.4.2.3 shall bedetermined in accordance with BS ISO 37, using rate of g

37、rip separation of500 mm/min. Type 1 dumb-bell test pieces shall be used, unless the shape of thebottle is such that Type 1 dumb-bells cannot be cut from it, whenBS ISO 37 Type 2 dumb-bell test pieces shall be used.PVC hot water bottles shall be tested in accordance with 6.4.3. The full thicknesstens

38、ile properties as specified in 6.4.3.1, 6.4.3.2 and 6.4.3.3 shall be determinedin accordance with BS EN ISO 527-1 using a rate of grip separation of500 mm/min. BS EN ISO 527-3 Type 5 dumb-bell test pieces shall be used, unlessthe shape of the bottle is such that Type 5 dumb-bells cannot be cut from

39、it,when BS ISO 37 Type 2 dumb-bell test pieces shall be used.BRITISH STANDARDBS 1970:20124 The British Standards Institution 2012The full thickness tensile properties shall be determined on the hot water bottlewithout removing any embossing or ribbing from the test pieces. The strengthshall be calcu

40、lated as the maximum load in newtons at break divided by thewidth of the central parallel portion of the dumb-bell used.NOTE The width is normally taken from measurements made on the cutter.A minimum of three test pieces (preferably five) shall be taken in two directionsfrom the hot water bottle. If

41、 the embossing or ribs are unidirectional, the testpieces shall be taken so that their major axis is parallel to the embossing or ribsand at right angles to the embossing or ribs. If the embossing or ribs are notunidirectional, take test pieces in two directions at right angles to incorporatethe pos

42、sible maximum and minimum strength.6.4.2 Tensile tests for rubber hot water bottles6.4.2.1 Tensile stressstrain properties before ageingWhen tested in accordance with 6.4.1, the tensile strength shall be not less than22.5 N/mm width and the elongation at break shall be not less than 500%.6.4.2.2 Ten

43、sile stressstrain properties after ageingAfter ageing the test pieces in an air circulating oven for (168 2) h at atemperature of (70 1) C in accordance with BS ISO 188, the tensile strengthshall be not less than 17.0 N/mm width and the elongation at break shall be notless than 425%.6.4.2.3 Tensile

44、stressstrain properties after immersionAfter continuous immersion of the test pieces in distilled water of a temperatureof (70 1) C for (95 1) h, the tensile strength shall be not less than21.0 N/mm width and the elongation at break shall be not less than 425%. Thetest pieces shall be measured befor

45、e immersion in the water. After theimmersion period, the test pieces shall be stored in water at (23 2) C for aperiod of not less than 16 h and not more than 96 h before testing.6.4.3 Tensile tests for PVC hot water bottles6.4.3.1 Tensile stressstrain properties before ageingWhen tested in accordanc

46、e with 6.4.1, the tensile strength shall be not less than12 N/mm width and the elongation at break shall be not less than 150%.6.4.3.2 Tensile stressstrain properties after ageingAfter ageing in an air circulating oven as described in BS ISO 188 for (168 2) hat a temperature of (100 2) C and, when t

47、ested in accordance with 6.4.1, thetensile strength shall be not less than 12 N/mm width and the elongation atbreak shall be not less than 150%.6.4.3.3 Tensile stressstrain properties after extractionAfter Soxhlet extraction with water of the test pieces over (168 2) h using anapparatus in accordanc

48、e with BS 2071, the tensile strength of the test piecesshall be not less than 12 N/mm width and the elongation at break shall be notless than 150% when tested in accordance with 6.4.1.6.5 Other material specific requirements6.5.1 Tension set for rubber hot water bottlesWhen determined in accordance
