Terminology3.1 GeneralDefinitions are in accordance with Ter
8、mi-nologies D 883 and E 631 and abbreviations with TerminologyD 1600 unless otherwise indicated.3.2 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.2.1 backerboarda flat material used on the face of thehouse, applied between the studs and the siding (or overexisting wall surface) to provide an even
9、 surface for theinstallation of the vinyl siding.3.2.2 buttlockthe bottom of a siding or soffit panel, oraccessory piece, opposite the nail hem, which locks onto thepreceding panel.3.2.3 crimpsmall protrusions, typically approximately12in. (12.7 mm) long,18 in. (3.2 mm) wide, and projecting18 in.(3.
10、2 mm) formed by a crimper (snaplock punch). (See Fig. 2.)3.2.4 crimpera special hand tool designed to form crimps(snaplock ears) intended to hold partial panels in place. (SeeFig. 2.)3.2.5 face nailthe action of fastening directly on to the“face,” or exposed surface, of a panel (instead of using the
11、 nailslot).3.2.6 fasciathe trim covering the ends of roof rafters. 15、ter-sections, designed and intended to move incidental water to thebuilding exterior.3.2.8 furring/furring stripa wooden or steel framing ma-terial, usually a nominal 1 by 2 in. (25.4 by 50.8 mm) used toeven the surface in preparation for installation of siding. To“fur” a surface means to apply thes
16、e strips.3.2.9 nailslot puncha special hand tool used to createslots for attachment of field-modified siding or accessories.(See Fig. 3.)3.2.10 rake (roof)the inclined, usually projecting edge ofa sloping roof.3.2.11 rake (wall)the board or molding placed along thesloping sides of a gable to cover t
17、he ends of the siding.3.2.12 snaplock earssee crimp and Fig. 2.3.2.13 snaplock punchsee crimper and Fig. 2.3.2.14 sofftthe underside surface (typically horizontal) ofroof overhangs.3.2.15 starter stripan accessory applied directly to thesurface of the building and used to secure the first course ofs

Starter strips can either be a part manufac-tured for the specific purpose or created by cutting the nailinghem and adjacent lock from a siding panel.3.2.16 undersill trim (utility trim)an accessory strip usedto receive and hold the crimped edge of horizontal or verticalsiding tha
19、t has had its normal lock removed.3.2.17 zip tool (unlocking tool)a special hand tool used toseparate interlocked siding panels. (See Fig. 2.)4. Delivery of Materials4.1 All manufactured materials shall be delivered in theoriginal packages, containers, or bundles bearing the size ortype product, or

Protection of Materials5.1 Do not store in any location or in an
21、y manner where thetemperature of the siding, soffit or accessories is likely toexceed 130F (54C).5.2 Store the cartons on a flat surface and support the entirelength of the cartons.5.3 Store the cartons away from areas where falling objectsor other construction activity could impact the cartons. Kee
22、pthe cartons dry.5.4 Do not store the cartons in stacks more than 12 boxeshigh.6. Environmental Conditions6.1 Vinyl siding and accessories will expand when heatedand contract when cooled. If siding is installed in hot weatherand the siding is very warm it will be partially “expanded.”Provide allowan
23、ce for more future “contraction” than expan-sion.6.2 Leave14 in. (6.4 mm) clearance between the ends ofpanels and trim and any receiver such as J-channels and cornerposts to allow for thermal expansion. If installing duringweather colder than 40F (4.4C), increase the minimumclearance to38 in. (9.5 m
24、m) to allow for additional expansionduring warmer weather.7.
