8、ue so well? When we compare them with adults learning a foreign language, we often find this interesting fact. Despite other explanations, the real answer in my opinion lies partly in the child himself, partly in the behavior of the people around him. A child hears it spoken from morning till night and, what is more important, always in its genuine form, with the right pronunciation, right intonation, right use of words and right structure. He drinks in(吸收 ) all the words and expressions, which come to him in a f
11、lash, ever-bubbling(冒泡的 ) spring. There is no resistance: there is perfect assimilation. Then the child has, as it were, private lessons all the year round, while an adult language-student has each week a limited number of hours, which he generally shares with others. The child has another advantage
12、 : he hears the language in all possible situations, always accompanied by the right kind of gestures and facial expressions. Here there is nothing unnatural, such as it is often found in language lessons in schools, when one talks about ice and snow in June or scorching heat in January. And what a
13、child hears is generally what immediately interests him. Again and again, when his attempts at speech are successful, his desires are understood and fulfilled. Finally, though a childs “teachers“ may not have been trained in language teaching, their relations with him are always close and personal.

This may be done by keeping in mind a few simple facts. 2 An important thing to
19、 remember about cut flowers is that they are sensitive to temperature. For example, studies have shown that cut carnations (康乃馨 ) retain their freshness eight times longer when kept at 12 than when kept at 26 . 21、), called respiration (呼吸 ), generates the energy the flower needs to give the flower its shape and color. The making of seeds also depends on this energy. Thus the greater the level of respiration, the sooner the flower dies. 4 How, then, to control the rate at which flowers die? By controlling respiration. How is respiration control
23、led? By controlling temperature. We know that respiration produces heat, but the reverse is also true. Thus by maintaining low temperatures, respiration is reduced and the cut flower will age more slowly. 5 Another vital factor in keeping cut flowers is the quality of the water in which they are pla
24、ced. Flowers find it difficult to “drink“ water that is dirty or otherwise polluted. Even when water looks and smells clean, it almost certainly contains harmful substances that can endanger the flowers.
