Mr. Len Murray, General Secretary of the British Trades Union Congress, said he hoped the new organization, officially formed on March 1, could help further the dialogue between the nations of the industrialized North and the developing South. 6、ch Factory, opened in 1978, has been closed down due to acute shortage of spare pans, lack of raw materials and cash flow problems. The general manager of the company? Mr. Nasir Mikhali, regretted the closure because he had thought the project was viable. The factory was a joint venture of the Sokot
7、o State Government, Messrs Alawa A/C factory, and PAPCO (Nigeda) Ltd. It had 50 employees and was producing about 27,000 canons of good quality matches a year. The workers went on strike. D The meeting of the international Tin Council in London earlier this month decided to raise the price range of
8、the buffer stock by ten percent. This lifted the “floor“ from 1,500 ringgit (Malaysian dollars) per picul (133 1/31bs) to M 1,650 per picul and the “ceiling“ from M 1,950 to M 2,145. At last weeks exchange rates that would make the floor a bit under 6,000 a tonne and the ceiling over 7,250 a tonne,

11、 Reading Test you read a text with gaps in it, and choose the best sentence to fill each gap from a set of seven sentences. First read the text for the overall meaning, then go back and look for the best sentence for each gap. Make sure the sentence fits both the meaning and the grammar of the text
12、around the gap. Read the on the opposite page about an awards scheme for companies. Choose the best sentence from below to fill each of the gaps. For each gap 8 - 12, mark one letter (A - G) on your Answer Sheet. Do not use any letter more than once. There is an example at the beginning, (0). The re
13、gions best smaller companies Once again, readers of this magazine have the chance to vote for the regions best companies. (0)The awards will be presented at a dinner in Birmingham on May 17. The pattern established in the first year, of awards for Best Established Company, Best New Company and Best
14、Entrepreneur, will of course continue. However this year sees a new category, that of Best Communication with Investors. (8) . The Established Company of the Year will be one whose success has lasted for more than just a couple of months or years. Its share price will be performing above the average
15、 for its sector, but that is not the only measurement which will be taken into account. (9) . Above all, the winner will be professionally managed, in a way that deals equally well with good and bad trading conditions. The New Company of the Year will have gone public last year, but will already hav
16、e shown its growth and management qualities. (10) . In fact three early winners have already been successful in this second category, as well. The Entrepreneur of the Year will be someone with a proven track record of expertise in setting up and providing leadership to one or possibly more businesse
17、s. He or she will have created an organisation that can deal with the demands placed on it as a public company. (11) . The winner will have maintained a balance between that original energy and the need to adapt as the company grows. In our new category, Best Communication with Investors, the winnin
18、g company will show that it is engaging in two-way dialogue with both actual and potential investors. (12) . All of these communication channels will be carefully tailored for the intended audience. In addition, the company is likely to distribute press releases by electronic means, to maximise its
19、opportunities for publicity. Nominations for awards were invited several months ago, and reduced by the judges to a shortlist of three in each category.
