Scope1.1 This specification covers the composition and physicalproperties of spray-applied cellulosic fiber stabilized thermalinsulation appli
3、ed to open or closed ceiling spaces, regardlessof slope, where temperatures range from -49 to 194F (-45 to90C).1.2 Stabilized cellulosic fiber thermal insulation is producedby the addition of adhesive(s) to loose-fill cellulosic fiberinsulation. The adhesive(s) may be added to the insulation attime
4、of manufacture and, if necessary, activated by the additionof water when installed or the adhesive may be added to theinsulation at the time of installation.1.3 This is a material specification that is not intended todeal with methods of application that are supplied by themanufacturer.1.4 The value

Terminology3.1 DefinitionsFor definitions of terms used in this speci-fication, see Terminology C 168.3.2 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.2.1 shrinkagedecrease in thicknes
9、s that occurs from thetime of installation until the insulation achieves a stablemoisture content.3.2.2 stabilized cellulosea cellulosic insulation producttreated to resist, after drying, further settling of no more than5%.4. Materials and Manufacture4.1 The basic material shall be recycled cellulos
10、ic fibermade from selected paper or paperboard stock. Additives areintroduced to provide properties such as flame resistance,processing and handling characteristics. An adhesive is addedto the insulation product to resist long-term settling of theinsulation after installation and curing.4.2 The mate
11、rials are processed into a form suitable forinstallation by a pneumatic method.4.3 The adhesive may be added to the product at the time ofmanufacture or at the time of installation by means of a liquidspray.5. Physical and Chemical Properties5.1 DensityThe density of conditioned stabilized insula-ti
12、on in lb/ft3(kg/m3) shall be determined in accordance withSection 7.5.2 CorrosivenessThe loose-fill insulation material shallbe tested for corrosiveness in accordance with Section 8. Thecomposition of the insulation material shall be such that aftertesting, no perforation of the 0.003 in. (0.076 mm)
13、 metalspecimens shall be evident when the specimens are observedover a 40-W appliance light bulb. Notches extending into thecoupon 0.1 in. 16、 accordance withSection 9, the critical radiant flux shall be equal to or greaterthan 0.11 Btu/ft2s (0.12 W/cm2). All values shall be reported totwo significant digits.5.4 Fungi ResistanceThe loose-fill insulation materialshall be tested and pass fungi resistance as specified in Section10. All three
17、 test specimens shall exhibit growth less than orequal to the comparative material in order to pass.5.5 Water Vapor SorptionMoisture gain in the insulationshall be no more than 15 % by weight when tested inaccordance with Section 11.5.6 Odor EmissionAny sample producing a detectableodor that is clas
18、sified as objectionable and strong or strong bymore than two panel members shall be considered to havefailed the test when tested in accordance with Section 12.5.7 Smoldering CombustionWhen tested in accordancewith the smoldering combustion test method in Section 13, theinsulation shall show no evid
19、ence of flaming and a weight lossof no greater than 15 % of the specimen weight.5.8 Thermal ResistanceThe standard thermal resistancevalues recommended for application shall be expressed inFhft2/Btu (Km2/W). The R-value shall be measured inaccordance with Section 14. During random sampling, anaverag
20、e measured R for four specimens that is 95 % of thelabeled value shall be acceptable provided no measurement isless than 90 % of the labeled value.35.9 Flame Resistance PermanencyThe importance of aninsulation product to maintain its fire retardant characteristicsis recognized. A task group is curre
21、ntly studying methods toascertain if there is long-term deterioration of fire performancecharacteristics of cellulose insulation. Should the need for apermanency test method be determined by this task group anda test method developed and finalized, it will become a part ofthis specification.5.10 Shr
22、inkageThe shrinkage (S1) determined in accor-dance with Section 7.5.11 SettlingThe settling (S2) determined in accordancewith Section 7 shall be no greater than 5 %.6. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance6.1 The product shall be free of extraneous foreign materialssuch as metals and glass that will a
23、dversely affect the perfor-mance in service.7. Shrinkage, Settling, and Density7.1 Density:7.1.1 ScopeThis test method provides a basis for calcu-lating the product coverage values and for conducting physicalproperty tests requiring the use of density for specimenpreparation. The shrinkage and settl
24、ing results provide infor-mation for installation.7.1.2 Significance and UseThe density is the weight perunit volume expected after long-term attic use. All testing ofthis product shall be done using specimens having the densitydetermined by the drop box method described in this section.7.1.3 Appara
