2、s Replies to Technical Inquiries January 1996 - August 2000 FOREWORD This publication includes all of the written replies issued between the indicated dates by the Secretary, speaking for the ASME B30 Committee on Safety Standards for Cableways, Cranes, Derricks, Hoists, Hooks, Jacks, and Slings to

3、inquiries concerning interpretations of technical aspects of B30.6, Derricks. These replies are taken verabtim from the original letters except for a few typographical corrections and some minor editorial corrections made for the purpose of improved clarity. In some few instances, a review of the in

4、terpretation revealed a need for corrections of a technical nature; in these cases, a corrected interpretation follows immediately after the original reply. These interpretations were prepared in accordance with the accredited ASME procedures. ASME procedures provide for reconsideration of these int

5、erpretations when or if additional information is available which the inquirer believes might affect the interpretation. Further, persons aggrieved by this interpretation may appeal to the cognizant ASME Committee or Subcommittee. ASME does not “approve,” “certify,” “rate,” or “endorse” any item, co

7、ther on the surface of the ground and/or below the ground, a derrick as defined in Section 6-0.2.1? See Fig. 6-1. Reply (1): No. The device portrayed does not fall under the scope of the B30 Standard. Question (2): In moving the load, if, as the derrick releases the load for a free fall, there is sl

8、ack in the cable(s) securing the load (there is a lack of smooth transition in the arc of the radius of the cable), is this in violation of the Standards? Reply (2): Since Question 1 is beyond the scope of the B30 Standard, this question cannot be responded to. Question (3): Is an assembly (see Fig.

9、 6-2) which includes a harness and support straps connected to a ring at the end of a lift mechanism a sling as defined in Section 9-0.2? By way of background, this assembly (Fig. 6-2) is connected to two cables to an A frame tower, and the load is lifted by a third cable connected to a separate lif

10、t tower (see Fig. 6-1). 15、0.6 interpretations No. 1 Interpretation: 6-1 Subject: ANSIIASME B30.6-1984 Date Issued: March 4, 1986 Question: Why is the dead end of the wire rope that runs through a wedge socket, as illustrated in Section 6-1.3.5(f) and Fig. 9, not secured to the live end with clips? Reply: Attaching the dead e

16、nd of the wire rope to the live sides of the line with the clip will significantly reduce the strength of the wire rope and the wedge sockets efficiency. The clip fastened to the live end could ultimately transfer the applied loads, act as a stress riser, and deform and break the wire rope. The fastening recommended in ANSIIASME B30.5 and B30.6 is not new or unproven. It has been successfully applied and publicized from the early 1970s.
