PURP

26、OSEThe purpose of this standard is to prescribe a laboratorytest method for evaluating the filtration capability of filters andfilter driers used in liquid lines of refrigeration systems.2. SCOPE2.1 This laboratory test method evaluates the capability ofliquid-line filters and filter driers only for

27、 removing andretaining solid particles of a standard test contaminant.2.2 The test method may be applied to all hermetic refriger-ant liquid-line filters and filter driers up to and includingModel 417S (line size 23 mm maximum).2.3 The technique employed in this standard is the one-passtest method.

28、In this test, a clean-up filter is installed down-stream of the test sample and is designed to retain and preventrecirculation of most of the contaminant particles that are notcollected by the test sample in the first pass.2.4 Filter driers have the added capability of removing andretaining certain

29、dissolved contaminants. This standard doesnot provide measurement of this capability.3. DEFINITIONScontaminant capacity (Mc): the mass in grams of testcontaminant that is retained by the filter under test.contaminant loading (Mt): the mass in grams of test contam-inant that is added to the test appa

30、ratus.filter efficiency (Ef): contaminant capacity divided bycontaminant loading, expressed as a percent.filter under test: liquid-line filter or liquid-line filter drier thatis under evaluation.liquid-line filter: a device for removing and retaining solidcontaminants from the liquid line of a refri

31、geration system.liquid-line filter drier: a filter containing a desiccant capableof removing moisture and other dissolved contaminants in therefrigerant stream.pressure drop (P): the difference in pressure between thefilter inlet and filter outlet, including fittings, expressed inkilopascals.test fl

32、ow rate: the flow of clean test fluid, expressed in kilo-grams per second, that is specified for the filter under test.4. MATERIALS AND APPARATUS4.1 Test Contaminant4.1.1 General. The test contaminant will be a blend of50% coarse test dust as received and 50% retained in a 200-mesh screen. Prepare t

33、his blend from SAE coarse test dustdescribed in SAE J726 JUN93. Sources for the coarse testdust may be found by contacting the Society of AutomotiveEngineers, Inc., 400 Commonwealth Drive, Warrendale, PA15096-0001; (724) 776-4841.4.1.2 Preparation of Test Contaminant. To prepare theblend of contamin

34、ant, first wet-screen a quantity of coarse testdust on a US (ASTM) or Tyler 200-mesh screen (particleretention = 74 m). This is done by placing a portion of thecoarse test dust on a 200-mesh screen and running waterthrough the screen while stirring the course test dust with thefingers. Discard the f

35、ine particles passing through the screen.The +200-mesh particles collected on the screen are removedand dried for one hour at 110C. The test contaminant is pre-pared by mixing 50% by mass of the coarse test dust asreceived (after drying for one hour at 110C) with 50% bymass of the +200-mesh-screened

36、 dust.4.1.2.1 Particle Size Analysis. The coarse test dust asreceived and the blend used as the test contaminant have theapproximate particle sizes listed in Table 1.4.2 Test Fluid. The test fluid shall be Refrigerant 113 (R-113),which is an ozone-depleting substance. Take care to minimizeevaporatio

37、n or loss of test fluid.4.3 Clean-Up Filter. The pump shall be capable of producing asteady-state, nonpulsating flow sufficient to maintain thestandard flow rate through the filter being tested at pressuredrops up to 69 kPa.4.4.2 Reservoir. The reservoir shall be of adequate size to

40、maintain a suitable liquid level at the pump while the testapparatus is operating. To avoid potential problems with con-taminant settling out in the reservoir, it shall be provided witha conical bottom outlet. The volume should be such that theflow rate of the test fluid returning to the reservoir w

41、ill createenough turbulence to prevent settling of the test contaminant.The entrance to the reservoir may be from any direction pro-vided there is sufficient turbulence or imparted velocity toprevent the test contaminant from settling out of the test fluid.4.4.3 Bypass Valve. A bypass valve shall be

42、 provided inthe test apparatus in order to vary and control the flow ratethrough the filter under test. In some systems it may be possi-ble to control the flow rate by regulating the pump speed.4.4.4 Flowmeter. The flowmeter may be of any gener-ally accepted type, such as an orifice meter, venturi m

43、eter, orrotameter. The meter should be of such construction andinstalled in such a way that it does not create undue turbulenceor disturb the steady-state flow in the test apparatus. Themeter shall be calibrated to ensure that any error in indicatedflow is less than 5%.4.4.5 Heat Exchanger. A heat e

44、xchanger shall be pro-vided (if necessary) to maintain the test fluid at 30C 6C.4.4.6 Manometer. A manometer or other pressure-measuring device with a maximum error of 0.3 kPa shall beused to measure the pressure drop across the filter under test.If a U-tube manometer is used, the reading shall be c

45、orrectedfor the effect of the test fluid column on top of the measuringfluid. The pressure taps shall be located approximately 2 tubediameters upstream of the filter and 10 tube diameters down-stream of the filter. Burr-free holes measuring 1.6 mm indiameter shall be used for pressure taps; however,

46、 in line sizes6 mm or smaller, 0.8 mm diameter holes shall be used. 4.4.7 Sight Glasses. Sight glasses shall be installed in thetest apparatus so a visual check can be made to ensure that asolid liquid flow (no bubbles) exists at the inlet and outlet ofthe filter under test.4.4.8 Contaminant-Loading

47、 Device. A contaminant-loading device shall be installed with bypass valves upstreamof the filter under test to permit the introduction of the testcontaminant into the test apparatus while it is in operation.4.4.9 Vent Valve. A vent valve (optional solenoid valve)shall be located at the top of the t

48、est loop immediately aheadof the filter under test to permit the test fluid to drain freelyfrom the filter under test and the clean-up filter. Test fluid dis-charged from the vent valve must be recovered.4.5 Equipment Layout. The general layout of the testapparatus is shown in Figure 1. The line siz

49、e used throughoutthe test apparatus may be any convenient size to cover a rangeof flow rates that will permit the testing of filters of varioussize and prevent settling or trapping of the contaminant. Theline adjacent to the filter under test shall have the same size asthe fittings of the filter under test for a minimum straight dis-tance of at least 15 tube diameters upstream and downstreamof the filter under test.5. TEST TO DETERMINE ACCURACYOF TEST SYSTEM5.1 General. The test for accuracy consists of adding aspecified amount of contaminant to the test apparatus
