、rds New Zealand Committee WS-032, Water Efficient Products, to supersede MP 641995, Manual of assessment procedure for water efficient appliances. This Standard incorporates Amendment No. 1 (July 2005). The changes required by the Amendment are indicated in the text by a marginal bar and amendment n
、umber against the clause affected. The objective of this Standard is to specify the procedure for water efficient products that are intended for connection to water supplies, to be appropriately rated relative to specified criteria. This edition includes an upgrading of the rating system from a maxi
、mum of 3A to 5A. The upgrade was considered essential not only to allow for a clearer differentiation between similar products but also to encourage further improvement in water efficiency of water-using products so as to make an even greater contribution to conservation of water. This edition also
、sets out the assessment procedure and certification conditions in greater detail, as well as adds flow regulators as an additional product (to the original six products) that can be rated and certified under the requirements of this Standard. Further, it extends the period of certification to five y
、ears. The increased period of certification aligns the scheme associated with this Standard with that of the mandatory energy consumption labelling scheme for products such as dishwashers and clothes washers. This edition is released with the objective that further development of the Standard will c
、ontinue. For instance, additional work is required to ensure that the performance tests for shower heads result in a comfortable and effective shower at the reduced flow rates of the new higher ratings. For this reason the 4A and 5A ratings for some products (see the footnote to Table 7.1) will not
、be available for certification. In the case of clothes washers since the performance Standard AS/NZ 2040.1 does not currently include a rinse test, work is continuing in the development of a suitable test that will establish that clothes have been effectively rinsed and that the product is fit for p
、urpose. Also, research into the appropriate and acceptable flow rates for bubblers (water fountains) is currently being conducted, which, when completed, will be incorporated into the requirements for taps. It is anticipated that additional product specifications (e.g., for evaporative coolers and i
、rrigation systems) will be developed and these will be considered for inclusion into this Standard. To minimize the effect on products already certified under the 3A system, the upgraded scheme will allow most licensed products that do not qualify for a higher rating to retain their existing rating
、although the label itself will need to be amended to the new 5A label. Where products can demonstrate performance at a rating higher then they had been licensed to, they would be eligible for an upgrade. This Standard, which forms the foundation of the National Water Conservation Rating and Labellin
