This specification covers M30 Propellant for use in the M200 Propelling Charge. 1.2 Classification. The propellant shall

10、event of a conflict between the text of this specification and the reference cited herein, the text of this specification shall take precedence. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Material. The propellant shall be M30, Type I conforming to the requirements of MIL-STD-652 and Drawing (Dwg) 9282042. 3.2 Ballistic as

11、sessment requirements. The propellant when fired in the L20A1 Tube with the M1 projectile (see 4.5) shall comply with the following requirements;-at 70 degrees Fahrenheit (OF) and standard weapon conditions. The propellant shall be capable of assessment to a velocity of 2020 + 25 feet per second (fp

I 0 i 3.3.1 Uniformity of velocity. The standard deviation of velocity for the lot at 700F shall not exceed 8.0 fps. 3.3.2 Averaqe p

14、ressure. At 700F and standard weapon a conditions, the propellant shall not produce an average pressure I 3.3.3 Individual maximum pressure (IMP). The propellant greater than 46,500 psi. shall not produce an individual pressure greatet than 57,000 psi when fired at 1450. 3.4 Initial production. This

15、 specification contains provisions for initial production inspection. Requirements for the submission of initiai production inspection samples by the contractor shall be as specified in 4.5.1.2.1 3.5 Preproduction inspection. This specification contains provisions for preproduction inspection. Requi

16、rements for the submission of preproductiun inspection samples by the contractor shall be as specified in 4.3.1. 3.6 WorkmanshiE. The best commercial practices shall be used in the formulation of propellant furnished under this specification, and all other applicable documents. The propellant and it

17、s standard ingredients shall be protected from the action of direct sunlight and acid fumes. Unless other specified, no reground propellant or nitrocellulose shall be used in the manufacture of propellant procured under this specification. (b 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for in

18、spection and standard quality assurance provisions. Unless otherwise specified herein or in the contract, the provisions of MIL-A-48078 shall apply and are hereby made a part of this detail specification. Unless otherwise specified in the contract, the contractor is responsible for the performance o

19、f all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract, the contractor may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements, specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the ri

21、99906 0355647 T H MIL-P-70539 (AR) 4.2 Classification of inspections. The f.llowing types of inspection shall be conducted on the unit product: a. Preproduction Sample Inspection b. Quality Conformance Inspection. 4.3 Preproduction sample (pilot lots). The preproduction sample is intended to provide

22、 the necessary information to establish the propellant granulation needed to meet the required ballistic parameters. 4.3.1 Submission. The Contractor shall select propellant granulations for approval by Government Engineering and Product Assurance, which, from experience, are expected to bracket the

23、 requirements of this specification. The contractor shall submit a preproduction sample as designated by the Contracting Officer for evaluation in accordance with 4.3.2, usually consisting of up to three pilot lots of approximately 3000 lb each, representing each of the candidate granulations. 4.3.2

24、 Inspections to be performed. Each of the pilot lots comprising the preproduction sample and submitted in accordance with 4.3,l may be subjected by the Government to anyor all of the requirements of the applicable drawings and specifications. 4.3.3 Rejection. Government Engineering and Product Assur

25、ance personnel and the Contractor shall review the pilot lot test data and shall select a granulation which best fits the requirements of this specification. The Technical Agency shall notify the Contracting Officer of the selected granulation. The Contracting Officer shall designate the preproducti

26、on sample as acceptable and shall authorize the Contractor to produce the selected granulation for regular production. If the pilot lots submitted fail to meet or bracket the requirements of this specification, a new preproduction sample shall be submitted in accordance with 4.3.1. Until the preprod

27、uction sample is designated acceptable, the Contractor is in no way authorized by the Government to initiate regular production, unless otherwise directed by the Contracting Officer. A11 future production lots should be of the same basic granulation as the selected granulation authorized for regular

28、 production. 4.4 Quality conformance inspection. 4.4.1 Inspection lot formation. 29、-P-70S39 (AR) 4.4.2 Examination and testiriqi PRECAUTION - This specificatiori covers sampling and testing of chemical, toxic or explosive materials which are potentially hazardous to personnel. Accordid$iY, it is emphasized that all applicable safety rules, regulations and procedures must be follow

30、ed in handling and processing these materials. . 4.4.2.1 Sampling for laboratory testing (see 3.1). Each lot of propellant shall be sampled and testd for composition form, dimensions and chemical/physical properties in accordance with MIL-STD-652. (see 6.4) 4.4.2.2 Samplinq for baliistic testing (se

31、e 3.2). Each lof of propellant shall be cambled for Proving Ground tests in accordance with MIL-STD-652. 4.4.2.3 Charqe establishment (see 3.2) If the lot does not meet the applicable requirements, testing shall cease and the Test Director shall immediately not if y the procuring activity . 4.4.2.4

32、Velocity uniformity (7O0F) (see 3.3.1). If the product of the factor (-73 for initial production, .69 for subsequent production) times the velocity standard deviatin of the rounds tested in accordance with 4.5.1.2 exceeds the applicable requirement, apply refkral criteria in accordance with 4.5.1.4.

33、 shall be rejected. The factor makes allowande for the probability that a standard deviation from a sri-igller sample size xceeds th true standard deviation by chance Alone. The standard deviation shall be calculated with (n-i) as the divisor in a standard statistical technique equivalent to that sh

34、own in NIL-STD-414. If the referral criteria cited do not apply, the lot 4.4.2.5 Averaqe pressure (see 3.3.2). If the dveragg pressure obtained exceeds the applicable re uireirlents, apply criteria cited do not apply, the lot shall b- irejectede any individual pressure observed during the uniformity

35、 kkies, when corrected to standard conditions and recommended 70F, + 2.50F, 1450F, -50F. Copper crusher gages (2) shall be used to measure the maximum chamber pressure of each charge. Velocity coils will be used to measure the muzzle velocity of each charge. Test charges shall be assembled in accord

36、ance with drawing 9282042 and MIL-C-48360. 4.5.1.1 Charqe establishment (see Table I) 4.5.1.1.1 Charge slope method. Three or more groups of rounds loaded with selected charge weights of propellant (weights selected should bracket expected service charge weight) shall be conditioned and fired at 7OO

37、F. Three calibration rounds shall also be conditioned and fired at 700F, prior to the test rounds. From the data obtained, a charge weight shall be calculated which will yield the prescribed service velocity (see 3.2). This calculated charge weight shall then be loaded into rounds for the uniformity

38、 series (see 4.5.1.2). The difference between the corrected velocity obtained during the uniformity series and the service velocity shall be compensated for by a final adjustment in charge weight using the slope of the velocity charge weight curve previously established. The resultant will be the re

39、commended charge weight . 4.5.1.1.2 Constant slope method. After ten (10) lots of a given production series have been fired to provide a good knowledge of the propellant characteristics, the charge slope method of assessment may be discontinued and the charge weight determined by the constant slope

40、method. A composite charge weight versus velocity curve and charge weight versus pressure curve can be established from test results generated. This curve can then be used as in 4.5.1.1.1 to calculate the charge weight needed to achieve service velocity. This calculated charge weight is then to be l

41、oaded into charges for the uniformity series and final adjustment is to be made as indicated above for the charge slope method (see 4.5.1.1.1). Thirty (30) charges shall be e assembled with the calculated charge weight (see 4.5.1.1.1) of propellant. Ten charges each shall be conditioned to -GOOF, 700F, and 1450F (as

43、 indicated by thermo-coupled control charge). Charges fired at 700F shall be fired alternately with calibration charges and shall be corrected to standard shall be corrected to standard projectile weight (see 4.5.1) and to recommended charge weight conditions (i.e., the difference between calculated

44、 (as fired) charge weight and recommended charge weight). The means and standard deviations of the velocities and pressures at all firing temperatures shall be calculated usinq corrected results. The initial production lots represent the first three consecutive lots from each manufacturer which have

45、 been produced and met the acceptance criteria of this spec i f i cat i on . a weapon/firing conditions. Firing results at all temperatures 4.5.1.2.2 Subsequent production. Fourteen (14) charges shall be assembled with the established charse weisht of propellant. 1450F (as indicated by thermocoupled

46、 control round). Charges fired at 70OF shall be fired alternately with calibration charges and shall be corrected to standard weapon/firing conditions (i.e., the difference between calibration performance under test conditions and standard conditions). Firing results at both temperatures shall be co

47、rrected to standard projectile weight (see 4.5.1) and to recommended charge weight conditions (i.e., the difference between as fired charge weight and recommended charge weight). The means and standard deviations of the velocities and pressures at both firing temperatures shall be calculated using c

48、orrected results. Seven charges each shall be conditioned to 700F and e 4.5.1.3 Retest criteria. A lot shall be retested whenever any of the following conditions exist or whenever the proving ground deems it necessary. a. The final adjustment in charge weight exceeds 1.0 ozs of the charge weight use

49、d in uniformity firings, retest for uniformity in accordance with 4.5.1.2. b. If for any reason, the Proving Ground considers that test conditions have detrimentally affected the test results, additional charges as required shall be tested. the procuring activity for disposition whenever any of the following conditions exist or whenever the proving ground deems it necessary. 4.5.1.4 Referral criteria.
