2、gencies. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This commercial item description (CID) covers a 36 inch long machinists and toolmakers straightedge, not graduated, semi-hard, with one edge beveled and one edge square, for general machine shops. 1.2 Intended use. The steel straightedge is intended for use in general sh

3、op practice and to lay out lines and check surfaces on ordinary shop jobs. 2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS 2.1 Design and construction. All surfaces of the straightedge shall be flat and parallel with the opposite surface. Except for one edge of the straightedge, the ends and working edges of each straig

4、htedge shall be squared (90 degrees 5 5 minutes) for the full thickness. One edge of the straightedge shall be uniformly beveled and squared for the full width of the land. The straightedge shall be made of corrosive resistant steel. These requirements, and the hardness, shall be as specified in tab

5、le I when tested as specified in 4.2 and 4.3. Straightedges shall be of the dimensions and within the tolerances specified

The straightedges shall be marked for identification with the manufacturers name or readily identifiable trademark; 2.4 Finish. All the surfaces of the straightedge shall be polished. 2.5 Workmanshi 9. All

9、surfaces of the straightedge shall be smooth with no burrs, sharp edges, cracks, gouges, grind chatter, or bum marks. 2.6 Metric produ cts. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound Units, provided they fall within the to

10、lerances specified using conversion tables contained in the latest revision of ASTM E 380, and all other requirements of this CID are met. If a product is manufactured to metric dimensions and those dimensions exceed the tolerances specified in the inch-pound units, a request should be made to the c

11、ontracting officer to determine if the product is acceptable. The contracting officer has the option of accepting or rejecting the product. 3 REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Contractor-recovered materials. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable,

12、 in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS , 4.1 Product conformance. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this commercial item description, conform to the producers own drawings, specifications, standa

13、rds and quality assurance practices, and be the same product that has been sold in the commercial market. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract. 2 - . - . . .

The company producing the item must have been producing a product meeting the requirements of this

15、 CID for at least 2 years. b. The company must have sold 500 units meeting this CID, in the commercial or government marketplace over the past 2 years. 4.2 Hardness test. The straightedge shall be tested for hardness at the center and 1 inch from each end, in accordance with ASTM E 18, as specified

16、(see 2.1 and 2.2). 4.3 Sauareness. flatness and parallelism tests. Utilizing standard gauges, indicators, and toolmakers surface plates, the straightedges shall be tested for squareness and flatness of surfaces and for the parallelism of opposite surfaces, as specified in 2.1 and 2.2. Any nonconform

17、ance shall constitute failure of this test. 5 PACKAGING 5.1 Packaping Preservation, packing and marking requirements shall be as specified in the contract or purchase order (see 6.1) 6.
