5、a experienced in the 1950s. One art critic defined Pop art as popular, low-cost, young, mass-produced and sexy. Warhol is one of the most famous Pop artists. From the introduction of him, we can see what proposals a pop art holds for his/her art. One of Warhols first exhibits was in 1962. He created

6、 thirty-two paintings of red and white soup cans. These paintings shook the art world. The soup cans looked like the soup produced by one of Americas most popular food companies, Campbells. This method of reproduction permitted the artist to make many images very quickly. He would often repeat the same picture many times in one artwork. He liked th

9、e idea of mass produced art. He once said that he thought everyone should think alike and be like a machine. In fact, the place where he created his art was called The Factory. He had many assistants who helped him produce his art. Warhol explored many other subjects. For example, he made a series o

10、f paintings on death and disaster. These works showed images of car accidents and executions. He also made pictures of famous people such as the actress Marilyn Monroe and the singer Elvis Presley. Warhol was very interested in fame. He celebrated famous people and they celebrated him. 13、r, publisher, and manager of a rock band. For example, he produced several low budget art films in the early nineteen sixties. One was called “Empire“. It showed a filmed image of the Empire State Building in New York City. The film was eight hours long. In the movie “Sleep“, Warhol recorded a frien

14、d sleeping. The film lasts six hours. When asked about the uneventful nature of these films, Warhol answered that he liked boring or uninteresting things. In the middle 1960s, Warhol also managed a rock band called The Velvet Underground. He helped produce one of their records and designed the cover

15、 of the album. Another of Warhols projects was the creation of “Interview“ magazine. This magazine covered many kinds of American popular culture. Andy Warhol was able to interview the kinds of people he liked best, famous people. A colorful drawing of a famous person was on the cover of every issue

16、 of the magazine. The image was drawn in the style of Warhols paintings. In 1968, Andy Warhol was shot by a woman who had been in one of his films. 20、he Andy Warhol Museum opened in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This museum is in a large industrial building. Hundreds of thousands of pound-conscious Americans had discovered that a drug combination known as “fen-phen“ could shut off vor

41、acious appetites like magic, and the FDA had just approved a new drug, Redux, that did the same with fewer side effects. Redux would attract hundreds of thousands of new pill poppers within a few months. But now the diet-drug revolution is facing a backlash. Some of the nations largest HMOs, includi

42、ng Aetna U.S. Healthcare and Prudential Healthcare, have begun cutting back or eliminating reimbursement for both pills. Diet chains like Jenny Craig and Nutri-System are backing away from them too. Several states, meanwhile, have restricted the use of fen-phen, last week the Florida legislature ban

43、ned new prescriptions entirely and called on doctors to wean current patients from the drug within 30 days; it also put a 90-day limit on Redux prescriptions. Even New Jersey doctor Sheldon Levine, who touted Redux last year on TV and in his book The Redux Revolution, has stopped giving it to all bu

44、t his most obese patients. The reason for all the retrenchment: potentially lethal side effects. Over the summer, the FDA revealed that 82 patients had developed detects in their heart valves while on fen-phen, and that seven patients had come down with the same condition on Redux. As if that werent

45、 bad enough, physicians reported that a woman who had been taking fen-phen for less than a month died of primary pulmonary hypertension, a fatal lung condition already associated with Redux. And an article in the Journal of the American Medical Association last month confirmed earlier reports that b

46、oth fen-phen and Redux can cause brain damage in lab animals. These findings led the New England Journal to publish an editorial admonishing doctors to prescribe the drugs only for patients with severe obesity. Meanwhile, FDA asked drug makers to put more explicit warnings on fen-phen and Redux labe

47、ls. Since mid-July, prescriptions for fen-phen have dropped 56%, and those for Redux 36%, according to IMS America, a pharmaceutical-market research firm. All that really does, however, is to bring the numbers down to where they should have been all along. Manufacturers said from the start that thei

48、r pills offered a short-term therapy for the obese, not for people looking to fit into a smaller bathing suit. FDA approved Redux with just such a caveat, and when limited to these patients, the drugs may still make sense-despite the risks-because morbid obesity carries its own dangers, including heart disease, diabetes and stroke. Too often, however, Redux and fen-phen were peddled to all comers, almost like candy. The current backlash, says Levine, is a “roller coaster t
