The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical commi

16、ttees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the I

17、nternational Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization. International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2. The main task of technical committees is to prepare International Standards. Draft Internationa

18、l Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an International Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a vote. In other circumstances, particularly when there is an urgent market requirement for such do

20、e parent committee casting a vote; an ISO Technical Specification (ISO/TS) represents an agreement between the members of a technical committee and is accepted for publication if it is approved by 2/3 of the members of the committee casting a vote. An ISO/PAS or ISO/TS is reviewed after three years

21、in order to decide whether it will be confirmed for a further three years, revised to become an International Standard, or withdrawn. If the ISO/PAS or ISO/TS is confirmed, it is reviewed again after a further three years, at which time it must either be transformed into an International Standard or

22、 be withdrawn. Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent rights. International standards, which specify requirements for validation and routine control of sterilization processes, requ

33、ire, when it is necessary to supply a sterile medical device, that adventitious microbiological contamination of a medical device prior to sterilization be minimized. Even so, medical devices produced under standard manufacturing conditions in accordance with the requirements for quality management

34、systems (see, for example, ISO 13485) or which have been subjected to a cleaning process as part of their reprocessing in a health care establishment, may, prior to sterilization, have microorganisms on them, albeit in low numbers. Such products are non-sterile. The purpose of sterilization is to in

35、activate the microbiological contaminants and thereby transform the non-sterile products into sterile ones. This Technical Specification is intended to be used in the preparation or revision of standards that include aspects of sterilization of health care products. The aim of this Technical Specifi

36、cation is to promote a coherent approach to the description of sterilization activities and harmonize the use of terminology in the field of sterilization technology. In the preparation or revision of a standard that includes sterilization technology, first consideration should be given to the defin

37、itions within this Technical Specification. However, it may be necessary to deviate from the exact wording to meet the needs of a specific application, for example by the addition of an explanatory note. In this case, the terminology used should not be in conflict with this Technical Specification a

38、nd the rationale for the deviation should be made clear to the user. This is a generic Technical Specification, compiled to encompass the general field of sterilization technology, and not to replace established terms in specific applications. La prsente Spcification technique est destine tre utilise dans la prparation ou la rvision de normes comprenant des aspects de la strilisation des produits de sant.
