Durch die seit den 1970erJahren stndig verschrften Vorschriften zur Luftrein-haltung und die Weiterentwicklung der Adsorbentien

38、sowie die Nutzung der Adsorptionskatalyse wurdenneue Anwendungsgebiete erschlossen 1; 2.3.1 Wesen und Grundbegriffe der AdsorptionIm Anwendungsbereich dieser Richtlinie bedeutetAdsorption die Anlagerung von Gas- oder Dampfmo-leklen (Adsorptiv) an der inneren Oberflche eineshochporsen Feststoffes (Ad

39、sorbens), wie in Bild 1dargestellt. Hier befinden sich Atome oder Atom-gruppen, deren Bindungskrfte nicht durch benach-barte Atome abgesttigt sind. An solchen Stellen mitfreien Valenzen (aktive Zentren) lassen sich Mole-kle aus der Gasphase anlagern, die im adsorbiertenZustand als Adsorpt bezeichnet

40、 werden. Die gesamteGrenzflchenphase nennt man Adsorbat. Theknowledge about the adsorptive effect of charcoalwas first put to commercial use in 1794 for decolour-isation in a sugar refinery in En

43、gland. The first com-mercial-scale plants for the production of activatedcarbon were built around 1900. After the develop-ment of the Bayer process in 1916 for organic vapouradsorption from exhaust air followed by steam des-orption, activated carbon found wide use in solventrecovery and town gas cle

44、aning applications. Thestringent air pollution control regulations enforcedsince the 1970s in conjunction with the further devel-opment of the adsorbents and the exploitation of ad-sorption catalysis have opened the door to new appli-cations 1; 2.3.1 Adsorption mechanism and general concepts For the

45、 purposes of this guideline, adsorption is de-fined as the attachment of gas or vapour molecules(adsorptive) to the inner surface of a highly poroussolid (adsorbent) as illustrated in Figure 1. On theinner surface, there are atoms and atom groups whosebonding forces are not saturated by neighbouring

46、 at-oms. These sites with free valences (active sites) canbind foreign molecules which, in the adsorbed condi-tion, are referred to as adsorpt. The total interphaseboundary is referred to as adsorbate. Desorption des-ignates the reversal of the adsorption process, i.e. theexpulsion of the adsorbed m
