8、f turbine type water flowmeters for fireprotection service of Type I, Type II or Type III construction.1.2 The following items are outside the scope of these requirements:a) Materials and construction of the register;b) Evaluation of the by-pass components, including the by-pass meter if provided, e

9、xcept forbody leakage and strength of body;c) Potability and;d) Stationary static gaskets, such as cover gaskets and ring gaskets used between flanges.2 Components2.1 Except as indicated in 2.2, a component of a product covered by this Outline shall comply with therequirements for that component.2.2

10、 A component is not required to comply with a specific requirement that:a) Involves a feature or characteristic not required in the application of the component in theproduct covered by this Outline; orb) Is superseded by a requirement in this Outline.2.3 A component shall be used in accordance with

16、ough the main body.3.4 TYPE II METER A meter assembly with a by-pass line consisting of:a) A detector type valve that remains closed under low water flow conditions and diverts thelow flow through;b) A bypass meter;c) A Strainer; andd) A main line turbine meter located in the main body that allows h

19、s outline shall beinterpreted as referring to the latest edition of that code or standard.CONSTRUCTION6 General6.1 The meter is to be designed and constructed to comply with the applicable portions of the AmericanWater Works Association (AWWA) Standard for Cold-Water Meters Fire Service Type, AWWA C

20、703,including body materials and by-pass meters.7 Sizes7.1 A meter shall be constructed for use with standard pipe of size (NPS), 3 NPS or larger.7.2 Meter sizes refer to the nominal diameter of the waterway through the inlet and outlet connectionsand to the pipe size for which the connections are i

21、ntended.8 Rated Pressure8.1 A meter shall be constructed for a minimum rated pressure of 175 psig.9 Nonmetallic Materials9.1 A plastic or other nonmetallic part, other than rubber parts such as seals and O rings, is to bejudged on the basis of:a) Mechanical strength;b) Water absorption;c) Resistance

24、 for Check Valves for Fire-Protection Service, UL312.10.2 Type I and Type II meters with integral detector check valves shall comply with the applicablerequirements of the Standard for Check Valves for Fire-Protection Service, UL 312.11 Strainers11.1 For meters that require strainers, strainers shal

25、l comply with the Outline of Investigation for PipelineStrainers, Subject 321.11.2 Meters with integral strainers shall be permitted if the strainer portion of the device complies with theapplicable requirements of the Outline of Investigation for Pipeline Strainers, Subject 321.PERFORMANCE12 Genera

26、l12.1 Representative samples of meters are to be subjected to the tests described in these requirements.Test bars of metal used in castings and additional samples of parts constructed of nonmetallic material,such as rubber seals, are required for physical and chemical tests.13 Nonmetallic Materials

27、Test13.1 Plastic or other nonmetallic parts (excluding rubber and synthetic elastomers)13.1.1 Air oven aging13.1.1.1 After air-oven aging for 90 days at 100 1C (212 2F), there shall be no warping, creeping,cracking, or other evidence of deterioration of a plastic (or other like material) component w

28、hich mayimpair the intended operation of the meter and the Izod impact strength shall not be reduced by more than30 percent. Additionally, a meter with aged plastic (or other like material) components shall comply withthe requirements in the Calibration Test, Section 17.13.1.1.2 The Izod impact stre

29、ngth tests are to be conducted in the as received and aged conditions inaccordance with Standard Test Methods for Determining the Izod Pendulum Impact Resistance ofPlastics, ASTM D256.13.1.1.3 If a material cannot withstand the temperature specified in 13.1.1.1 without excessive softening,distortion

30、, or deterioration, an air-oven aging test at a lower temperature for a longer period of time maybe applied. 32、ng air oven that has beenpreheated at full draft to 100 1C (212 2F). Rubber seats or O rings may be included or excluded atthe manufacturers option. Samples are to be supported so that they do not touch one another or the sidesof the oven. The samples are to be aged for 90 days, at full draft, and t

33、hen allowed to cool in air at 232C (73 4F) for at least 4 hours before any test or dimensional check is conducted. Prior to any tests,rubber parts complying with the requirements in 13.2.1 and 13.2.2 are to be installed in the meter, if theyare not included in the aging test. As used in this test, t

34、he term full draft refers to the air flow over thesamples in the oven with air inlet and outlet full open. The oven used for accelerated aging is to be TypeIIA as specified in the Standard Specification for Gravity-Convection and Forced-Ventilation Ovens, ASTME145.13.1.2 Water aging13.1.2.1 After im

35、mersion in tap water at 87 2C (188 4F) for 90 days, there shall be no warping,creeping, cracking, or other signs of deterioration of a plastic (or other like) component which may impairthe intended operation of the meter and the izod impact strength shall not be reduced by more than 30percent. Addit

36、ionally, a meter with aged components shall comply with the requirements in the CalibrationTest, Section 17.13.1.2.2 If a material cannot withstand the temperature specified in 13.1.2.1 without excessive softening,distortion, or deterioration, a water aging test at a lower temperature for a longer p

37、eriod of time may beapplied. The duration of exposure is to be calculated from the following formula:D = (37,000)e-0.0693tin which:D is the exposure duration in days, andt is the test temperature, degrees C.13.2 Elastomeric parts (excluding gaskets)13.2.1 An elastomeric part used to provide a seal s

38、hall have the following properties when tested asspecified in the Standard for Gaskets and Seals, UL 157:a) For silicone rubber (having poly-organo-siloxane as its constituent characteristic), aminimum tensile strength of 500 psi (3.4 MPa) and a minimum ultimate elongation of 100percent.b) For natur

39、al rubber and synthetic rubber other than silicone rubber, a minimum tensilestrength of 1500 psi (10.3 MPa) and minimum ultimate elongation of 150 percent; or a minimumtensile strength of 2200 psi (15.2 MPa) and a minimum ultimate elongation of 100 percent.c) Those properties relating to maximum ten

40、sile set, minimum tensile strength and elongationafter oven aging, and hardness after oven aging, all as specified in UL 157. 41、UTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL13.2.2 The Standard for Gaskets and Seals, UL 157, provides for the testing of either finished elastomericparts or sheet or slab material. Sheet or slab material is to be tested when the elastomeric parts areO-rings having d

42、iameters of less then 1 inch (25.4 mm). The material tested is to be the same as that usedin the product, regardless of whether finished elastomeric parts or sheet or slab material is tested.14 Leakage Test14.1 A meter assembly shall withstand, without leakage of all bodies, joints and piping, an in

43、ternalhydrostatic pressure of two times the rated pressure of the meter.14.2 The meter assembly, including by-pass components and by-pass meter if provided, shall besubjected to the internal hydrostatic pressure applied for 1 minute.15 Hydrostatic Test15.1 A meter assembly shall withstand a test pre

44、ssure equal to four times the rated pressure withoutrupture.15.2 The meter assembly used in the Leakage Test shall be subjected to the internal hydrostatic pressureapplied for 5 minutes.16 Hydraulic Friction Loss Test16.1 A meter shall have a friction loss not exceeding the values in Table 16.1 at f

46、t a flow rate thatwill result in a velocity of 16 feet per second based uponthe open area in Schedule 40 pipe of the same nominalsize as the valve.16.2 The sample meter assembly is to be installed in its intended position in a test piping system. Thetest line is to be equipped with a calibrated flow

47、 meter or equivalent means by which selected rates of flowcan be established. A differential pressure measuring device is to be connected to piezometer fittingslocated upstream and downstream from the test meter by means of which the loss-of-head between theJANUARY 25, 2011 SUBJECT 327 9UL COPYRIGHT

Selected flow rates are to be established and the loss-of-headover the meter plus that over the piping between piezometers for each rate of flow is to be calculated

49、 fromthe pressure measuring device reading.16.3 The sample meter then is to be removed from the test piping and the loss-of-head for test pipinglocated between the piezometer fittings is to be determined for the same rates of flow. The loss-of-headfor the meter then is to be determined by subtracting the losses over the piping along from the losses overthe piping and meter.17 Calibration TestSection 17 effective January 25, 201317.1 The error of Type I and Type II flowmeters, when not flowing through the by-pass and Type IIImeters at any flow r
