These requirement

7、s are intended to evaluate a hip or ridge ventsresistance to:a) Flame spread due to exposure to fire sources external to a building;b) Flame penetration resulting in flaming droplets; andc) Resistance to water infiltration to the interior attic space.1.2 Class A hip or ridge vents are considered eff

8、ective against severe fire test exposures. Under suchexposures, shingles of this class, afford a high degree of fire protection to the roof deck, do not sip fromposition, and are not expected to produce flying brands.1.3 Class B hip or ridge vents are considered effective against moderate fire test

9、exposures. Under suchexposures, shingles of this class, afford a moderate degree of fire protection to the roof deck, do not slipfrom position, and are not expected to produce flying brands.1.4 Class C hip or ridge vents are considered effective against light fire test exposures. Under suchexposures

10、, shingles of this class, afford a light degree of fire protection to the roof deck, do not slip fromposition, and are not expected to produce flying brands.1.5 Fire tests conducted in accordance with these requirements are intended to demonstrate theperformance of hip or ridge vents during the type

11、s and periods of exposure involved, but are not intendedto determine the acceptability of hip or ridge vents for use after exposure to fire. These fire test methodsdo not provide a basis to compare expected performance under all actual fire conditions but they doprovide a basis for comparison of the

12、 response of hip or ridge vents when subjected to fire sources thatare described herein.1.6 Hip or Ridge vents complying with the requirements for wind-driven rain are not expected to withstandthe wind forces of tornadoes, cyclones, or hurricanes.1.7 Hip or Ridge vents are required to comply also wi

13、th the requirements for construction, materialspecifications, and performance as applicable to specific types, designs, sizes, and arrangements. Allsuch applicable additional requirements are not considered to be within the scope of these requirementsfor fire and wind-driven rain tests, but are incl

15、are explanatory orapproximate information.PERFORMANCE3 General3.1 Representative samples of ridge vents shall be subjected to the following tests:a) One Spread of Flame Test;b) One Burning Brand Test; andc) One Wind Driven Rain Test.4 Preparation of Samples4.1 Spread of flame test samples4.1.1 Sprea

16、d of flame test deck construction and conditioning4.1.1.1 Representative samples of ridge vents are to be applied, as described in 4.1.2, Application ofshingles and ridge vents, to test decks constructed as specified in 4.1.1.2.4.1.1.2 The spread of flame fire test deck is to consist of plywood fast

17、ened to trade size 2- by 4-innominal 1-1/2 by 3-1/2 in (38.1 by 89 mm) battens. The battens are to be placed along each side of thetest deck, with the long dimension of the battens perpendicular to the plywood, leaving a 1-3/4 in (44.4mm) overhang of the plywood on one end. Additional battens, perpe

18、ndicular to the two battens along eachside of the deck, are to be used when required for additional support. The test deck dimensions are asfollows:a) Class A shingles and ridge vent test deck 40 in (1.02 m) wide by 8 ft (2.4 m) long;b) Class B shingles and ridge vent test deck 40 in (1.02 m) wide b

20、.2.1 Ridge vents of the same composition and Class rating as the ridge vents to be evaluated are tobe applied to the test deck in accordance with the manufacturers installation instructions. Shingles of atleast the same Class rating as the ridge vents to be evaluated shall be used to construct the t

21、est deck.The long dimension of the shingles for the deck are to be oriented diagonally from bottom-left toupper-right with the ridge vent placed along the approximate diagonal center of the test deck. 24、s of ridge vents are to be applied, as described in 4.2.2, Application ofshingles and ridge vents to test decks constructed as specified in 4.2.1.2.4.2.1.2 The ridge test deck is to consist of plywood, tightly matched sheathing boards, or equivalentdecking material, constructed to simulate a roof ri

25、dge. The ridge test deck is to be 50 in (1.27 m) wideand 66 in (1.68 m) long in plan view. The ridge is to be centered on the test decks and the incline on eitherside of the ridge is to be approximately 3 in (76.2 mm) to the horizontal foot. There shall be a 3/41in(19 25.4 mm) gap at the ridge peak

26、between the two opposite roof deck panels. The basic burning brandtest deck construction is illustrated in Figure 4.2. The basic wind driven rain test deck construction isillustrated in Figures 4.3 and 4.4. The test decks are to be of such rigidity that they will not twist or distortduring handling.

30、s and ridge vents4.2.2.1 Ridge vents of the same composition and Class rating as the ridge vents to be evaluated are tobe applied to the test deck in accordance with the manufacturers installation instructions. Theapplication is to be such that specified exposures are maintained and, where applicable, all interlockingmechanisms are in place.4.3 Conditioning4.3.1 Self-sealing hip and ridge shingles4.3.1.1 Self sealing shingles are to be applied to the test panel while at room temper

32、ature of 27 8C (8015F) and in accordance with the installation instructions. The bottom of the test panel is to remainparallel with the floor during application of the hip and ridge shingles. No adhesive other than thefactory-applied adhesive is to be used to fasten down the tabs, and no pressure is

33、 to be applied to the hipand ridge shingle tables either during or after application.4.3.1.2 The test panel, following preparation, is to be maintained so that the bottom of the test panelremains parallel to the floor and at room temperature.4.3.1.3 The panel is to be placed in the conditioning cell

34、 while the bottom of the test deck remains parallelto the floor and at a temperature of 57 60C (135 140F) for a continuous period 16 h. Afterconditioning, the test panel is to cool to room temperature while the bottom of the test panel remainsparallel to the floor. The test panels are to be handled

35、such that the shingle tabs are not disturbed andsuch that the panels are not twisted or distorted.4.3.2 Interlocking hip and ridge shingles4.3.2.1 Interlocking shingles are to be applied in accordance with the installation instructions. Theshingles at the outer edge of the test panel are to be secur

36、ed by exposed nailing to simulate anchoringat the rake edges of a roof deck.4.3.2.2 The test panels are to be maintained with the bottom of the test deck parallel to the floor and atroom temperature. Although not required for interlocking shingles, conditioning as described in 4.3.1.3 isto be implem

38、bjected to an air current that flowsuniformly over the top surface of the roof covering material, as determined by a pretest calibration of theequipment using a bare 3-1/3 by 4-1/3 ft (1 by 1.3 m) plywood, gypsum- or cement-board deck. At pointsmidway up the incline of the bare deck, with the deck p

39、ositioned at an incline of 5 in (127 mm) to thehorizontal foot (0.3 m), the velocity of the air current is to be 12 1/2 mph (19 0.8 km/h), as measuredaat the center and at each of two locations measured 3 in (76 mm) from each edge of the deck, with eachmeasurement being 3-11/16 in (94 mm) above the

40、surface of the deck. Adjusting the time averaged aircurrent velocity at each location by up to 5% from the initial measurements is not prohibited in order tocomply with the flame pattern description (see 5.2) so long as the average velocity of all three locationsis 12 0.5 mph (5.3 0.2 m/s).aAny dire

41、ct reading instrument with scale graduated in increments of not more than 20 ft/min (6 m/min) or any timed instrument withscale graduated (for a 1-min timed reading) in increments of not more than 5 ft/min (1.5 m/min) is acceptable.5.2 The test deck then is to be subjected to a luminous gas flame ap

42、proximately 3 ft (0.9 m) wide at theleading edge of the deck, and gradually narrowing to a width of approximately 6 in (150 mm) at the topof the deck. Licks of flame that extend approximately an additional 1 to 2 ft (0.3 to 0.6 m) are notprohibited. The gas supply is to be regulated so that the flam

43、e, if not augmented by combustion of theroof covering, develops a temperature of 760 28C (1400 50F) for a Class A or B test, and 704 28C(1300 50F) for a Class C testb. The temperature is to be determined by a No. 14 Bb) The roof deck be exposed by breaking, sliding, cracking or warping of the ridge

44、vent; orc) Portions of the ridge vent fall away in the form of glowing particles or flaming molten dropletsas viewed from the underside of the ridge vent.With respect to (b), the deck is exposed whenever any portion of the deck is visible and without cover fromthe roof covering material or its resid

45、ue. The portion of deck directly underneath burning brands andcracks or fissures, 1/8 in (3.17 mm) wide or less, is excluded from this requirement.8.2 For the purpose of the requirements of item (a) of 8.1, any piece of the ridge vent that continues toglow or flame upon landing on the test room floo

46、r is a glowing or flaming brand, respectively.8.3 At no time during the Burning-Brand Tests, Section 6, shall there be sustained flaming of theunderside of the deck. Sustained flaming is considered any flaming which continues uninterrupted for 5 sor more.8.4 During the Spread of Flame Test, Section

47、5, the flaming of the material shall not have spread beyond6 ft (1.8 m) for Class A, 8 ft (2.4 m) for Class B, and 13 ft (3.9 m) (the top of the deck) for Class C. Thereshall have been no significant lateral spread of flame from the path directly exposed to the test flame.Significant lateral spread
