12、FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULINTRODUCTION1 Scope1.1 These requirements cover ultraviolet curing equipment rated at 240 V or less for professionalcommercial indoor use in a dedicated, isolated, or restricted area, accessed only by qualified professionaloperators.1.2 T

13、hese products are intended for use in accordance with the Federal Radiation Control for Health andSafety Act of 1968, the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, and the Code of Federal Regulations, Part1040, 21 CFR, Chapter 1, Subchapter J, Radiological Health.1.3 These products are intended only for

14、use in a restricted access area, or an area which incorporatessuitable site protection to prevent unintended exposure of untrained or unqualified persons to ultravioletradiation. It is the responsibility of the designated parties at the final installation site to confirm that properinstallation, tra

15、ining and control means have been implemented.1.4 These products are intended to be operated only in the presence of qualified professional operatorswho have been trained on mandatory operation procedures for proper use of the equipment.1.5 The physiological effects of the ultraviolet radiation emit

16、ted by this equipment have not beenevaluated. The physiological effects of substances used in lamps employed in these products have notbeen evaluated. Compatibility of the curing equipment with materials and the physiological effects of anyby-products of the curing process have not been evaluated.1.

17、6 These requirements do not cover electric heating or drying equipment. Such equipment is covered inthe Standard for Electric Heating Appliances, UL 499, and Electrical Equipment for Laboratory Use: Part1: General Requirements, UL 61010A-1.2 Components2.1 Except as indicated in 2.2, a component of a

18、 product covered by this outline of investigation shallcomply with the requirements for that component. See Appendix A for a list of standards coveringcomponents generally used in the products covered by this outline of investigation.2.2 A component is not required to comply with a specific requirem

24、dV is the volume in cubic centimeters.5.3 CRITICAL FAILURE A failure of a component or circuit that results in a condition, such as a riskof fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.5.4 DEACTIVATED LAMP A lamp in the end-of-life failure mode, resulting from the depletion of thefilament emission ma

25、terial so that the lamp cannot be ionized.5.5 HIGH-PRESSURE LAMP A lamp in which the Contained Atmospheric Energy (CAE) equals orexceeds 3.7 lbf-ft (5 J) cold at (50C (122F) or less).5.6 IRRADIANCE The radiant-power-incident on a surface at a specified location and orientationrelative to the radiati

26、ng surface, divided by the area of the surface, as the area becomes vanishinglysmall, expressed in units of watts per square centimeter (W/cm2) or watts per square inch (W/in2).5.7 MEDIUM-PRESSURE LAMP A lamp in which the Contained Atmospheric Energy (CAE) isgreater than 0.37 lbf-ft (0.5 J) and less

27、 than 3.7 lbf-ft (5 J).5.8 MEASUREMENT INDICATION UNIT (MIU) The output voltage across the leakage-current meter,in mV divided by 500 ohms. The instrument indication is equal to the rms value in mA when thefrequency is 60 Hz (sinusoidal current). The reading may not be a direct indication of the rms

30、e both of the following apply:a) Access can only be gained by service personnel or qualified professional operators whohave been instructed about the reasons for the restrictions applied to the location and about theprecautions that must be taken; andb) Access is controlled through effective means o

31、f security by the authority responsible for thelocation.5.11 SPECTRAL TRANSMITTANCE The spectral irradiance transmitted through protective eyeweardivided by the spectral irradiance incident on the protective eyewear.5.12 ULTRAVIOLET CURING EQUIPMENT Equipment that directly generates ultraviolet radi

32、ation forthe purpose of curing paint, primer, or similar ultraviolet-sensitive compounds.5.13 USER See Qualified Professional Operator (5.9).CONSTRUCTION6 General6.1 Equipment intended for use in a Hazardous Location as defined in the National Electrical Code(NEC), NFPA 70, shall comply with the req

33、uirements in this Outline of Investigation and additionalexamination and tests to determine acceptability for use in Hazardous Locations.6.2 Only materials that are acceptable for the particular use shall be used in this equipment. Ultravioletcuring equipment shall be made and finished with the degr

34、ee of uniformity and grade of workmanshippracticable in a well-equipped factory.7 Frame and Enclosure7.1 General7.1.1 The frame and enclosure of ultraviolet curing equipment shall be constructed to resist the abusesencountered during intended use. The construction shall preclude total and partial co

35、llapse with theattendant reduction of spacings, loosening or displacement of parts, and other defects, which alone or incombination constitute a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.7.1.2 The equipment shall be provided with an enclosure of material acceptable for the application. Thee

37、mong the factors to be considered when determining the acceptability of an enclosure are:a) Physical strength;b) Resistance to impact;c) Moisture-absorptive properties;d) Flammability;e) Resistance to corrosion;f) Resistance to distortion at temperatures to which the enclosure is subjected under con

38、ditionsof intended use;g) For a nonmetallic enclosure exposed to ultraviolet radiation, resistance to degradation fromexposure to ultraviolet radiation;h) For a nonmetallic enclosure, all of the factors are to be considered with respect to thermalaging; andi) For a sheet-metal enclosure, in addition

39、 to the factors in (a) (f), the size and shape of themetal, the thickness of the metal, and the conditions of intended use.7.1.4 Cast- and sheet-metal portions of the enclosure shall not be thinner than indicated in Table 7.1unless the enclosure is investigated and found acceptable in accordance wit
