14、This outline states basic construction, test, and marking requirements for the safety of electrical andelectrical/optical fiber cables that are for use in network-powered broadband communications systems asspecified in Article 830 and other applicable parts of the National Electrical Code (NEC), ANS
15、I/NFPA 70.These cables (broadband cables) are for use as fixed wiring within and between buildings and are alsofor service and drop use entering buildings and terminating at network interface units, which convert thebroadband signal to its component voice, video, data, and interactive-service signal
16、s for distribution by thecables referenced in 1.10 (a) (e). Broadband cables are insulated for 300 volts (no marking) and are ofthe specific types and voltage ratings described in (a) and (b).a) LOW-POWER CABLES Types-BL, BLP, BLR, BLU, and BLX are low-power cables. Thesetypes are for 0 100 volt low
17、-power circuits and are rated and marked 100 volts or 100 V.These cables are intended to be installed in accordance with 830.154 in the NEC.b) MEDIUM POWER CABLES Types BM, BMR and BMU. These types are for 0 150 voltmedium-power circuits and are rated and marked 150 volts or 150 V. These cables arei
18、ntended to be installed in accordance with 830.151 in the NEC.1.2 Broadband cables are single and multiple coaxial cables for carrying network power as well assignals, and are also multiple-member cables consisting of any combination of one or more coaxial oroptical-fiber members, or both, for netwo
19、rk signals, with two or more individual, paired, or groupedinsulated circuit conductors for network power and none, one, or more insulated or bare conductor(s) fornetwork grounding. Excluded constructions are described in 1.7 1.9 and 13.2. Broadband cables are flator round. Electrically nonconductiv
20、e material separates each optical-fiber member from the rest of thecable.1.3 Cables of materials that qualify for temperatures above 60C (140F) are marked with a temperaturerating of 75, 90, 105, 125, 150, 200, or 250C (167, 194, 221, 257, 302, 392, or 482F). Temperaturemarking is not required for c
21、ables that qualify for a temperature rating of 60C (140F). See 44.2.1(e) forthese markings.1.4 A cable that contains one or more electromagnetic shields other than the outer conductors of coaxialmembers (see 8.1 8.3 for constructions) either is not marked to indicate the presence of such shieldingor
22、 the cable bears the designation shielded on the tag and on the overall cable jacket or legible throughthe jacket see 44.2.1(c) for this marking.1.5 Optical fibers in a cable carry energy at potentially injurious levels so a tag, reel, or carton markingrequires systems using optical fibers to comply
23、 with national safety standards see 9.3 and 45.1(c).Where there are conductive parts in an optical-fiber member or in a group of such members, a tag marking45.1(d) indicates the presence of these parts.1.6 The following describes the flame or smoke and flame testing of cables. These tests do notinve
24、stigate the toxicity or corrosivity of the products of combustion or decomposition of the cablematerials.a) PLENUM CABLES All Type BLP cables are tested for smoke and flame characteristics asspecified in Smoke and Flame Testing of Plenum Cables, Section 33, which applies the methoddescribed as the N
