7、mbly ofproducts or subassemblies.1.2 The production equipment covered by this standard is designed to be programmed for a specificmanufacturing application such as the assembly of components, packaging, sorting, or counting of parts,or hole punching or cutting. This equipment may also incorporate ma
8、nufacturing processes involvingheating or cooling, drying, or gluing of parts.1.3 This Outline of Investigation does not cover:a) Robotics and associated control equipment. This equipment is covered by the Outline ofInvestigation for Industrial Robots, Subject 1740.b) Equipment intended primarily fo
9、r identifying, examining, and investigating materials andmaking measurements and tests. This equipment is covered by the Standard for LaboratoryEquipment, UL 1262.1.4 Devices covered by this Outline of Investigation are not intended for the handling of hazardousmaterials in unattended applications.2
10、 General2.1 In addition to complying with the requirements in this Outline of Investigation, factory automationequipment shall also comply with Part I of the Standard for Industrial Control Equipment, UL 508, theNational Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70-93, and the Electrical Standard for Industrial Ma
11、chinery, NFPA79-91.2.2 A control panel which forms a portion of the overall equipment shall comply, either alone or inconjunction with the factory automation equipment, with the requirements in the Outline of Investigationfor Industrial Control Panels, Subject 508A.DECEMBER 27, 2006SUBJECT 20114UL C
12、OPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL3 Components3.1 Except as indicated in 3.2 and 11.1, a component of a product covered by this Outline of Investigationshall comply with the requirements for that component. See A for a list of standa
13、rds covering componentsgenerally used in the products covered by this standard.3.2 A component need not comply with a specific requirement that:a) Involves a feature or characteristic not needed in the application of the component in theproduct covered by this standard; orb) Is superseded by a requi
14、rement in this Outline.3.3 A component shall be used in accordance with its recognized rating established for the intendedconditions of use.3.4 Specific components are recognized as being incomplete in construction features or restricted inperformance capabilities. Such components are intended for u
15、se only under limited conditions, such ascertain temperatures not exceeding specified limits and shall be used only under those specific conditionsfor which they have been recognized.CONSTRUCTION4 Spacings4.1 Other than as noted in 4.2, the electrical spacings in factory automation equipment shall c
16、omply withthe spacings requirements in the Standard for Industrial Control Equipment, UL 508.4.2 The electrical spacings for a device or subassembly which is contained within the overall equipmentshall comply with the Standard for Insulation Coordination Including Clearances and Creepage Distancesfo
17、r Electrical Equipment, UL 840.5 Accessibility of Live or Moving Parts5.1 To reduce the risk of unintentional contact with a live or moving part, factory automation equipmentshall be provided with appropriate mechanical barriers or curtains except as indicated in 5.4. See 5.2.Exception: It is not ne
18、cessary to provide a barrier or curtain on locations of factory automation equipmentmarked in accordance with the Standard for Industrial Control Equipment, UL 508, to warn of the risk ofinjury or shock related to unintentional contact with a live or moving part.5.2 With regard to 5.1, the factors t
19、o be considered in determining whether a barrier, curtain, or markingis appropriate to address a particular risk of injury or shock include:a) The electrical levels of the live part;b) The sharpness and speed of the moving part; andc) The likelihood of unintentional contact.DECEMBER 27, 2006 SUBJECT

21、s shall comply with the general requirements for polymericenclosures and parts in the Standard for Enclosures for Electrical Equipment, UL 50.6 Switches and Controls6.1 An emergency stop as described in 6.2 shall be provided on factory automation equipment. The stopshall be located so that it is acc
22、essible from any operating position.6.2 The emergency stop required by 6.1 shall be colored red and shall be of the latching-type. Theemergency stop shall additionally comply with the Emergency Stop Operation Test, Section 19. The stopshall be mushroom-shaped such that it is activated when the stop
23、is pushed.7 Motors7.1 A motor located in a hazardous circuit (a circuit operating at greater than 8 A and 30 V ac) shall beprovided with suitable branch-circuit protection, and shall comply with the Temperature Test outlined inSection 40 of the Standard for Industrial Control Equipment, UL 508, and
24、the Drive Motor Locked RotorTest, Section 18 of this Outline of Investigation.8 Electronic Motor Drives8.1 An electronic motor drive employed in factory automation equipment shall comply with the Standardfor Power Conversion Equipment, UL 508C.9 Wiring9.1 In addition to complying with the wiring req
