7、1.1 These requirements cover the construction and operation of stationary and semi-portable drychemical extinguishing system units. Dry chemical extinguishing system units are intended to be installed,maintained, tested and inspected in accordance with the Standard for Dry Chemical ExtinguishingSyst

8、ems, NFPA 17.1.2 Stationary and Semi-Portable extinguishing system units require a manual means of operating andfire-fighting and are intended to be used for fire-fighting in the vicinity of the hazard being protected inaccordance with the manufacturers design, installation, and maintenance instruct

9、ions. These devices are:1) not a part of a system with fixed nozzles; and2) not evaluated for fire-fighting performance and are therefore, not assigned a fire rating as forportable fire extinguishers.1.3 Hand hose line extinguishing system units are intended to supplement fixed nozzle extinguishings

10、ystem units or to supplement portable fire extinguishers for the protection of specific hazards for whichdry chemical is a suitable extinguishing agent.2 Units of Measurement2.1 Values stated without parentheses are the requirement. 15、tions of UL 299 and UL 1254 apply:5.2 HAND HOSE LINE EXTINGUISHING SYSTEM UNIT A device intended to be operated by asingle person and intended to be totally or partially assembled at the installation location using thecomponents specified in the installation instructions and consists of an extinguis

16、hing agent that can bedischarged through (1) a hose and nozzle assembly connected by fixed piping or (2) a turret nozzleassembly connected directly to a supply of extinguishing agent under pressure, for the purpose ofsuppressing or completely eliminating a fire.5.3 HOSE STATION The location where a

17、hose reel and nozzle, turret nozzle, and a means foroperating the unit are located.5.4 SEMI-PORTABLE HAND HOSE LINE EXTINGUISHING SYSTEM UNIT A hand hose line fireextinguishing system unit that can be transported to a location, such as a skid mounted device, or withthe use of an auxiliary moving dev

18、ice such as a dolly or truck.5.5 STATIONARY HAND HOSE LINE EXTINGUISHING SYSTEM UNIT A hand hose line fireextinguishing system unit that is non-transportable and is permanently mounted to a structure.CONSTRUCTION6 GeneralClause 6 effective October 17, 20166.1 Requirements6.1.1 For the purpose of the

23、all be constructed with a sufficient quantity and flow rate of dry chemical to supply themaximum number of nozzles that are likely to be used at any one time for at least 30 s.6.1.4 Extinguishing system units or hose stations intended to be stored outdoors shall be constructed withprotection against

24、 the weather.6.1.5 An extinguishing system unit shall be constructed to operate as intended from the minimum storagetemperature of -40C (- 40F) or -54C (-65F) to 49C (120F).6.1.6 The edges and surfaces of a valve, cap, closure, hose, cylinder, handle, mounting device, andsimilar items, shall be cons

25、tructed to not be sufficiently sharp to constitute a risk of injury to persons whileperforming the intended maintenance and use.6.1.7 Extinguishing system units shall be constructed with a means to clear the piping and hose lines ofdry chemical immediately after use.6.1.8 Extinguishing system units

27、M UL6.2 Hose6.2.1 Discharge hose shall comply with the Standard for Fire Extinguisher and Booster Hose, UL 92 andbe constructed to have a nominal internal diameter of a minimum 25.4 mm (1 in).6.2.2 Extinguishing system units shall be constructed with hose lines coupled to the dry chemical supplyand

28、the discharge device.6.2.3 Hose couplings and fittings intended to connect hose used for any purpose on an extinguishingsystem unit shall be constructed of corrosion-resistant material. See Salt spray corrosion test.6.2.4 The hose shall be coiled on a hose reel or rack so that it can be readily unco

29、iled with a minimumof delay.6.2.5 Hose couplings and fittings shall be constructed to:a) permit continued use of the hose without loosening or detachment of the hose from thecoupling, andb) not snag on objects, orc) interfere with normal operation of the extinguishing system unit.6.3 Discharge devic

30、es6.3.1 A hose nozzle shall be constructed such that the nozzle and attached hose can be removed fromthe device and discharged by one person.6.3.2 Each turret and hose reel shall be provided with a shutoff nozzle or flow control valve.6.3.3 Turret nozzles shall be constructed and provided with caps

31、or other suitable devices to preventmoisture or foreign materials from entering the turret or piping.6.4 Actuation devices6.4.1 The valve used to pressurize the dry chemical chamber shall be constructed to remain in the openposition after opening and during the entire discharge of dry chemical.6.4.2

39、 pressurized within the temperature range specified. If the units arenot assembled, filled with agent and pressurized within the temperature range specified, the assembledextinguishing system units shall be placed in controlled temperature conditions specified in the individualtests, for at least 8

41、arge Duration TestClause 8 effective October 17, 20168.1 A hand hose line extinguishing system unit shall have a duration of discharge of not less than 30seconds.8.2 A hand hose line extinguishing system unit charged with its rated capacity at 21 3C (70 5F) shallbe operated in accordance with the in

42、structions, with the discharge nozzle in the horizontal and closedposition. The discharge nozzle shall then be opened discharging the dry chemical, and the duration to gaspoint and amount of dry chemical discharged recorded.9 Fire TestsClause 9 effective October 17, 20169.1 A hand hose line extingui

43、shing system unit shall comply with the Standard for Rating and Fire Testingof Fire Extinguishers, UL 711. The fire tests are to be conducted for a 20A rating and a 20B rating, asapplicable, with the minimum flow rate. The Class B fire tests are capable of being conducted outdoors.10 Rate of Flow Te

44、stClause 10 effective October 17, 201610.1 A hand hose line extinguishing system unit shall be discharged to determine the rate of flow at 213C (70 5F) and shall be consistent, as evidenced by the results of three consecutive tests not varyingmore than 10 percent from their mean value.10.2 A hand ho

45、se line extinguishing system unit charged with its rated capacity is to be discharged for aperiod of two-thirds of its average discharge duration at 21 3C (70 5F), rounded to the nearestsecond, with the nozzle held in a horizontal position. The rate of flow is to be calculated from the loss inweight

46、 during discharge. This test is to be used for identification and countercheck purposes with the rateof flow established as 10 percent of the mean of the three tests conducted.11 Discharge Range TestClause 11 effective October 17, 201611.1 A hand hose line extinguishing system unit at 21 3C (70 5F)

47、shall discharge a minimum of 90percent (by mass) of the rated capacity of dry chemical at a minimum distance of 3 m (10 ft) from thenozzle.11.2 These characteristics are to be based on the operation of a hand hose line extinguishing system unitcharged with its rated capacity with the discharge nozzl

49、 extinguishing system unit shall discharge a minimum 75 percent (by mass) of therated capacity of dry chemical when conditioned at its minimum storage and use temperature, 21 3C(70 5F) and 49 3C (120 5F), and shall operate in such a manner that not more than 1 secondelapses from the time the discharge valve is opened until the dry chemical starts to discharge.12.2 A hand hose line extinguishing system unit charged with its rated capacity and conditioned at eachof the temperatures specified in 12.1 for a minimum of 16 hours is to be operat
