40、600 volts or less to be employed in ordinary locations in accordance with the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70. 1.2 These requirements do not cover xed heaters, location-dedicated heaters, baseboard heaters, duct heaters, central-heating furnaces, fan-coil units, panel- or cable-type radiant-h

41、eating equipment, electric boilers, or any other electric heating equipment or appliances that are covered in or as a part of separate, individual requirements. 2 General 2.1 General 2.1.1 If the operation of a heater involves the generation and conning under pressure of steam or other gas, consider

42、ation is to be given to the possibility of risk of explosion incident to such operation. This applies in the case of an appliance having immersed electrodes, if the electrolysis of water may result in the accumulation of oxygen and hydrogen. The appliance is not acceptable unless its strength is suc

43、h that it will withstand any risk of explosion that may be involved. 2.2 Terminology 2.2.1 Unless indicated otherwise, all voltage and current values mentioned in this standard are rms. 3 Glossary 3.1 For the purposes of this standard the following denitions apply. 3.2 ANGLE OF CRITICAL BALANCE The

44、minimum angle through which a heater must be tipped to cause it to tip over due solely to the force of gravity. 3.3 APPLIANCE COUPLER A single-outlet, female contact device for attachment to a exible cord as part of a detachable power-supply cord to be connected to an appliance inlet (motor attachme

45、nt plug). 3.4 APPLIANCE INLET (Motor Attachment Plug) A male contact device mounted on an end product appliance to provide an integral blade conguration for the connection of an appliance coupler or cord connector. 3.5 APPLIANCE (FLATIRON) PLUG An appliance coupler type of device having a cord guard

46、 and a slot conguration specied for use with heating or cooking appliances. 3.6 CHARRING WITH CROSSCHECKING Manifestation of ignition by separation of wood bers in the direction with the grain and also in the direction across the grain. 3.7 COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL HEATER Any heater that is either: a)

When incorporated in an appliance, equipment otherwise typically eld installed (e.g. lumin

Unless otherwise specied, materials that compose a device or fabricated part, such as thermoplastic or copper, are not considered components. 3.9 CONTROL CIRCUIT A circuit that carries the electric signals directing the operation of a controller which, in turn, governs power delivered to a motor or other load.
