Introduction Advances in digital voice communications over non-traditional channels such as the Internet and Local Area Networks have made it necessary to redefine the way digital telephones are evaluated for voice quality. ANSI/TIA/EIA-810-A established handset, headset an

44、d handsfree telephone audio performance requirements for narrowband (300 and 3400 Hz) digital, wireline telephones regardless of protocol or digital format. This standard does the same for wideband telephony. It establishes handset, headset and handsfree telephone audio performance requirements for

45、wideband (150 and 6800 Hz) digital wireline telephones regardless of protocol or digital format. Scope This standard

46、 establishes voice performance requirements for wideband digital, wireline telephones where transmission is in digital format. A telephone is defined as a device that terminates networks and provides telephony voice service. Transmission may be over Local Area Networks, Firewire/IEEE-1394, Universal

47、 Serial Bus (USB), public ISDN or digital over twisted pair wire. Applications include Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), and PCM-based telephones, whether connected through modems, gateways, or PBXs and personal computer-based telephones, which may or may not have handsets. Technical requirements

48、 are set for handset, headset and handsfree (speakerphone) modes of operation. These requirements apply regardless of the technology used to couple the handset or headset to the telephone. Coupling may be by a cord, a short-range air-interface such as, but not limited to, a radio interface, an elect

49、ric field interface, a magnetic field interface or an infra-red interface. 2.1. Limits of Applicability These requirements are not intended to describe specific requirements for the following types of digital voice terminal equipment: telephones with carbon transmitters, ISDN terminal adapters and cellular voice terminals. 2.2.
