5、 1.1 Purpose This document specifies guidelines for display of rated persons capacity marking of personal watercraft. It is intended as a guide toward standard practice and is subject to change to keep pace with experience and technical advances. 1.2 Rationale SAE J2566 was developed as a uniform me

6、thod for display of persons capacity marking for manufacturers to follow that reflects the number of persons a watercraft is rated to carry. 2. Definitions 3.1 Personal Watercraft A vessel less than 4 m (13 ft) in length which uses an internal combustion

8、engine powering a water jet pump as its primary source of propulsion, and is designed to be operated by a person or persons sitting, standing, or kneeling on rather than within the confines of a hull. 4. Display of Persons Capacity 4.1 Each personal watercraft shall be marked by the manufacturer wit

9、h a Rated Persons Capacity, which must not exceed the number of persons chosen for the Flotation test referenced in Section 4, SAE J1973Personal WatercraftFlotation. 5. Display of Persons Capacity Marking Required 5.1 Each personal watercraft shall be marked in a manner prescribed in 6.2. 6. Display

10、 of Markings 6.1 Each marking required by 5.1 must be permanently displayed in a legible manner where it is clearly visible to the operator when getting the personal watercraft underway. 6.2 The information required by 5.1 must be displayed in the following manner: 6.2.1 The rated persons capacity i

11、nformation must be displayed within a yellow area that is at least one and one-eighth inch wide. 6.2.2 The rated persons capacity information displayed must meet the following as illustrated in Figure 1. 12、d persons capacity in whole numbers must be black print with the flollowing dimensions: 6.2.3.1 The height must not be smaller than one-half inch; 6.2.3.2 The width of the number must be three-fifths of the height except for the number “4”, which shall be one stroke width wider, and the number “1” w

13、hich shall be one stroke in width; 6.2.3.3 The stroke width shall be one-sixth of the height; 6.2.3.4 The words “Rated Persons Capacity” must be in black print and at least one-quarter inch in height but not larger than one-half the height of the persons capacity number. 7. Construction of Markings

14、7.1 Each marking required by Section 6 must be capable of withstanding the combined effects of exposure to water, oil, salt spray, direct sunlight, heat, cold, and wear expected in normal operation of the vessel, without loss of legibility and resistant to efforts to remove or alter the information without leaving some obvious sign of such efforts.
