5、sed 2017-09 Superseding AMS6323L Steel, Mechanical Tubing 0.50Cr - 0.55Ni - 0.25Mo (0.38 - 0.43C) (SAE 8740) (Composition similar to UNS G87400) RATIONALE AMS6323M results from a Five-Year Review and update of this specification that revises grain size determination (3.1.1 and 3.3.2), decarburizatio
6、n determination (3.3.4), quality (3.4.2), testing frequency (4.2), reporting (4.4), and identification (5.2.1). 1. SCOPE 1.1 Form This specification covers an aircraft-quality, low-alloy steel in the form of mechanical tubing. 1.2 Application This tubing has been used typically for parts, 0.375 inch
7、 (9.52 mm) and under in section thickness at time of heat treatment, requiring a through-hardening steel capable of developing hardness as high as 50 HRC when hardened and tempered, and also for parts of greater thickness but requiring proportionately lower hardness, but usage is not limited to such
8、 applications. 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS The issue of the following documents in effect on the date of the purchase order forms a part of this specification to the extent specified herein. The supplier may work to a subsequent revision of a document unless a specific document issue is specified. When

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Composition Shall conform to the percentages by weight shown in Table 1, determined by wet chemical methods in accordance with ASTM E350, by spectrochemical methods, or by other analytical methods acceptable to purchaser. 17、rain size requirements of 3.3.2.2. SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS6323M Page 3 of 7 3.1.2 Check Analysis Composition variations shall meet the applicable requirements of AMS2259. 3.2 Condition Cold finished, having hardness not higher than 25 HRC, or equivalent (see 8.2). Tubing ordered hot finished and annea
18、led or tempered shall have hardness not higher than 99 HRB, or equivalent. Hardness shall be determined in accordance with ASTM E18. 3.3 Properties Tubing shall conform to the following requirements: 3.3.1 Macrostructure Visual examination of transverse full cross-sections from tube rounds, etched i
19、n hot hydrochloric acid in accordance with ASTM E381, shall show no pipe or cracks. Porosity, segregation, inclusions, and other imperfections shall be no worse than the macrographs of ASTM E381 shown in Table 2. 21、he cognizant engineering organization. 3.3.2 Average Grain Size Average grain size shall be determined by either 3.3.2.1 or 3.3.2.2. 3.3.2.1 Shall be ASTM No. 5 or finer determined in accordance with ASTM E112. 3.3.2.2 The product of a heat shall be considered to have an ASTM No. 5 or finer austenit
22、ic grain size if one or more of the following are determined by heat analysis (see 8.5): 3.3.2.2.1 A total aluminum content of 0.020 to 0.050%. 3.3.2.2.2 An acid soluble aluminum content of 0.015 to 0.050%. 3.3.2.2.3 A vanadium content of 0.02 to 0.08%. 3.3.2.2.4 A columbium content of 0.02 to 0.05%
23、. 3.3.3 Hardenability Shall be J 5/16 inch (7.9 mm) = 50 HRC minimum and J 8/16 inch (12.7 mm) = 40 HRC minimum, determined on the standard end-quench test specimen in accordance with ASTM A255 except that the steel shall be normalized at 1700 F 10 F (927 C 6 C) and the test specimen austenitized at
24、 1500 F 10 F (816 C 6 C). Decarburization on tubing ID shall not exceed the maximum depth specified in Table
