2、ffett Field (Mountain View), California. The building was about three months old, purchased and assembled on site by American Modular Systems, Inc. The building was occupied by code OFX, Range Systems Branch. In the area that the fire occurred, research in microwave landing systems was being conduct

3、ed.The fire was first reported by a building janitorial worker, who noticed the fire at the rear of the structure at or near one of the four wall-mounted heat pumps. The alarm was received at the Moffett Field Fire Department at 0100 hrs. The first engine company arrived at 0103 hrs. and the fire re

4、ported extinguished at 0143 hrs.Most of the fire damage occurred above the suspended ceiling with some heat and water damage below, and some damage throughout the building. Various test equipment and computers located on work benches were damaged. The building was subsequently closed.The fire starte

5、d at the mouth of one of the heat pump units located at the discharge duct connector. At the discharge flange of the heat pump there are electric resistance heating coils that operate under various conditions in which the unit is unable to produce sufficient heat. Six manufacturing deficiencies were

6、 discovered at these duct connectors.Lesson(s) Learned: 1. Require detailed inspections for all new trailers and modulars. Assure that these inspections include all electrical and mechanical systems with special emphasis on potential ignition sources such as heating coils.Provided by IHSNot for Resa

Survey existing buildings and be responsible to see that all buil

8、dings have correctly posted and clearly visible building numbers. The Centers maps should be updated periodically and distributed to all emergency organizations.2. Replace the back-up fire alarm receivers with models that can correctly report the building number consistent with the main receiver. Al

9、arms to the duty office, during periodic testing, should verify the building number.3. Assure adequate fire truck access when determining site for a facility. Do not locate modular buildings in places that do not have access directly to streets.4. The trailer/modular building standard, which NASA is

10、 currently developing, should require more detailed inspections of such facilities with special emphasis given to the building mechanical and electrical systems. Construction inspectors should conduct periodic inspection of modular buildings under construction on site.5. Specify that all furnaces wi

11、th electric re-heat or auxiliary heating coils be provided with access panels at the electric coils. This would allow for initial and periodic inspection of the coils for dust and debris accumulation. The new NASA trailer/modular guide specification should include access panels at electric furnace h

12、eating coils.
