NOVEMBER 2017 Page 2 of 21 4.0 REQUIREMENTS 4.1 FITTINGS AND END FORMS 4.1.1 Requirements for a Fitting 4.1.1.1 Interference Fit - The difference between the connector OD and hose ID. This difference directly affects hose joint sealing integrity. A non-int
、erference fit condition may not sustain a permanent seal (0.1 - 1.5 mm interference is required). For 50 mm (2 in) and above, 0.1 - 1.5 mm interference is recommended, but it requires verification for insertion force. Note that Navistar bulk hose with ID less than 12.7mm (0.5 in) does not currently
、meet the interference specification. 4.1.1.2 Lead In (Dim. A Figure 1) - Surface that provides a ramp and pilot for hose installation. 4.1.1.3 Bead Height (Dim. C Figure 1) - It is used to resist hose and clamp blow-off from the connector (Barb OD recommended is 103.5 - 105% of the connector OD over
、 2 inches. For connector OD less than 2 inches, refer to Table 1). 4.1.1.4 Hose Stop - A connector feature to allow correct positioning of the hose and clamp onto the connector. It prevents further insertion of the hose and informs the installer that the hose has been properly installed. It can be u
、sed for radial alignment of the hose. A hose stop feature shall be included on every fitting or tube. 4.1.1.5 Land Length (Dim. E Figure 1) - Is the distance between the bead and connector hose stop. This area is the primary sealing surface for the hose and clamp joint. The land length will vary by
、the hose size and clamp width. 4.1.1.6 Push on Force - Is the effort required to install the hose over the bead. A lubricant can be used to reduce this. Preferred force is less than 188N (42 lbf). 4.1.1.7 Lubricant - An assembly aid to assist insertion of the hose onto the connector, applied to the
、hose I.D. This can vary by hose material and system compatibility. A surfactant such as DuPonts MERPOL at 100:1 with water, straight water or dry, is permitted. A rubber assembly lubricant (International Products P80 is allowed, part number 2644105R1) is allowed, see section 4.2.2. Detergent and wat
、er (100:1 dilution) and other lubricants may be used but shall be evaluated by Materials Engineering for deleterious effects before use. 4.1.1.8 Connector Surface Finish - This is a measurement of surface profile of the connector land area Surface roughness value not to exceed Ra 3.2 m (Ra 125 in) r
、equired. The land area and bead surface must be free of burrs, seams, flash or any residual grind marks from stock removal. This requirement applies for unpainted and plated/painted surfaces AFTER they are plated or painted. Refer to MPAPS F-1058 and MPAPS C-1059. NUMBER: MPAPS F-1 TITLE: Fluid Conn
