6、 -61 J 7 -56 K 7-8 -18 L 8 2.0 TEST PANEL REQUIREMENTS The vendor, submitting a product for qualification, should use an appropriate number of panels to perform all required tests. Additional factors affecting the number of test panels include the types of substrates or coatings the product will be
7、applied to and any subsequent coatings that may be applied over the vendors product. Possible substrates include cold rolled steel, galvanized steel, cast iron, aluminum, and various plastics including SMC. 8、eyer Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46801-1109. 2.1 METHOD A 2.1.1 Obtain panels pretreated with zinc phosphate and preprimed with a Grade -56 E-coat representative of current production. 2.1.2 Using the appropriate solvent(s), dilute and activate if necessary one liter of paint prepared according to the step

11、-17HS: Dilute the paint to 18+ 1 seconds using a No.4 Ford Cup per ASTM D1200, then activate with isocyanate (6 parts paint:1 part isocyanate, unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer.) 2.1.2.2 Grade -19: Dilute the paint to 18+ 1 seconds using a NO. 4 Ford cup. 2.1.2.3 Grade -19HS: Dilute the
12、 paint to 25+ 1 seconds using a No. 4 Ford Cup. 2.1.3 Spray the panels with adjusted paint from step (2.1.2) at 21 to 27C (70 to 80F) using a siphon or pressure gun set at 414 to 483 kPa (60 to 70 psi). Apply a first coat of enamel, flash dry for three minutes, then apply a second coat of enamel. Fo
13、r paints containing metallic pigments, a thin third coat is recommended. 2.1.4 All panels shall be uniformly coated and free from sags, runs, wrinkles, or other irregularities. 2.1.5 Dry the panels in a vertical position for five minutes in still air at 21 to 27C (70 to 80F), then place in a recircu
14、lating oven as follows. 2.1.5.1 Grades -17 and -17HS: Bake the panels at 94+ 3C (200+ 5F) for thirty minutes. Remove and cool to 21 to 27C (70 to 80F). 2.1.5.2 Grades -19 and -19HS: Bake the panels at 121+ 3C (250+ 5F) for thirty minutes. Remove and cool to 21 to 27C (70 to 80F). 2.1.6 Determine the
15、 dry film thickness of the enamel applied to each panel by measuring the dry film thickness of the enamel and primer and subtracting from this the dry film thickness of the primer only. Panels suitable for use in testing the properties of these grades of enamel will exhibit a dry film thickness of t
16、he enamel topcoat of 43 to 59 m (1.7 to 2.3 mils). 2.2 METHOD B 2.2.1 Clean the panels by wiping with industrial grade xylene per ASTM D364. 2.2.2 For Bonderite CD-10 or Bonderite 958 zinc phosphated steel panels only, age the cleaned panels for one hour in a recirculating oven 113 + 9C (235 + 15F)
17、and then cool to 21 to 27C (70 to 80F). 2.2.3 Protect all panels from rust, oil, fingerprints, or other forms of surface contamination. 2.2.4 Using the appropriate solvents, dilute one liter of paint which has been prepared according to the steps outlined in CEMS G-5, Part I, Section B, under “Sampl
18、ing Procedure”, to a viscosity as follows: 2.2.4.1 Grade -62: Dilute the paint to 24 + 1 second using a No. 4 Ford cup per ASTM D1200, per the paint manufacturers recommendations. 2.2.4.2 Exceptions: Grades -32, -32HS and -81HS may be supplied in the spray as received condition; if so, proceed immed
19、iately to (2.2.5). 2.2.5 For paints containing metallic pigments, spray the panels with adjusted paint from step (2.2.4) at 21 to 27C (70 to 80F) using a siphon or pressure gun set at 552 kPa (80 psi). For paints not containing metallic pigments, spray the panels with adjusted paint from step (2.2.4
20、) at 21 to 27C (70 to 80F) using a siphon or pressure gun set at 414 to 483 kPa (60 to 70 psi). As an option, paints without metallic pigments may be applied to all panels except those to be used for testing initial gloss per Test Method GT-6B or color per Federal Standard 141a, Method 4250, by dipp
21、ing or with a doctor blade. The panels to be used to determine conformance to the initial gloss or color requirements of this grade of paint will always be sprayed. On all referee questions, a sprayed panel will be used. 2.2.6 All panels will be uniformly coated and free from sags, runs, wrinkles, o

Exceptions: Grades -32, -32W, -32HS, -81HS, -81W,-82W, and -83W will exhibit a dry film thickness of 30 to 41 m (1.2 to 1.6 mils). 2.3 METHOD C 2
26、.3.1 Clean the panels by wiping with industrial grade xylene per ASTM D 364. 2.3.2 For Bonderite CD-10 or Bonderite 958 zinc phosphated steel panels only, age the cleaned panels for one hour in a recirculating oven 113 + 9C (235 + 15F) and then cool to 21 to 27C (70 to 80F). 2.3.3 Protect all panels
27、 from rust, oil, finger marks or other forms of surface contamination. 2.3.4 Using the appropriate solvent(s), dilute one liter of paint which has been prepared according to the steps outlined in CEMS G-5, Part I, Section B, under “Sampling Procedure,” to a viscosity as measured with a No. 4 Ford Cu
28、p per ASTM D 1200, of 19 + 1 seconds. 2.3.5 For paints containing metallic pigments, spray the panels with adjusted paint from step (2.3.4) at 21 to 27C (70 to 80F) using a siphon or pressure gun set at 552 kPa (80 psi). For paints not containing metallic pigments, spray the panels with adjusted pai
29、nt from step (2.3.4) at 21 to 27C (70 to 80F) using a siphon or pressure gun set at 414 to 483 kPa (60 to 70 psi). Apply a first coat, flash dry for three to four minutes, then apply a second coat. 2.3.6 All panels will be uniformly coated and free from sags, runs, wrinkles or other irregularities.
30、2.3.7 Dry the panels in a vertical position for five minutes in still air at 21 to 27C (70 to 80F), then place in a recirculating oven as follows: 2.3.7.1 Grades -29 and -29HS: Bake the panels at 154 + 3C (310 + 5F) for 30 minutes. Remove and cool to 21 to 27C (70 to 80F). 2.3.7.2 Grades -29T and -2
31、9THS: Bake the panels at 191 + 3C (385 + 5F) for thirty minutes. Remove and cool to 21 to 27C (70 to 80F). 2.3.8 Measure the dry film thickness of the paint applied to each of the panels with a micrometer or other accurate thickness gage. Panels suitable for use in testing the properties of this gra
32、de of enamel will exhibit a dry film thickness of 43 to 59m (1.7 to 2.3 mils). 2.4 METHOD D 2.4.1 Clean the panels by wiping with industrial grade xylene per ASTM D 364. 2.4.2 Protect all panels from rust, oil, finger marks or other forms of surface contamination. 2.4.3 Using appropriate solvent(s),
33、 dilute one liter of paint which has been prepared for testing according to the steps outlined in CEMS G-5, Part I, Section B, under “Sampling Procedure”, to a viscosity as measured with a No. 4 Ford Cup per ASTM D 1200, of 20 + 1 seconds. 2.4.4 Spray the panels with adjusted paint from step (2.4.3)

Remove and
37、 cool to 21 to 27C (70 to 80F). 2.4.7 Air drying procedure: Dry the panels in a vertical position for thirty minutes in still air at 21 to 27C (70 to 80F). 2.4.8 Measure the dry film thickness of the paint applied to each of the panels with a micrometer or other accurate thickness gage. Panels suita
38、ble for use in testing the properties of this grade of enamel will exhibit a dry film thickness of 20 to 30 m (0.8 to 1.2 mils). 2.5 METHOD E 2.5.1 Clean the panels by wiping with industrial grade xylene per ASTM D 364. 2.5.2 For Bonderite CD-10 or Bonderite 958 zinc phosphated steel panels only, ag
39、e the cleaned panels for one hour in a recirculating oven at 113 + 9C (235 + 15F) and then cool to 21 to 27C (70 to 80F). 2.5.3 Protect all panels from rust, oil, finger marks or other forms of surface contamination. 2.5.4 Using the appropriate solvent(s), dilute one liter of paint which has been pr
40、epared for testing according to the steps outlined in CEMS G-5, Part I, Section B, under “Sampling Procedure”, to a viscosity as measured with a No. 2 Zahn Cup per ASTM D 4212, of 21 + 1 seconds. 2.5.5 Flow the coating onto the panels. Maintain the panels in a vertical position after coating and all
41、ow them to drain for ten minutes. 2.5.6 Place the panels in a vertical position in a recirculating oven and bake them for thirty minutes at 196 + 3C (385 + 5F). Remove and cool to 21 to 27C (70 to 80F). 2.5.7 Measure the dry film thickness of the paint applied to each of the panels with a micrometer
42、 or other accurate thickness gage. Panels suitable for use in testing the properties of enamel will exhibit a dry film thickness of 13 to 25 m (0.5 to 1.0 mil). 2.6 METHOD F 2.6.1 Clean the panels by wiping with industrial grade xylene per ASTM D 364. 2.6.2 Protect all panels from rust, oil, finger
43、marks or other forms of surface contamination. 2.6.3 If the viscosity is 25 seconds or less, proceed immediately to step (2.6.4). If the “as received” viscosity is greater than 25 seconds, using the appropriate solvent(s), dilute one liter of paint which has been prepared for testing according to th
44、e steps outlined in CEMS G-5, Part I, Section B, under “Sampling Procedure,” to a viscosity as measured with a No. 4 Ford Cup per ASTM D 1200, of 20 to 25 seconds. 2.6.4 Dip the panels completely into the adjusted paint from step (2.6.3) at 21 to 27C (70 to 80F). 2.6.5 Dry the panels in a vertical p
45、osition for fifteen minutes in still air at 21 to 27C (70 to 80F). 2.6.6 All panels will be uniformly coated and free from sags, runs, wrinkles, or other irregularities. 2.7 METHOD G 2.7.1 Clean the panels by wiping with industrial grade xylene per ASTM D 364. 2.7.2 For Bonderite CD-10 or Bonderite
