If an instrume

、nt with diffuse geometry is used, the specular component of reflectance shall be included in the measurement. Note: An aperture diameter smaller than 20 mm should not be used for these measurements. Operating Conditions - Xenotest 1200 The machine is fitted with 3 x 4.5 KW Xenon burners, 64 cm long

、surrounded by a quartz cylinder and water cooling jacket. The effective life of the burners is 1500 hours. One new burner is fitted every 500 hours to minimize variations in radiation intensity. The radiation intensity in the wavelength range of 300 - 830 nm is approximately 1000 W/m2. (The radiatio

、n intensity and spectral energy distribution can be varied by fitting UV-filters or window glass.) A revolving specimen rack is fitted which carries 25 specimen holders (630 x 70 mm in size) at a distance of 265 mm from the axis of the Xenon burners. Wider specimen holders (630 x 150 mm in size) can

、 be made and fitted in place of 2 small holders to support the larger specimens required for certain tests. FORD LABORATORY TEST METHOD BO 150-02 Page 3 of 6 Copyright 2001, Ford Global Technologies, Inc. Specimen Temperature This is controlled by adjusting the test chamber temperature and checked b

、y means of a black panel thermometer mounted on a specimen holder. Test Chamber Temperature This can be regulated by (and is indicated on) the remote thermometer on the control panel at the front of the machine. Test Chamber Relative Humidity This can be regulated by (and is indicated on) the remote

、 humidity controller at the front of the machine. Water Spray There is also a facility for spraying the specimens with water at pre-determined intervals to simulate rain in outdoor exposures. Laboratory Environment In order to maintain controlled conditions in the equipment, it should be operated in

、 a dust free environment with the temperature controlled between 15 and 25 C. Standard Test Conditions Unless different conditions are quoted in the Material Specification, the following standard settings shall apply to all Xenotest exposures described by this method: Black panel temperature (B P) 7

、5 +/- 3 C Test chamber temperature (T C) 50 +/- 1 C Relative humidity (R H) 80 +/- 5 % UV or window glass filters Not required Water spray on specimens Not required In addition, the equipment must be installed, operated and maintained in line with the Manufacturers recommendations. To ensure uniform

、ity of testing the following should be observed: To prevent peak irradiance after installation of new burners, burners should be supplied pre-aged. To ensure equivalence of irradiance exposure the top and bottom 100 mm of the specimen holder should not be utilized. Top and bottom reflectors should b

FORD LABORATORY TEST METHOD BO 150-02 Page 4 of 6 Copyright 2001, Ford Global Technologies, Inc. The central glass column should be cleaned on the outside at the same time. Ensure that the distil

、led water tanks are kept clean. The waste water should not be recirculated unless it is demineralized again. Radiation checks with a Radialux UV Sensor (top, middle and bottom of the rack) should be made before and after each service. Value to be within 116 W/m2 /second +/- 4. Calibration checks uti

、lizing AATCC L2 and L4 blue wools should be made adopting the following procedure. Calibration Procedure This procedure describes the use of AATCC blue wool lightfastness standards as reference fabrics for the purpose of determining whether the xenon arc apparatus is operating within the specified l

、imits for irradiance. Color difference values in CIELAB units are obtained by instrumentally measuring the reference fabrics before and after a specified amount of radiant exposure. Back the reference fabric (smooth side face up) to be measured with white cardboard. Condition the backed reference fa

、bric at 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 % relative humidity for a minimum of 2 hours. Insert one layer of unexposed material of the same lightfastness standard between the reference fabric and cardboard backing prior to measurement. Note: The reference fabrics are light sensitive. The piece used as the back

、ing layer during measurement will need to be replaced when noticeable color change has occurred (after approximately 50 uses). Place the smooth surface of the reference fabric against the sample port of the instrument. After taking an initial reading in CIELAB units, rotate the reference fabric 90 a

、nd take a second reading. Average the readings and store as a standard measurement for the identified piece of reference fabric. Remove the backing fabric and place in a light tight container for later use. Each individual piece must be conditioned and measured prior to exposure. Expose the L2 refer

、ence fabric for 24 hours and the L4 reference fabric for 48 hours. Immediately after the specified exposure time remove the reference fabric(s) with the white cardboard backing(s). Allow the L2 and L4 fabric and backing to condition for 1 hour +/- 10 % in a standard atmosphere of 23 =/- 2 C and 50 +

、/-5 % relative humidity. FORD LABORATORY TEST METHOD BO 150-02 Page 5 of 6 Copyright 2001, Ford Global Technologies, Inc. Repeat the color measurement steps as specified on the exposed reference fabrics and using the previously stored pre-exposure measurement determine the Delta L*, a*, b* and E*. C

、ompare the Delta E* value to that specified below: Lightfastness Standard Delta E AATCC L2 Lot 5 13.2 +/- 0.85 AATCC L4 Lot 4 7.2 +/- 0.7 Note: The stated color difference values may change when new lots of the reference materials are produced. The target values should be confirmed with the responsi

、ble Materials Engineering activity. If the Delta E* value does not fall within the limits specified do not resume test until the reason has been determined and resolved. These values should be checked during each test run. This procedure is based on SAE J1885. Conditioning and Test Conditions All te

、st values indicated herein are based on material conditioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 % relative humidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unless otherwise specified. Test Procedure Fastness to Light A. Exposure Xenotest 1200 -

、 48 hours or as required by material specification. Specimen Size 200 x 65 mm Note: In cases of shortage of machine capacity, two test specimens, 100 x 65 mm can be exposed in one specimen frame. Evaluation Report the degree of fading using the scale for evaluating change in color under the standard

、 North Sky daylight illumination. Note: The material must show no change in color tone or evidence of spotting and it shall be equal to or better than the master sample approved by the responsible Materials Engineering activity. This is for exposure in the Xenotest. Also cut 4 specimens 125 x 75 mm from each fabric direction with the lon

Delaminate the face fabric from these specimens (if laminated) and determine “Original Tensile Strength“ value for each direction. 2. After exposure cut 2 specimens 125 x 75 mm from each fabric direction with the longer dimension parallel to the warp/wales and weft/ courses. Delaminate the face fabric and determine the “Tensile St

、rength After Ageing“ values. 4. Test the “Original Tensile Strength“ and “Tensile Strength After Ageing“ according to ASTM D 1682, Method GT except that initial jaw separation is 40 mm and test speed 150 mm/minute. Record the Average Tensile Strength in Newtons for each test condition. Evaluation Ca

Abrade for 1600 cycles, O grit paper, 900 g load, according to FLTM BN 108-01, or as required by the Material Specification. Evaluation Report any

、excessive wear of the face fabric compared with wear of the original fabric. Report any excessive loss of pile fiber, change of appearance or other defects. Performance should be equal to or better than that originally approved by the responsible Materials Engineering activity. Chemicals, materials, parts, and equipment referenced in this document must be used and handled properly. Each party is responsible for determining proper use and handling in its facilities.
