、 TAPE, POLYVINYL CHLORIDE FOAM - DOUBLE COATED ESB-M3G111-A PRESSURE SENSITIVE NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE The material defined by this specification is a cellular polyvinyl chloride foam tape coated on both sides with a pressure sensitive adhesive and protected by release paper. 2. APPLI
、CATION This specification was released originally for material used as a filler between dense rubber weatherstrip and enameled steel to seal against dust and air leaks. The pressure sensitive adhesive provides a temporary bond prior to the addition of mechanical retainers. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDA
、RD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.2 COLOR Black, or as specified on engineering drawing 3.3 DENSITY 12.0 - 14.0 lb/ft3 (ASTM D 1667) (190 - 220 kg/m3) 3.4 TENS
、ILE STRENGTH, min 5 lb/in (880 N/m) width (Approx. 0.060 in (1.52 mm) thick) Elongation, min 150% Test Method: 10 in (250 mm) strips of tape as received, with release paper removed, shall be pulled in the lengthwise direction using cross head equipment. The initial jaw separation shall be 4 in (100
、mm) and the operating speed shall be 12 in (305 mm)/min. Elongation may be calculated by chart speed determination or by use of calipers. 3.5 LOW TEMPERATURE FLEXIBILITY No cracking Test Method: Condition 6 in (150 mm) samples of tape as received at -29 +/- 1 C for 4 h and bend the samples 180 aroun

、age 2 of 3 3.7 COMPRESSED DIMENSIONAL STABILITY Volume Change, max 50% Test Method: Apply approximately 5 in (125 mm) of tape to a steel panel leaving the release paper on the top surface and place the steel panel in a Method “B“ fixture per ASTM D 395. Measure initial length and width. Compress spe
、cimen to 50% of nominal thickness. Place a 4 - 5 in (100 - 125 mm) length of release paper beneath each spacer to compensate for the release paper on the top surface of the tape. Clamp in this position. Expose the assembly in an air mechanical convection oven for 30 min at 121 +/- 3 C. Remove panel
、and tape from fixture and condition for 2 h at 23 +/- 2 C. Measure final length and width, measure total thickness and subtract thickness of panel and release paper. Thickness is calculated on compressed thickness or spacer thickness. Calculate volume change. 3.8 PAINT STAINING No migration staining
、 Test Method: Securely attach a 6 in (150 mm) sample of the material to a 3 x 9 in (75 - 230 mm) steel panel coated with ESB-M32J100 quality enamel with top surface of foam against the paint. Expose the assembly for 48 h in the fluorescent sunlamp cabinet described in FLTM BO 115-01. Examine for any

、, max 8 oz/in (88 N/m) width Test Method: Place core of tape around a fixture which will allow it to revolve. Attach the free end of the tape to a 10 lb (4.5 kg maximum limit spring scale or other suitable apparatus. Pull the tape from its roll at the rate of 12 in (305 mm)/min. Measure and record the unwind pull as a direct scale reading. 3.12 STORAGE STABILITY The unwind pull and ease of paper backing removal measured by hand peel examination shall not change appreciably after 18 months storage at temperatures below 32 C.
