    2、, THUMBABLE, NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN ESB-FM4G176-B SYNTHETIC RESIN BASE, ELECTROCOATED SUBSTRATES SEALER HEAT CURING, THUMBABLE, INACTIVE ESB-FM4G176-C SYNTHETIC RESIN BASE, BODY SHOP 1. SCOPE The materials defined by these specifications are synthetic resin base, solvent free, thumable high t

    3、emperature curing sealers. 2. APPLICATION These materials are primarily used for sealing and feathering lap joints and voids such as corners of backlite openings and are used over oily steel in body shop (ESBFM4G176C) or freshly baked electrocoat primer over phosphated surfaces. (ESBFM4G176B). 3. RE

    4、QUIREMENTS ESBFM4G176B ESBFM4G176C 3.1 STATISTICAL PROCESS X X Supplier must conform to the requirements of Ford Quality System Standard Q-101. A mutually acceptable Control Plan as described therein is required for material/source approval. Appropriate statistical tools must be used to analyze proc

    5、ess/products data so that variation in the final product is continuously reduced. 3.2 COLOUR As Approved As Approved 3.3 SOLIDS, minimum 99% 99% ASTM D 2046, except heat at 105 C for 3 h in a mechanical convection oven. 3.4 SPECIFIC GRAVITY The weight tolerance for any one supplier shall be +/- 0.02

    6、4kg/L. Based on the recorded weight of the original approved production sample, as determined per STM D 816 3.5 CURE CHARACTERISTICS X X There shall be n evidence of plasticizer migration, cracking, blistering, loss of flexibility, or failure to adhere to body shop oily metal (as used in production)

    7、 (ESBFM4G176C) or to phosphated and electrocoated metal (ESBFM4G176B). The sealer shall not cause tackiness of the primer or enamel, or discoloration of the enamel topcoat after exposure to current production baking schedules.     8、ntrolled Copyright 2008, Ford Global Technologies, LLC Page 2 of 7 Test Method: 3.5.1 Apply two, 5x25x250mm ribbons of sealer equally spaced for balance to two sets of panel: (A) For ESBFM4G176B: On two 305x305x0.75mm phosphated steel panels conforming to ESZM3P32A requirements and primed with ESBFM

    9、64J19C1 electrocoat primer. (see 5.3) Spray with currently released polyester primer surfacer SK-FM6J9556-B, and bake to the minimum bake of 8 minutes at 113 C. Metal Temperature. Cool to 23 C and examine. (B) For ESBFM4G176C: On two 305x305x0.75mm CRLC oily (as used in production) steel panels phos

    10、phated to ESZM3P32A requirements and primed with ESBFM64J19C1-4 electrocoat primer. (see 5.3) bake to the minimum electrocoat bake 5 minutes at 177 C. Metal Temperature. Cool to 23 C and examine. Spray with currently released polyester primer surfacer SK-FM6J9556-B, and bake 8 minutes at 113 C. Meta

    11、l Temperature Note: The above minimum baking schedules simulate minimum metal temperature requirements for production usage. (2) Spray one of each set of panels with currently released ESZM50J109A white enamel. Spray the remaining panel from each set with ESBFM32J105D1/D2 silver basecoat clearcoat.

    12、(3) Cool to 23 +/- -3 C and re-examine for any of the above conditions. Insert the tip of sharp knife under the edge of the ribbon and cut a tab 25-40 mm long. Grasp the tab and attempt to peel at 180 degrees along the 250mm dimension. Observe for any indication that the film fails to adhere, or is

    13、brittle or friable. Note: Save sample for Low Temperature Resistance test per 3.18 3.6 HEAT STABILITY X X There shall be no evidence of blistering, cracking, charring or embrittlement when exposed to high temperatures. Test Method: Proceed as per 3.4, except: (a) Use a primer surfacer bake of 30 min

    14、s at 165 C. Metal Temperature for ESBM4G176B, and (b) use an electrocoat bake of 30 mins at 190 C. Metal Temperature for ESBM4G176C. This simulates production overbake. Note: Save sample for Low Temperature resistance Test per 3.18 3.8 SHEAR ADHESION, min 1.4 Mpa 1.1 MPa (1) Apply a 6mm coating of t

    15、he test material over 25.4mm square area on (A) CRLC oily steel (as used in production) for ESBFM4G176C, and (B) a phosphated and electrocoated panel for ESBFM4G176B. (see 5.3). (2) Place the appropriate like panel over the prepared panels as in (1), and ensure the bonded area equals 25.4mm square.

(A) for ESBFM4G176B 8mins at 113 C. metal Temperature. (B) for ESBFM4G176C 5

    17、 mins. At 177 C. Metal Temperature. (4) Cool the assemblies to 23 +/- 3 C. Before removing the weights. (5) Four (4) hours after removing the weights, determine the shear adhesion in a tensile tester at a rate of 25.4 mm/min. 3.9 STAINING X X There shall be no staining or other deleterious effects o

    18、n light coloured ESZM50J109A enamels or ESBFM32J105D1/D2 basecoat clearcoats, as a result of exposure to dry ultraviolet light. Test Method: Apply a 1.5x25x150mm ribbon of sealer as outlined per 3.4, for 2 panels. After bake, condition for 24 hours at 23 +/- 3 C. Mask on-half of the sealant ribbon a

    19、nd expose one panel for 96 hours in the fluorescent sunlamp cabinet as specified FLTM BV 7-2. Examine the exposed and unexposed portions of the sealant. (Save one panel for weatherability test). 3.10 WEATHERABILITY X X There shall be no staining or deleterious effect on currently released ESZM50J109

    20、A white enamel and ESBFM32J105D1/D2 silver basecoat clearcoat, as a result of weatherometer exposure. Test Method: Expose the seconf panel as prepared in the 3.9 for 250 hours, in an Atlas Weatherometer with a cam cycle of 102-18, as described in FLTM BN 1-1. 3.11 ADHESION TO OILY PANELS N/A X Shall

    21、 not be peeled off in a continuous film at any thickness. Test Method: Apply a material daub (approximately 20g) to each of the two panels (min. and max. bake), and using the thumb, feather material along edges. In a vertical attitude, subject one test panel to the minimum e-coat bake schedule and t

    22、he other to the maximum e-coat bake schedule. See 5.3 Then, expose these panels to the remaining full paint baking system schedule, including one enamel repair bake schedule. Condition panels after baking at 23 +/- 2 C. for 1 h minimum. Evaluate adhesion by cutting a 25mm wide strip across the mater

    23、ial daub. Using the tip of a squared spatula, lift the material at one edge, then attempt to hand peel material at 90 degrees from substrate.     24、ION (unworked) (ASTM D 217, 150 g total load) As received 7-13mm 7-13mm Aged 72 h at 43 C 7-13mm 7-13mm Material must be easily thumbable and capable of filling gaps, without slumping or deteriorating. 3.13 BRIDGING, max 5mm sag 5mm sag Test Method: Provide two 13mm diameter holes in each of two 150

    25、x75mm oily panels. Place sections of putty 25x25x2 to 3mm over each hole and bake horizontally, one panel at minimum bake (see 5.3) Remove from oven and measure sag below the lower surfaces of the panel. 3.14 MULTIPLE BAKES X X The thumbing putty must not (a) for ESBFM4G176B, lose any adhesion, beco

    26、me brittle, expand or contract, when subjected to one primer oven bake, and two enamel oven bakes system, currently used in plant (b) for ESBFM4G176C, lose any adhesion, become brittle, or contract, when subjected to one electrocoat oven bake, followed by one primer oven bake, and two enamel oven ba

    27、kes, (full paint system with at least one enamel repair) currently used in plant. Oily panels, (as used in production) must be used. 3.15 CORROSION RESISTANCE X X (ASTM B 117) No corrosion extending more than 3 mm under edge of sealer Method: (A) For ESBFM4G176B, place 25x25x2 to 3mm putty on oily s

    28、teel panel, and paint with primer surfacer (both min. and max. temp-twp panels required.) and enamel. Cool to room temperature and age panels before subjecting to 240 hours salt spray. See 5.3 (B) For ESBFM4G176C, Place 25x25x2 to 3mm putty on oily steel panel, and paint with total paint system as i

    29、n plant. (min and max bake during electrocoat-two panels required.) Cool to room temperature and age panels before subjecting to 240 hours salt spray. See 5.3 3.16 WASH RESISTANCE N/A X (FLTM BV 16-1, Method A) No wash of permitted 3.17 INVERTED BAKE X X Material shall not fall off or lose any adhes

Invert panels and condi

    31、tion at 23 +/- 2 C. for 15 in. Maintain panels in the inverted position and subject one test panel to the maximum paint system bake schedule with one enamel repair bake. (Exclude electrocoat bake) (C) For ESBFM4G176C, apply a material daub (approximately 20g) to two oily panels (as used in productio

    32、n). Invert panels and condition at 23 +/- 2 C. for 15 min. Maintain panels in the inverted position and subject one test panel to the maximum paint system bake schedule with one enamel repair bake. Save sample for Low Temperature Resistance test, para 3.18. 3.18 LOW TEMPERATURE RESISTANCE X X No cra

    33、cking or adhesion failure Test Method: Expose the panels prepared in 3.5 and 3.6 for 7 days at 70 +/- 1 C. After heat exposure, condition panels at 23 +/- 2 C. for 1 hour minimum until cool. Attach each panel along the bottom adge of a nominal 0.8x300x300mm CRS panel. Place assembled panels in a col

    34、d slam apparatus described in FLTM BV 1-2 cold box and condition at -29 +/- 1 C. for 4 hours. Individually mount panels on the slam apparatus which test material at bottom edge facing away from the fixture and slam 10 times at +29 +/- 1 C. 3.19 ELECTROCOAT COMPATABILITY N/A X (FLTM BV 19-1) Material

    35、 must be compatible 3.20 HARDNESS DUROMETER “D“ 15-40 25-40 (ASTM D 2240) Test Method: Apply enough material into two ointment tin type containers to attain a cured material section approximately 6.4mm thick. Bake one sample at the minimum full paint system bake schedule with one repair bake, and th

    36、e other sample at the maximum full paint system bake schedule with one repair bake. (For ESBFM4G176B omit electrocoat bake) Condition test sample at 23 +/- 2 C. for 4 hours, then check instantaneous material hardness. 3.21 CONTRACTION OR EXPANSION DURING CURE 0% 10-15% Expansion Only Shall not pull

    37、away from sides (or show more than 3mm evidence of overflow, for ESBFM4G176B), after full paint baking system and one enamel repair bake. (Exclude electrocoat bake for ESBFM4G176B) 3.22 QUALITY The material shall be a smooth homogeneous mixture, free from foreign materials and properties detrimental

    38、 to normal production operations. Test Method Dilute a one gram sample sample of the material with

    39、 one gram of M14J167 Special Spirits, and mix thoroughly. Rub a portion of the diluted material 100 times between two pieces of flat, clean plate glass. The appearance of scratches on glass plate shall be considered failure. 3.24 FUNCTIONAL APPROVAL Material being evaluated for initial approval to t

    40、his specification shall be subjected to a production trial. Functional trial results should be available to Design and Material Engineering prior to materials approval and release. 3.25 PRODUCTION MATERIAL STANDARD Production shipments shall be equivalent to approved purchase samples in laboratory a

    41、nd production use. 3.26 SUPPLIER RESPONSIBILITY All material supplied to this specification must be equivalent in all characteristics to the material upon which approval was originally granted. Prior to making any changes in the properties composition construction, colour, processing or labeling of

    42、the material originally approved under this specification, whether or not sucj changes affect the materials ability to meet the specification requirements, the Supplier shall notify Purchasing and Materials Engineering of the proposed changes and obtain the written approval of PEO Materials Engineer

    43、ing. Test data, test samples and a new code identification are to be submitted with the request. Substance restrictions imposed by law, regulations or Ford, apply to the materials addressed by this document. The restrictions are defined in Engineering Material Specification WSS-M99P9999-A1, unless a

    44、 different prefix or suffix is specified on the engineering document for the application. 4. APPROVAL OF MATERIALS Materials defined by this specification must have prior approval by Materials Engineering. Suppliers desiring approval of their materials shall first obtain an expression of interest fr

    45、om Purchasing Design and Material Engineering. Upon request, the Supplier shall submit to Materials Engineering its own laboratory report to the specification (test results, not nominal value), the material designation and code number, and test specimens for Ford evaluation. Upon approval, the mater

    46、ial will be added to the Engineering Materials Approved Source List. 5. TOXICITY-OBJECTIONABLE ODOR The material shall contain no benzol (benzene), chlorinated or other toxic compounds, or hydrolysable chlorine derivatives, nor have an obnoxious or objectionable odor. GENERAL INFORMATION 6.1 STORAGE STABILITY The material shall be stored at room temperature away from all sources of heat and sunlight. Under these conditions, the minimum shelf life shall

Metal Temperature maximum 30 mins. 163 C. Metal Temperature ENAMEL minimum 8 mins. 119 C. Metal Temperature maximum 20 mins. 143 C. Metal Temperature 6.3 OILY METAL SUBSTRATE The tests for ESBF-M4G176-C must be done on oily panels using the same oil as used in production, unless specified otherwise by Materials Engineering.
