    21、ICATION C22.2 No. 1021958 CONSTRUCTION AND TEST Qf. BROODERS AND INCUBATORS SECTION ABROODERS 1. SCOPE 1.1 This Section applies to both portable and stationary electric brooders, for potentials of 250 volts and less, designed to be used in accordance with the rules of Part I of this Code. 1.2 This S

    22、ection applies to electric brooders for use inside buildings on farms and commercial hatcheries. NOTE: Included in the scope are brooders of the hover, battery, and infra-red lamp type. 1.3 This Section does not apply to infra-red heat lamps as lamps. 2. DEFINITIONS 2.1 The following definitions app

    23、ly in this Section: Heater element means a complete or partial assembly of heating element, electrical insulation (e.g. refractory, mica), metal sheath, glass or quartz envelope, thermal insulation, and frame or adaptor for holding the assembly together and fastening it in the equipment; Maximum rat

    24、ed voltage means the maximum voltage that may be encountered in service for the type of supply. For nominal 115-volt and 115/230-volt supplies, the maximum rated voltage shall be con- sidered as 125 volts and 125,/250 volts respectively; Temperature -regulating thermostat means a thermostat which fu

    25、nctions only to regulate the temperature under normal conditions of use and the failure of which would not result in a fire hazard; Temperature- limiting thermostat means a thermostat which functions only under conditions which produce abnormal temperatures and the failure of which might or might no

    26、t result in a fire hazard; Combined temperature -regulating and -limiting thermo- stat means a thermostat which functions to regulate the temperature under normal conditions of use, and also serves to prevent a fire hazard which might result from conditions of abnormal operation of the equipment. NO

    27、TE: The definition of heater element takes precedence over that in the latest issue of CSA Specification G22.2 No. 0, Definitions and General Requirements. 3. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 3.1 General requirements applicable to this Specification are given in the latest issue of Specification C22.2 No. 0, De

    28、finitions and General Requirements. 8 CSA SPECIFICATION C22.2 No. 102 3.2 Reference Specifications. Throughout this Specification refer- ence is made to certain other Specifications which should be consulted. A list of these Specifications appears on Page 5. 4. CONSTRUCTION 4.1 General 4.1.1 Compone

    29、nt parts shall be of types specifically approved for the use intended or shall be investigated as an integral part of, and with brooders. 4.1.2 Thermostats, switches, etc., in addition to conforming to the intent of a particular Specification covering that type of device, shall also be investigated

    30、with respect to their suitability for use in brooders. 4.2 Field Assembly. Brooders which because of their size, or awk- wardness for shipment, are reassembled on installation, shall be so designed that a minimum of reassembly is necessary. Electric parts shall be adequately secured and protected fr

    31、om damage during ship- ment and reassembly. All wiring shall be completed at the factory. (See also Clause 5.4.) 4.3 Enclosures For Live Parts 4.3.1 Electric equipment shall have enclosures of incombustible, absorption-resisting material, which shall enclose all live parts, excluding a supply cord.

    32、4.3.2 Enclosures shall be formed and assembled so that they will: (a) Have the strength and rigidity necessary to resist the abuses to which they may normally be subjected, without increasing the fire or accident hazard due to deformation of the enclosure with resulting reduction of spacings, loosen

    33、ing, or displacement of parts, etc.; (b) Afford protection against accidental contact with bare live parts; and (c) Afford protection for electric components against the de- leterious effects of excessive moisture and droppings. 4.3.3 Enclosures shall be judged with respect to size, shape, thickness

    34、 of material and suitability for the particular application. Enclosure material shall be of such thickness, shape, or so reinforced to give stiffness and protection at least equivalent to that obtained if blank, flat, sheet steel not less than 0.0209 inch (No. 24 MSG) thick is used, except for glass

    35、- or similarly enclosed heating elements (e.g. infra-red lamps) which are acceptable if guarded as required by Clause 4.3.5. NOTE: For motor enclosures see Clause 4.18. 4.3.4 Openings in Enclosures 4.3.4.1 Openings for ventilation or other purposes (e.g. thermometers) shall be constructed, located,

    36、or baffled to prevent a straight rod of circular cross-section and 3 inch in diameter from being inserted to touch live parts. NOTE: For openings in motor exclosures see Clause 4.18. BROODERS AND INCUBATORS 9 4.3.4.2 Wire screens, expanded metal mesh, perforated metal, and metal with other kinds of

    37、openings shall be the subject of special investigation together with methods of fastening them. 4.3.4.3 Unless baffled, there shall be no openings in enclo- sures directly below terminals, switches, glowing-type heating or heater elements, wires, or other live parts. NOTE: Elements shall be consider

    38、ed as glowing if their surface temperature exceeds 280G. 4.3.5 Guards For Heating and Heater Elements 4.3.5.1 Heating and heater elements shall be so guarded that: (a) Persons will be protected from coming in contact with them (see also Clause 4.3.5.2); (b) Combustible material such as paper, sawdus

    39、t, or straw upon which brooders may rest or which may be placed on dropping pans, will be prevented from contacting them; and (c) Combustible material such as paper or sawdust which may be placed on dropping pans will not be directly below them, unless their exposed surface temperature does not exce

    40、ed 280C. 4.3.5.2 Glass-enclosed heating elements (e.g. infra-red lamps) shall be so recessed or otherwise guarded that breakage of the glass envelope is unlikely. NOTE: A simple guard that prevents brooders from resting on the lamp or lamps under any condition of operation or storage, is acceptable.

    41、 The guard may be shipped unattached if the marking of Clause 5.5 is provided. The guard is not required to prevent personal contact. 4.3.5.3 Guards shall be of rigid construction and shall be attached by screws or the equivalent so that they will not be uninten- tionally dislodged. 4.4 Protection A

    42、gainst Rusting and Corrosion 4.4.1 Iron and steel parts shall be suitably protected against rusting and corrosion as required by the latest issue of CSA Specifica- tion C22.2 No. 0, Definitions and General Requirements. 4.4.2 The surface of metal parts shall be protected against scaling, flaking, or

    43、 other effects of corrosive action which might cause subsequent reduction in the dielectric strength of brooders. 4.5 Mechanical Assembly 4.5.1 Parts used in the construction of brooders shall have ade- quate mechanical strength and shall be assembled and secured in position to ensure proper functio

    44、ning under both normal and abnormal conditions that may be met in service. 4.5.2 Thermostats, switches, heater elements, etc., shall be fastened securely and rigidly to maintain the required clearances. A suitable lockwasher, properly applied, is acceptable as a means to prevent turning of a stem-mo

    45、unted control. 10 GSA SPECIFICATION C22.2 No. 102 4.5.3 Screws or other fastenings of fragile insulating parts shall not be so tight as to result in cracking or breaking of such parts due to expansion and contraction, unless the insulating material is completely retained. Generally, such parts shall

    46、 be slightly loose or shall be provided with cushioning material, e.g. asbestos washers. 4.6 Stability. The stability of brooders shall be such that they cannot be readily overturned. 4.7 Supply Connections (Stationary) 4.7.1 Stationary brooders shall have provision for the connection of armoured ca

    47、ble or conduit to the source of supply as required by the latest issue of CSA Specification C22.2 No. 0, Definitions and General Requirements. Terminal boxes may be attached to the outside or built into the brooder. 4.7.2 Knockouts or openings for conduit connection shall be located in essentially f

    48、lat surfaces in order that locknuts, etc., will lie flat. 4.7.3 Knockouts or openings for conduit connection shall have adequate diameters to accommodate the corresponding trade sizes of rigid conduit or flexible conduit, or cable connectors. (See the latest issue of CSA Specification C22.2 No. 0, D

    49、efinitions and General Requirements.) 4.7.4 Electric components shall not be mounted on covers giving access to supply terminals unless the covers are hinged. 4.7.5 The location of terminal boxes or compartments in which supply connections are made shall be such that connections will be readily accessible for inspection after the brooder is installed as intended, but not without opening a cover wh
