It is identical with ISO6743-2:1981 “Lubricants, industrial oils and related products (class L) Classification Part 2: Family F (Spindle bearings, bearings and associated clutches)”, published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). ISO6743-2 was prepared as

、 the result of discussions in Subcommittee4, Classifications and specifications, of Technical Committee28, Petroleum products and lubricants, in which the UK has participated. A general classification of petroleum products prepared in ISO/TC28 has allocated class L to lubricants. Part 0 of this stan

、dard details the subdivision of class L into families of products, to each of which a code letter is allocated. This Part provides a detailed classification within family F of class L. Further Parts of the International Standard will provide a detailed classification within other families of class L

、 and will be published as further Parts of this standard. A classification of machine tool lubricants has been separately published as BS5063 “Classification of rationalized range of lubricants for machine tool applications” and covers grades drawn from ISO3498:1979 “Lubricants for machine tools Cla

、dle bearings, bearings and associated clutches) which belongs to the class L (Lubricants, industrial oils and related products). It should be read in conjunction with ISO6743-0. 2 Reference ISO 3448, Industrial liquid lubricants ISOviscosity classification. 3 Explanation of symbols used 3.1 This det

、ailed classification of family F has been established by defining the categories of products required for the main applications of this family and at the final point for subdivision by referring to composition of corresponding products. 3.2 Each category is designated by a symbol consisting of a gro

、up of letters, which together constitute a code. NOTEThe first letter of the code (F) identifies the family of the product considered but the second letter taken separately has no significance of its own. The designation of each category can be supplemented by the addition of viscosity grades accord

、ing to ISO3448. 3.3 In this classification system, products are designated in a uniform manner. For example, a particular product may be designated in complete form, i.e.ISO-L-FD68, or in an abbreviated form, i.e.L-FD68, the number indicating the viscosity grade according to ISO3448.Classification o
